I'm not making this thread to bash Second Life, or complain about my problems. I <3 SL!! I would like to compile a list of all the top issues facing Second Life right now. I would like to hear from everyone. - What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life?
- I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change?
- Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ?
- What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better?
- Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do?
- Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life
experience?
- Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion?
- What would you suggest to improve that?
- Anything else that just gets your goat?
Answer all or none.. Any comment is welcome. With multiple direct questions, maybe we can get a good cross section of different issues that affect the user experience; rather than going on for 30 pages on a single issue.

From: Vares Solvang I love Sl.
People need to stop being whinny cry babies and learn how to deal. That doesn't help anyone learn what the problems are.. Second Life is in constant development, and without feedback Linden Lab cannot focus on the most important issues to the community. Nobody should have deal with it. They should attempt to shed light on the issue and get it addressed.

What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life? Gray texture placeholders with white outlines that persist and persist and persist and persist. And then persist some more. And then more.
I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change? None really.
Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ? Having to slide the cursor to the ruler in order to use the grid snap in a free-form manner took the fun out of building anything with multiple regularly spaced objects.
What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better? Faster texture loading and let Tiger Crossing design the interface.
Is there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do? I'm sure if I built more the various problems with the building and texturing system would drive me nuts. Like the vanishing objects, textures that won't apply to prims properly, changing numeric values in fields like the texture repeat. Scripting wise, the problem of saving a script and even running the saved script and then having it revert to an earlier version is extremely annoying.
Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life experience? Full access to the mouse and keyboard, numeric and text entry in the dialogs, and other input widgets like dials, sliders, drop down and popup lists. Advance the use of the mozilla browser. Give us the ability to put text on a prim, text that is in a script; this doesn't need to be fancy, just good enough to label buttons instead of having to torture llSetText into the task or uploading bitmaps of text.
Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion? They haven't hired Tiger Crossing to design the interface.
What would you suggest to improve that? Hire Tiger.
Anything else that just gets your goat? Having the same bugs that were around two and a half years ago, like not displaying all the avatars in a group of ten or twenty people. The LOD on terrain makes the land look like it's writhing.

From: Einsman Schlegel What does it matter? The Lindens don't listen. It's like talking to a brick wall. Don't give in to apathy. If approach them in the right way you can get results. We have to know the issues first. Everyone becomes focused on that one big issue, which is registration at the moment, and I think the other issues get lost in the commotion. I think if we ask ourselves about specific aspects of Second Life and what is not working how we would like or expect, we can get a better idea of what needs to change.

Thanks Suezanne.. I think this is a great idea It's interesting that you said you've experienced no new problems since the registration change.. Do you think this is as big an issue as it's been made out to be recently, or are you just lucky? It seems like most of the issues you have are related to the interface.. Do you think many people feel the same way you do about the interface? Eh, sorry for being all questions here folks, this is a bit of an informal survey ;0

What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life?
-I am currently concerned that the new registration changes will not only allow more griefers in,but as a side-effect change the SL community to a more hostile & suspicious one, treating newcomers like they were griefers ready to hatch. There are genuine new players out there; do not judge a new player until they have acted.
I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change?
-I haven't been around long enough to judge changes before & after the change, but I get the general impression SL is currently fighting a 'war on terror' against the griefers and such. And that griefing is becoming a bigger problem?
Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ?
-Not at the moment; not been bothered by anything at this time.
What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better? -Cannot say at this time. Perhaps for a definitive and re-assuring response from LL; it would 'appear' they are ignoring the cries? Or at least looking onwards,or perhaps seeking faith that this'll blow over?
Is there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do?
-None at the moment.
Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life experience?
-None that I can think of.
Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion? -The negative tone of the forums speaks some volumes as of late. The forums arent everything but they are SOMETHING.
What would you suggest to improve that?
-If LL are listening, they'll know what to do. At least they seem to care about 'helpful interaction'; so far for me on a basic level anyway.
Anything else that just gets your goat?
-Not at the moment.

