From: Jeffrey Gomez At the end of the day, though, these mechanisms are for the paranoid (as Jarod put it) and fall into the realm of common sense. The best business model is to simply continue to make a better product. Some people have product lines that represent hundreds of hours of work. If some unscrupulous jackass comes along and decides to open source all of it "oh well, just make new stuff" doesn't exactly cut it.

There isn't any DRM scheme in use today I know of that hasn't been riddled with holes since it's earliest inception. The actual protection they provide is minimal - even their own creators admit it mostly only provides a percieved sense of security, not actual security itself. I do agree it sucks. But I don't see what's really going to change in the near future even still.

As a person who has made some textures and artwork available, I am appalled that a tool exists to exploit and steal these textures.
NOTHING short of getting rid of such a tool, using any legal means possible, will satisfy me.
So if LL will only tag texture creation times and take even longer to handle stolen texture abuse reports, perhaps I should call my lawyer and threaten to sue the makers of GLIntercept if they do not take the program down. Just like music publishers can sue torrent sites for allowing their servers to copy copyrighted content.

From: Bertha Horton NOTHING short of getting rid of such a tool, using any legal means possible, will satisfy me. It will never happen. The tools are perfectly legal, and effectivly impossible to block. That's the bitter pill of DRM... Anything in digital format can be copied.

I agree, though we can at least make exploits more difficult for the script kiddies to find and take advantage of. The vast majority of users wouldn't know the exploits in the first place which is why I believe LL should adopt a zero tolerance policy towards promotion on LL's private forums of tools to circumvent what little protection we have, and why Jarod's thoughtlessness so completely pisses me off.

After making sense of what is being discussed in this thread, the OP posted links leading to previously closed threads ... which is by definition Reposting. So from this action and the purpose of this current thread which falls under Flaming, Spamming, Trolling (inciting illegal activity) I'm going to close it. And then in review, bring up the OP's signature which is also against Forum Policies. Reposting – If a moderator removes your post, do not repost it elsewhere. Do not repost threads that have been locked or deleted and do not repost content that has been edited or deleted by a moderator. Furthermore, please do not post a "why did my post get removed" post. Send any further discussion regarding post removals to abuse@lindenlab.com.
Flaming, Spamming, Trolling – Flaming (posting a message that is intended to incite anger or directly attack a person or persons), Spamming (multiple posts of the same topic or discussion), and Trolling (a post with an intentionally contrary opinion written with the intent of inciting or getting argumentative opinions) are strongly discouraged. If you think your post might be over-reactive, or that it might fall into one of these definitions, please reconsider posting.
