Is it just me, or are sales slow?

I am curious. My sales have been for compost these last few days. I know updates always do this, but it usually recovers faster.

Anyone else having the same problems?

Speaking from my own experience since the last update, I find shopping almost impossible for one reason.

Images take forever to rez, when they do rez, they just as quickly de-rez.
I've spent 25 mins in small shops waiting for images to rez and have left because it just hasn't happened.

Nope. Sales fine here.

It's probably a mistake to look for trends over a period as short as several days.

My sales have been slightly lower in the last few days, and that's quite normal, it's summer and a quite hot one at that in many parts of the world, many people just go on vacation and spend more time out, meaning less time in SL -> less shopping

Mine have been incredibly slow since the first upgrade of version 1.9 About the time all the money grubbing day tradsers started the thread to kill stipends, and BTW most of the customer base in SL is newbs, who BTW now get no income and ahve no chance of making one.

Don't forget that SL needs to be online and useable for sales to take place.

We have had several long periods of down time recently. That will always hurt sales. Can't buy in-world if you can't log on.

We had a buggy update release, and issues with the asset server. Such conditions really hurt sales, as people are afraid to buy and place new stuff if they think it will vanish because of an asset server glitch.

My own clothing sales are down, but my texture sales are doing fine, as is my building work.

Also, bear in mind that sales in SL tend to be cyclical. Sometimes sales boom for you, and other times you can't seem to pay someone to take your merchandise.

The best protection against sales cycles is to spead out and to diversify. Sell in multiple sims, so people can find your wares easily. This also protects you if one location has server problems, is being griefed, is unaccountably laggy, is being remodeled... Just don't spread out so thin that rent costs consume your profits. Sell multiple and diverse types of stuff, like selling clothes and also selling textures. People might want one, and not the other.

Always monitor your sales by location. Sometimes sales in a certain location just dry up and blow away. If a location has consistently poor sales, perhaps doesn't even cover rent expenses, then look elsewhere for a better sales location.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming.

Also added a signature with links to my SL exchange and my main location.

I have a 'target' sales figure that I like to reach on a daily basis in SL.

The week before the update I hit the target one day out of 7, but was pretty close most days.

Tuesday was almost double my target, Wedenesday (a half day really) was over double my target.

Today seems to be shaping up to be just another average day.

I swear I will never figure out buying trends in this game, it has never made any sense to be, and I doubt that it ever will.

I could throw around all sorts of reasons why sales are up or down or across, but I'd lkely be wrong on all accounts. For me I just total it up at the end of the day, and high or low I always have the same reaction, 'hmmmm'.

Sometimes, if you hold your mouse over an image that should of rezed long enough for a the hover tip to pop up, it will usually rez the image. I once spent 10 or so min waiting for some textures to load, but as soon as I moused over them they would res.

Yups...I been using this trick for ages. Mouse over or even focus your camera on the texture...it will usually place that texture as the next one to load because you focused on it.

As to sales...min have been down now for over a week. But that happens sometimes for no real reason. It could be due to a million and one things. In each case its happened before, it has always rebounded in short order. I refuse to worry about a small dip of a week. If it continues for months I would worry.

Of course i tried that, sadly it didnt help.
Its quite freaky seeing images rez upto 90% then reverse back to 0%

I love "sales" posts.

Hardly anybody ever admits sales are slow. And if they are slower than normal, they are never "worried" about it.

Love SL!

Really? I find that most of the time I have a great day, its because I had a heavy buyer come into the shop.

And on the days sales suck, its because I made no sales.

Maybe I'm just too simple.

DolphPun, why are you selling compost?

Well I said...

My sales have been for compost these last few days.

I am never sure what the rules for cursewords are in each forum I visit (yes there are forums outside of SL) so its just better to censor myself. When I was still addicted to Fairyland, My group leader did everything he could to get me to curse outside of actually attacking me. He swore at a level that could cause drunken sailors to blush.

Oh! Got a sale! But even my SlExchange sales are at a crawl. Heck, I am even thinking of making clothes (glutted market) instead of just my usual scripted gadgets, animated drawings, etc.

Are you nuts?! You never admit ish like that.

Now quick, say something like

-I am not worried about this because I know it will rebound
-Its really hot outside and LA lost power, knocking off a substantial part of my consumer base, which is why my sales are down
-Somebody pirated me
-My sales are actually up 3,000%

I am guessing you were being :rolleyes:sarcastic:rolleyes: , but actually... I agree.

Often times in the scripting forums I have been curious as to some of the things that Ye Olden Masters have created. Of course, any of the masters would have picks and all the rest of their profile ducks in a row. However a good secondlife:// url works too. :)
