I am making a model when the fault protection's general
The inventory, takes it's time to load and it will cache so slow
Textures aren't loading and I quote "we'll fix in 2 point oh"
And z-plane bugs with peeking grass should render in more logical.

I very well aquatinted to with the hardware that is graphical.
I understand that LOD should make my speed more radical
The new view distance coming soon I'm teaming with a lot of news.
With each feature I'd like more speed, but focus more on what we lose.

You see in matters graphical and logical and whimsical,
I always lose my objects when the fault protection's general.

Bravo! *applaudes*

:D

My main beefs right now are: LOD and building bugs. Let spheres be spherical and circles circular, not hexagonical... or whatever.

One does get that impression when watching dogs sleep, but it's kind of hard to tell.

What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life?

- Griefers

I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change?

- None. I know there has been an increase in griefing but save for one push bomb (that was inert because my land is no-script) all my grief incidents came from people who either were registered with the old system, or were premium members. As such, the reg system had nothing to do with my plight.

Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ?

- None really. But I do feel bad about the sandbox clogging with hugeass builds issue. Until I got my own land that was a major pain for me. This problem existed prior to the reg changes at that! By 3:15 SLT I see massive towers erected. They certainly weren't designing because they were PREFAB towers.

What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better?

- People who gave a damn and looked at a bigger picture would help. This is out of LL's scope of responsibilities, and really too much to ask for. ... it's like "World Peace."

Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do?

- Just that it's slow sometimes, but that is largely an expected technological limitation.

Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life
experience?

- I'm sure there is, but I can't think of it right now. So for now I'll say it's workable for me.

Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion?

- Only not providing anti-griefing tools before making the no-validation reg system.

What would you suggest to improve that?

- Water under the bridge. Just give us the anti-griefing tools.

Anything else that just gets your goat?

1. Whiners who don't bother to investigate before complaining, greedy and selfish people whose care stops at the tips of their noses. Unfortunately it's nothing LL can do anything about because the problem is that of society in general. @Anisa, that spiral you mention reflects the world. World society is on that spiral.

2. Another issue that LL might be able to address is sandbox clogging. We really need a means of keeping the sandboxes viable.

I feel especially strong about this because I'm a builder and scripter and when I had no space of my own yet, the sandbox was all I could call home. I always made it a point to delete my stuff after I'm done but there are these uncaring people, most of whom were not newbies, who would clog the sandbox with builds with prims measuring in the thousands, and not taking the time to remove them before they leave. Granted some of them look really good, but the sandbox dies because of it.

Perhaps LL can declare no-limit sandboxes for premium account holders to test their large builds (and it's up to them to deal with the crowding) and give per-person prim limits (e.g. 260 prims) on the more common sandboxes so that they remain viable to everyone (premium and basic) who don't want to have to deal with oversized monstrosities of lag and landstuffing. Note: 260 is not arbitrtary. It's the maximum for a single attachment with a few prims allowance for support objects. Before anyone thinks that this proposal discriminates against basic, wrong. Had I still been basic something like this would have worked well for me.

  1. What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life? .... The lack of challenging monsters for parties with an average level of 25+
  2. I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change? ...... The slew of new accounts and alts has led to overcrowding in the lower level dungeons, and simple tasks such as prim mining have become ridiculously competetive
  3. Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ? ......... The alignment system is too lax..... I saw a neutral good cleric attack a group of chaotic good Furry rangers last night, this is a typical example.
  4. What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better? ........... a +10 ring of fetedness
  5. Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do? ...... the glitch where the boss monsters i believe they are usually called something Linden, are immune to most attacks.
How will i ever clear aherne, and get the experience bonus, if there is a "Linden" there that is unbeatable
  6. Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life experience? The combat system should be turn based.
  7. Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion? The current spell system is clunky, and too slow to use.
  8. What would you suggest to improve that? A gesture based spell system might work.
  9. Anything else that just gets your goat? ... my goat was stolen last night, by a party of orcs I think.

Hi Baba :)

What's Wrong with Second Life?

Well (even though this might take awhile) Click Here and start reading all the way up to the present.

See, I tried to make a Second Life for myself. I wouldnt ever trade my experiences both good and bad for anything.

