Hey

How many SL'ers are from Project Entropia and how many SL'ers are considering moving over to Entropia ??
And, how many are citizens of both SL and Entropia ??
Curious....

Thanks!

Speaking of PE/EU

If there is anyone in SL wanting to trade some L for some PED, or Equipment in PE/EU, please let me know. I have 2 avatars in PE that I am selling off ped and equipment... Please contact me rava@ravetrax.com or via SL "Rava Senoir" for an equipment/clothing/etc.. list.

heh, before sl i read about project ent on /.

i created an account, appear at some base looking place and damn if the controls aren't even more awkward than sl for a newbie. i'm immediately assaulted by some strange oldbie who tells me how basically, while my account was free, there was absolutely nothing i could do in the world without spending some real cash. he then went on to tell me how much he had spent in usd on an ugly pair of boots he was wearing (i think it was something crazy like the price of a r/l pair of shoes).

that guy gave me the creeps, and i couldn't really decide if he was trying to scam me into buying something, or just truly a nutbar...or both? i logged out, uninstalled and never looked back. did i miss something?

@volatile - far as i could tell, it had no "real" player made content. there was a crafting system based on buying ammo/gear with real money, hunting pre-written npc monsters for their bits and selling/crafting them. nowhere near as dynamic as here. more of a game, not at all a platform, and much more money oriented.

I remember joining long ago. Walked around this place that was devoid of life save for two people shooting at each other that totally ignored me. Then I took off trekking across the landscape towards a distant city, passing hundreds of little stakes in the ground marking mines or something, then entered this huge city where like 2 other people were and explored it for about 15 min, talking with the other guy occassionally who was as confused as me. Got bored, logged out, and uninstalled.

Isnt Entropia the Second Law of thermodynamics?

Something to do with being disolute and more and more lethargic until you just stop moving all together, I think.
It all comes out in the wash. The silver death of the universe.

I got pretty hardcore in PE for about a year, but the expense became higher and higher with each vu release,

I primarily hunted antrax and was spending putting in up to 50 dollars a day in ammo alone, then mining another 50 dollars once a week, sure i didnt lose it all but generally you lost each day apart from the odd global drop or hof,

Sold out of it now, sold all my equipment and my nemesis armour *cries nooooo its gone* for a total of 300 us dollars and went out and got seriously drunk :)

To the best of my understanding, take SL, distill out the shameless moneymaking gimmick, build a game that's mostly a casino disguised as a scifi game -- and that's Entropia.

Or so I've been told. :D

I tried Entropia, but the idea of collecting sweat from animals didn't appeal to me. Also it was rather baren and didn't look that nice and I don't like not being able to do business with NPCs in games like that (it's an all-player based economy).

I liked Anarchy Online better as a cyberpunk MMORPG. Theres also EVE which was pretty decent.

i heard about eve while playing earth and beyond, so i went and checked it out in beta. i quit after orbiting an asteroid mining it for something like 2 hours. i think the best description i've ever heard of Eve was "the prettiest interactive screensaver ever".

The Difference between SL and PE/EU :

PE/EU has
-no free items except a ugly orange jumpsuit
-good weapons and armor for PVP, they cost only a few 1000 US$ ;-)
-crafting machines to create items (not your own design), get ready to spend/waste
tons of money (and time) on resources, blueprints...
-no boring casinos, just go hunting and waste your money on lots of ammo and decay

is it a Rip off /money drain ?
its like real life, but even more cruel

I play Entropia as Yiffy Wolfee Yaffle, a sergeant in the N.B.K Army. :)
I just started playing it last week. I might move to it if SL gets any worse then it is now.

Must have been when it was in beta hehe. Now you start out in a busy place called port atlantis (surrounded by players trying to sell stuff and spamming the chat). if you try to leave the city unarmed you risk being killed by a dinosaur.

I loved AO back in the days before the guard killing PvP penalty thing. It used to be so nice. Now if you go into any city you run into people who killed a guard on purpose just to flag them PvP and they spam everyone with particles and bullet noises. THATS WHAT THE ARENA IS FOR! They need to take the trash fighting to where it belongs and not in the middle of town. :/ it takes away the quality of the game. But in the past i loved AO and i even met my first boyfriend there.

PE = pu?

Shortly after I joined SL, while waiting for a wednesday update
to complete I started DL'ing the PE client.
While waiting for the startling 500MB of data for their client to
dl I found a forum and started reading a whole mess of
primarily negative reviews. After absorbing frequently used
adjectives such as mean, tedious, and money drain I cancelled my DL and never even tried it.

Sounds like another game overrun by 15-yr-old boys with bang-bang items. Just like SL is getting to be... <sigh>

Seconded.

It was mildly diverting and the graphics and scenery shows what a difference professionally made content can make. However, the economy is exactly like that of a casino, with about 90% of what you put in the slot coming back to you. In the gameplay aspects it is one of the 10 species of games out there: level up, get more stuff, kill bigger things, lather, rinse, repeat.

As was noted above, its user interface makes SL look good (which is a compliment to neither). It certainly doesn't allow user created content, but neither does it suffer the terminal greyness of SL. It does as well as SL in the chatroom department but so do AIM, Gtalk, etc.

The big difference in my mind is that it was designed from the start (or at least from EU times) to be profitable for MindArk, something that LL has yet to master.

It isn't my cup of tea, but I bore pretty easily in ladder-based FPS games.

Oh heres the wiki page on entropia. it explains quite a lot. even that microsoft tried to sue them a few years ago for using unlicensed software LOL! But they survived so they must be doing great. :)
