We can hope and pray, Suzzanne.
And lets see a little HTML in profiles as well!

Have they actually specified how this is going to work? Were they going to do it by parcel or limited to a certain number of prims client side (If so how would it decide which one you want to use?)?

Doubtful. Your SL client will be pulling the webpage from the Internet, I doubt very much, if anything, will go through the SL servers.

Precisely. Being client-side means that the web page on that prim you're looking at will not necessarily be the same as the person standing beside you.

It'll be strange to watch people clicking links on web prims and nothing changes (because you don't see their browsing behavior.. only your own).

Hmm, I seem to remember reading that they were making an option to make a webpage serverside if needed, to ensure everyone sees the same page.

Well then that's going to get confusing, if anyone can come up to a terminal you're using and just click away at the screen you're trying to use.

What a cool griefing method if not implemented correctly.

I've suggested a while back to LL that it could start bundling web space in with premium membership.

Good call on the "if not implemented correctly" bit.. Thats the kind of thing I miss out and get lynched for..

Hi, Hiro. :)

I'm a bit fuzzy on the HTML on a prim method this seems to employ. So this would be a fully functional browser? If so, then this could be rather helpful in a LOT of ways, especially if it supported PHP(One of my other favorites. :D).

It would be very helpful to have it communicate with SL using commandline options into a PHP script's address line. Great way to dump data into a MySQL database.

Might finally be able to get a product registration service put together for my customers. :)

Hrm. Scary thought that I don't want to elaborate on because of the script kiddies out there, but I wonder what kind of checks are in place to prevent using this for a DOS attack. Hopefully the Lindens thought about it. Either way, I'm stoked. :)

go ahead and say it. I doubt you hold some highly gaureded knowledge that hasn't been gone over by hundreds of others here thousands of times. no offense...but seriously :P

That's really nice, it's going to give us much more power in extending SecondLife and integrating it with the rest of the Internet.

What we need to make html-on-a-prim really useful is a way to share SecondLife's identity with 3rd party sites. It should be relatively easy to do for LindenLab:
  1. Write a few webpages to support the OpenID protocol, it's really simple just a few HTTP calls
  2. automatically set the correct cookies to authenticate with the SecondLife's website from the html-on-a-prim browser - something which is a good idea on its own
  3. There is no step 3

Alright.

My concern is the script kiddies with the self-replicating physical prims. Now imagine if you had self-replicating physical prims that ALL opened up a web page. The same web page. Each person who sees these would create a new connection to the same site. Thousands of thousands of hits per second. DOS attack in the extreme along with a grid attack.

I suppose one protection method could be to set only a limited number of connections per client.

Or make it so you cannot view the same page twice.