But soon the bad outweighed the good and it was time to look out for number 1 and find my happiness elsewhere.

Its not one single thing, its not a list of things.

Perhaps the easiest way to explain it is - a camel.

Happily minding its own business, and then a straw falls from out of nowhere and lands on its back.

No big deal really.

The camel might be able to continue on doing its thing, as more and more straws fall and land on its back.

It cheerfully keeps trying to live its life as it always had, despite the ever increasing weight.

and then one day

a straw floats down and lands....

and...

SNAP!

breaks the camels back and thats all she wrote.

So... just maybe you'll be able to fully understand what's wrong with Second Life through the eyes of one avatar... or maybe you won't.

Somebody mentioned talking to a brick wall. Maybe you CAN make a difference once you garner the knowlege you need. After all you ARE an Oldbie.

But either way, its too late for me.

My issues are:

1. buggy transparent surfaces - surfaces with transparency render in the wrong order from certain points of view - very annoying when trying to keep prim usage down.

2. the inability to appear offline

3. tier fees are charged as a fixed rate per tier - I think landowners should be taxed according to prim usage - this would reduce trashy prim clutter because it wouldn't be worth while for people to leave their garbage lying about; it would reduce server load due to lower prim usage; it would make land ownership more accessible to those who are afraid of tier prices;

NOTHING is wrong with SL. Something is wrong with its userbase.

People come on here and post something that's drama provoking and there are 1000 replies in 30 mins.

Someone comes on here and posts a positive, constructive idea and asks for volunteers, and his post falls of the first page within 30 mins and gets 0 replies in 3 days.

We all need positivity/constructivity shots pronto. Our culture here is starting to suck.

thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU for a positive post in the General forum. I have found a lot of beauty in SL - and sooooo much darkness and decay in the forums. I hope not a lot of newbs like myself come here, as they would be turned off of second life in a heartbeat.

That's what happens when people come here lured by the thought of "making easy money".

It's almost got to the point now where I'm not bothering to do much in-game because hardly anyone comes to events where the only thing on offer is entertainment, and they actually seem shocked that you don't have money balls, camping chairs and slot machines.

Sadly that is so true. I was disheartened to see Coco's thread about the positive side of recent changes sink almost without a trace. She made some excellent observations, and barely a handul of people responded. A negative thread will draw a huge response. Why, I don't really know. There is a lot to be positive about here.

Just for your personal information, I believe this is not exclusive to SL. It is common to many games also, but many professionally-developed games work around it, so it's not noticable. I don't think it's an SL bug, as such. Just something I read somewhere.

Q: What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life?

If I make a part for someone to use in their product... I don't want their customers mass-producing my 'limited-use license' parts for resale. But I can't let someone resell my parts without making them Mod/trans/copy... and trusting them not to let them slip into the public domain. Without enforceable limited use licenses it's just insanely frustrating.

Q: I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change?

No noticible increase in griefing. I say leave the doors open. I read somewhere that credit cards are pushing back on using their service as a no-charge 'age check' anyway.

Q: Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ?
From: Travis Lambert

A: The inability to login silently and get some work done when I need to.

A: The inability to login silently and get some work done when I need to.

It needed emphasis. :)

Q: What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better?

In-world EMAIL. Persistant IM windows. I can no longer log in over breakfast because trying to get through all my IM's before more flood in makes me late for work.

Q: Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do?

Phantom Flexi Prims MUST be usable on physical objects. Must be a bug that they aren't. Gotta be. Right? *sigh* Okay maybe not, but it'd be really cool.

Q: Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life
experience?

*PLEASE* let me remap my navigation keys. Please please please.

Q: Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion?

Getting rid of the scoring charts. It's a silly thing honestly, flawed in many ways, but they were fun and I miss them.

Q: What would you suggest to improve that?

Now that ratings bonuses are gone.... bring back the high scores charts. ;)

Q: Anything else that just gets your goat?

I work large sometimes. Not being able to zoom out further, or grab objects that are further away bugs me. Working with models and then scaling them up is too dicey and unreliable, many linked prims sometimes shift about strangely when scaled up.[/QUOTE]

Thanks to all those who replied so far ;0... It's good to hear about other issues other than what is the prime drama of the week.