My MAJOR and only issue is that LL does not listen to its clients needs, does not operate like a professional business with integrity, and is full of hypocracy

1) The thing I most dislike about SL is the downward-spiraling social situation of SL. As others have mentioned, griefers have always been a problem, but nowadays, virtually anywhere public you go, there is a very high chance of being attacked by one. And forget public sandboxes, I don't even bother to go to them anymore, you go to one for a decent length of time, you or someone else in the sandbox will be attacked. That of course is the largest issue, but seeming to grow hand in hand with the griefer problem is the attitudes of its residents. Common courtousy seems to be a forgoten concept. People's eyes are all turned inwards, or at least not outwards, and don't really give a damn about anyone but themselves. There is no moment people take to think about how their actions will affect others or even how their inaction will. This topic could also bring me on to the underhanded business practices that been cropping up recently, but I'm not gonna take the space to write out that. I know the social problem with SL is something that is pretty much impossible for LL to control, but some kind of policing of it would help, when it comes to residents taking advantage of other residents, in any case; the current abuse report system is either just not working, or not recieving enough attention, I think that there really needs to be humans out there monitoring these happenings, kinda like "GMs" from any other mmo. But anyways, onto next question. 2. I don't know much what to say about the new registration system. I personaly haven't seen any negatives from it yet, but I do think that maybe it's too drastic a step for LL. Perhaps I'm not understanding it completely, but isn't one of the main reasons for the checks in the old registration system to keep minors out of the adult grid? Now literally anyone can hop on the main grid, whether they should be there or not. 3. As for most people, one of the worst problems we daily have is for textures to rez/bake or even appear at all. 4. I think SL most needs some form of its own "internet". Anyone who's ever played EVE Online knows what I mean. Some sort of central database for news, market, locations, etc that puts all of SL's information in one place that you can browse from anywhere. We've seen forms of this being created, www.slexchange.com and www.slboutique.com are good examples of a centralized market, for example. Because really, sometimes its really darn hard to find what you are looking for in SL. Its not something critical, but I think we'd all get alot more out of SL if it existed. 5. Another problem, which is pretty crippling for builders, is the instability of the region servers, most importantly, how they seem to drop information or not store it fast enough. One thing you learn early on to do as a builder is to carefully watch you numbers as you move prims around, especially when shift-copying, as you'll often find that they end up slightly off the position that you placed them. For example, most of the time when you shift-copy a prim or link, you'll find that the copy it leaves is slightly of the position you placed it. It can be extremely annoying in complex and precise builds. Related to this is some of the script problems, i.e. lost changes to a script, and sim crashes when a script seems to fail even though there is nothing wrong with the writing of the script. 6. My number one issue with interface is our communications, how we communicate with other people. There should be multiple channels, not just the chat channel, that can be handled as the open chat channel is. Also, and this is a big one, we should be able to turn on or off those channels at will. For example, area chat, private channel, group chat, and custom chat channels that can only be joined by those knowing the name and optionally password of the channel. And again I stress that we should be able to turn these on and off (or close them) as we choose. Related to this, is the fact that we should be able to "appear offline" which would hide us from contact lists and the map (or at least when on land we own). 7. As far as Linden Labs goes, I dunno... it just seems sometimes like they are present in areas they don't need to be, and absent from places they really should be. 8. Definently more better communications with their residents, or maybe a little more disclosure as to "what's up", but that's really up to them and how they want to run their business. 9. Last would just be the little things that never recieve attention and really should. Small things like how llLookAt() has been broken for just about forever, even though making an avatar turn towards something can't possibly be rocket science. Also constantly hearing about improvements to the physics engine and never actually seeing them is kinda maddening.

Actually, I do have one major complaint. Prim limits are too low. Seriously, I own space in one of the city sims, and even with its 2x normal prim allowance I find myself running out of my prim allotment way too quickly. I don't think I'm doing anything particularly extravagant...I'm just trying to create an interesting, urban-style installation that fits in comfortably with the "physical" space I own.
Obviously I'm not taking technical constraints into account here...I just feel the prim allowance/square meter ratio is off, which limits certain kinds of creativity.

