Is it just me, or are sales slow?

Here in the UK its been very hot outside. A lot of people here might be taking advantage of the weather rather than shopping in SL.

It's summer around your parts, so I guess a lot of the big spenders are spending more and more time outdoors for sun and stuff (summer officially ended where I'm from last June). In fact, a lot of my friends in my friends list (and friends in their friends list) have been in and out of town. I'd expect that something similar is happening everywhere else. Besides other factors like big updates makes most people wary into getting into SL out of fear that something bad might happen (disappearing items and builds to name a few and extreme lag that makes shopping impossible), and are waiting for SL to stabilize before the hop back in. That could be a possibility too. ^_^;

Slow Sales and SL Issues
07-28-2006 04:40
1. Unplayable, laggy environment = high customer dissatisfaction and lower sales 2. Weekly Scheduled Downtime to add more unplayable features = customer dissatisfaction and lower sales. 3. Huge influx of transitory, undocumented members = lower sales. 4. Continued Stipend Reductions = lower sales
It's not rocket science. 96% of dissatisfied and unhappy customers will never tell why "they quit you". The just never come back.
Perhaps a "SL Chamber of Commerce" and/or "SL Economic Council" should be formed and used to approach and deal with LL as an organized group.

From: DolphPun Somme I am curious. My sales have been for compost these last few days. I know updates always do this, but it usually recovers faster.
Anyone else having the same problems? Mine are up, but I think there's a competition at the moment that coincides with a theme I sell.

From: Cow Hand I bet the gun makers are dead in the water right now. Nope, ran to Novum Inc last night because his new shotgun was supposed to be released then, there were about 15-20 people there camping for it too. The problem with you is you don't bother to actually do any study before just firing complete and utter crap out of your mouth. Most of the "good" gunmakers don't rely on push to make their weapons effective. Why? They are designed to do other things thats why. Push is usually tacked on as an afterthought. Why would anyone pay 1k for a harbringer just for its push, when you can run over to yadni's and get the orbit/cager thats so popular for a dollar? People don't buy it for the push, they buy it for the other crazy stuff it does. Spins, physics disruptors, I hear one of the attacks is a kamikaze plane that rez's and smashes into the victim (how amusing!). I don't buy guns for push, I buy guns for shield breaking, accuracy, and functionality. My favorite guns were just recently updated to contain a push, which imho isn't as good as the ones found in a true orbiter. Oh FYI at any given moment there are 3-5 customers wandering around inside Aubretek looking for protec/psitec.

From: DolphPun Somme I am guessing you were being sarcastic , but actually... I agree. Often times in the scripting forums I have been curious as to some of the things that Ye Olden Masters have created. Of course, any of the masters would have picks and all the rest of their profile ducks in a row. However a good secondlife:// url works too. No, I was being serious.. lol I would rather check out the forum people's stuff for sale than some random ones.. I think I just come of sounding sarcastic.. well can't help that

I've noticed a slight drop in sales, but it's about the same as it was last July. I figure people are at the beach instead of in SL. I usually see a similar drop in January - the post-Xmas recovery I assume. The advice about monitoring your sales by location is golden. If you sell from the box or a vendor, all you have to do is put a code in the object name to let you know where the sales came from. For example, Widget5 (C). For me, "C" would stand for Chaos, our main store. It never hurts to keep an eye peeled for the next big thing too. We made a killing on the Tiny Critter craze, just because we recognized they would be wildly popular for a bit and we could turn-around product quickly. (Don't tell anyone, but frankly I was running around in a tiny squirrel av making stuff for myself, which just happened to be salable). Which brings me to my most important point. By all means diversify if you have the time and talents to do so. It will insulate you a bit against bumps in the market. Best of all though, it lets you make more stuff, and more complex stuff for your own use. Which you can then sell if you want to. If you're in SL because you love to create, this will keep your interest and enjoyment high - while helping pay your expenses.

Stunned by "portal shock"
07-28-2006 07:58
Astoundingly bad architecture makes it impossible for many people to shop in certain places. The lastest trend seems to be huge stadiums, single rooms, several stories high, each wall lined with 50 vending machines and 500 different textures. If one wanted to deliberately inflict shoppers with maximum possible lag, one could hardly do better than that. Porting into one of these places will freeze my avatar for several minutes. Even after recovering from this "portal stun", trying to move around will feel like trudging through quicksand.

I've just verified my account and bought a lot of lindens, specifically so I could splurge on clothes, skin, shoes and hair. But I'm finding it incredibly difficult. It is so laggy at the moment, I'm able to fully rezz maybe 1 vendor every 4 mintues or so... it makes browsing through shops unpleasant to say the least. Perhaps the excessive lag is affecting sales?
It seems a lot worse than it was a few days ago...I hope it gets better.