Q. What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life? For some reason when I alt-click an object to centre the camera on it, I get gaping lag bubbles. Q. I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change? I forgot the password of about 90 of my alts. Just kidding. I have noticed mostly a huge increase in people that click the 'call volunteer' buttons in HI and when I arrive, they never say anything, walk away, or log out. IS IT MY BREATH?? Q. Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ? Textures on older avatars that take 6 hours to appear. Not being able to preload an animation/sound in a gesture so that animations and sounds in a gesture can be synchronized (THIS WOULD ROCK!!!!). Q. What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better? Better privacy. I'm SHY when it comes to building time. Q. Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do? The new lighting system causes "glare" from light sources that cause the area to flicker when rotating the camera. It acts sort of like a lens flare, and it causes headaches. I'd love to be able to turn them off, but it doesn't work. Makes it difficult to build for more than a half hour at a time between breaks. Q. Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life experience? I wish AFK mode wouldn't be cancelled by a microscopic touch of the mouse. I can never stay afk as my optical mouse 'drifts' a pixel every few seconds and cancels it. Q. Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion? Unverified registrations worry me a lot. I hope they get this new system in real quick. Q. What would you suggest to improve that? Repeat of last sentance. Q. Anything else that just gets your goat? Having to use Invisiprims. I want alpha support in skins for my birds! ^^

Q: What is your Number 1 issue with Second Life?A: The inability to effectively delegate or share: Be that land tools, building permissions, inventory, or refilling my kibble dish. Q: I know a number of people are upset by the new registration system. What new problems have you experienced since this change? A: The Shelter has been a zoo as a result of the new registration system. At times we're barely coping with the load. And of course, incidents of griefing are now a lot more frequent for us. Q: Is there any other major issues you face from day to day ? A: The inability to login silently and get some work done when I need to. A: Being a PG place in a Mature Sim. I wish every day that it were possible to 'lower' the rating on a parcel level to PG or even G. Yes, we could move, but we're not going to. This choice means endless explainations on why its not okay to be 'nakie' at the Shelter, even though the land says Mature Q: What is the thing you need the most from Second Life for your experience to be better? A: Delegatable land tools that allow me to prevent the most common forms of grief from occuring on my parcel. Q: Are there a major bug that stops you for doing what you would like to do?A: I'm sure its classified as "Working as designed" - but the fact that "No Build" and "Disable Outside Scripts" affects group associated objects is a serious rock in my shoe. Q: Is there something lacking from the interface that could better your Second Life experience?A: The new registration system has brought in a lot of new international folks who don't (or prefer not to) speak English. I can't help but feel like I'm not able to reach these folks, and make them feel as welcome as well as I'd like. In light of this, I wish we had some way to offer limited in-line machine translation for chat. Without this, I feel like non-English speaking folks are destined to isolate & form their own separate communities. Q: Is there something Linden Lab has done wrong in your opinion? A: With 20/20 hindsight, I think we would have been better off if we got our tools first, and the open registration second. Q: What would you suggest to improve that?A: Pause the open registration system. Once the new tools are implemented, open registration is the 'reward'. Q: Anything else that just gets your goat?A: The immaturity of the chat infrastructure in SL. I wish we had chat invisibility, along with an arbritrary chat distance, and an arbritrary chat color settable within LSL. Speaking events in SL would be much easier to follow if the audience spoke in White, the main speaker in Green, and panel speakers in Blue. I can dream, can't I?

So far, it seems like privacy and chat improvements are the most common things the people who responded here want.
Some people are finding texture load times annoying.
There is a griefing problem and we need tools to combat it, but it's not necesarily related to the open registration; although it does contribute.
A number of minor bugs or issues such as AFK mode sensitivity and grid snaps.
Keep it coming ;0
