Since the new rules came in about not needing a credit card to verify avatars i hvae seen 12 newbies who have confessed to being from the ages of 12 - 17. Without sounding like an activist, but i am refusing to report them for the simple fact that its Linden Lab's fault that there is an influx of underagers for allowing it. Did they need to make up more numbers to fill a quota so they decided to let any age people in??
these kids have no linden and cant buy any because there lack of identification for a paypal account and to actually own a credit card and basically are just littering up the grid with there teenage drama of "who has the hots for who" and " why (insert avatar name here) is a total loser because she hangs with (insert another avatar name here)
alo with them getting there free stippends (not that i am opposed to them) but with current influx of underagers there are gonna be loads more getting them, thus effecting the Second Life economy and making the linden dollar practically useless and i for one am refusing to buy Ashne dollars!!!! (see land and economy post about ashne chung inventing her own money!!)
Sorry Lindens but you got this one wrong and need to fix it
anyone agree

They don't get any stipends. Basic stipends were removed when the no-verification registration was made. No starting L$, no stipend.

okay so that buggers up my argument for the economy etc, but still the drama is still there and the fact that underagers are gonna have to work in strip clubs (lets face it if they cant build its the best way to make money) to be leered at by older men, frankly disgusts me.
I am looking out for there insterests as well
did no one think of any consequences when this was decided

I don't know if you can complain much if you personally have knowledge of grid minors and don't do anything about it. At least the Lindens do say upfront you gotta be 18+. As to these people behaviour, I've seen all that and more by adults, that particular behaviour isn't necessarily indicitive of underage people. Either you are part of the problem, or part of the solution. If you don't like it then you have been provided avenue's to take care of the issue, basically you are whining. How immature.

Why should i have to be the one to fix it when it wasnt my mistake in the first place. it was sheer irrisponsability from Linden Labs. and passing the book onto the residents and attempting it to make it our responsability isnt really a great way to validate and keep there terms and conditions acceptable to there insurance company!.
And i do inform the guests to my island that they have to be 18 to play this game and without being a snob, i dont have anything to do with them
It isnt immature not to take on responsability for approximatly 309,000 residents when people are paid to do this (except you voulenteers you rock, thanks for giving up your time)

LindenLab did their part by asking everyone on the way in to state their age. LindenLab did their part by setting up an avenue for people to report one another when there is a problem. LindenLab will move anyone underage to the TG when they have proof of someone being being underage. If I am wrong in any of those statements please let me know. I just signed up for an account and they did indeed inform me that I had to be 18 to play and also asked me my age. Are you going to kick that poor horse over CC verification is good as age verification? Or try to say somehow there were no underage people here before 6/6 ? c'mon...get real. First it's been being argued to the death here for weeks, you bring up nothing new to the argument. Second you state you are unwilling to take action on the problem you are complaining about, if you have a problem and don't tell anyone who is giving you the problem how in the world do you expect the other part to help you get rid of your problem? Not all new users are underage and until someone proves otherwise they are all legal adults. If you are withholding evidence, then you are an accessory to facillitating underage people on the Adult grid.

From the legal standpoint Summer hits the nail on the head.
Without biometrics, there exist no method anywhere to positively discern the age of a computer user. There were underagers even when there was verification.
Linden Lab has excercised due diligence by asking for a birth date and by categorically stating that anyone found to be a minor will be transferred to the Teen Grid. It's also covered in the TOS that one has to agree to before playing that your information has to be truthful.
If a minor is discovered on the main grid all LL has to do is show the reg info which will show that the minor lied. The digital signing of the TOS will bolster LL's case.
Now how do we actually get rid of the minors? Reporting. That's all that's possible. LL has to find them, or we do. That's the hard part, they have to be found.
The more we help, the better it gets. LL can't be everywhere all the time, but with residents on the beat, we cover much much more ground.

i do agree LL should do more than it did when it came up with the open registration. we saw far far fewer minors before it. however, hopefully there'll be some reasonable compromises. the hash reg looks like a decent way to keep them out once caught at least. they can't just hop back in.
anyone who truly cares about what these kids are exposed to needs to report them, not just bitch about it. feel free to bitch, everyone else seems to be doing it, but at least act. as i believe was already said, the way of removing minors that do slip thru hasn't changed. it's always been by reporting. the fact there are more to report just makes it more important.

If i wanted to be a voulenteer i would have signed up to be one. but with family life and a mini-sl business to run, do you think that any of us have time to go underage newbie chasing.
Not all new users are underage and until someone proves otherwise they are all legal adults. If you are withholding evidence, then you are an accessory to facillitating underage people on the Adult grid.
First off i didnt say that all new users were underage, i simply said that since the introducion there has been an influx of under agers. I am not withholding evidence as i simply told these people on my island to move away and to register with teen second life. without taking note of there name. accessory to facilitating, what is this CSI: Second Life. But alas the whole point that is being missed is that with no money and no way to buy any, there is a reisk that these under agers will ahve to get jobs in seedier parts of second life. Some of these places even provide avatar fixing up to make sure they are workable with there theme". I am more concerned about the position that these kids dont realise that they are putting themselves in by working in these places with god knows who behind a leering avatar. I myself when i first joined Second Life was a dancer in such establishments, and being 24, realised the ramifications that i placed myself in and realised and accepted that the only way to make money was to do this vocation just to get started. Some of these are children being placed in adult situations because they dont realise sometimes just to get money. Of course they are gonna be crafty, at least the ones i bumped into were slightly too gulible to tell there secret of there age, but there are those who will be harder to find. all because of this verification process. Some people are good at seprating there second life from first life, some simply arnt I appreciate and acknowledge that it is a good thing as some people dont have credit cards and/or paypal accounts and make the whole experieicece an easier way to enjoy the game and get on board quicker, but at the risk of sounding like Helen Lovejoy of "the simpsons" wnot someone think of the children.

I would simply report them, and never tire of it. All we're doing is just sending them to the Teen Grid.
Thing is, I don't encounter them. I spend I think 95% of my time at my homestead which is rather far away from where all the action is ... but won't be when the new welcome area (which is practically next-door) opens.

From: Kat Sullivan Sorry Lindens but you got this one wrong and need to fix it
anyone agree
Absolutely I agree..... but what's done is done. They're not going to change it, we tried to get them to, it didn't work. Now we work with what we've got, which means reporting these things when we see them so that LL has the opportunity to step up. If we don't report, they can't know when and where it's happening. From: someone and the fact that underagers are gonna have to work in strip clubs (lets face it if they cant build its the best way to make money) to be leered at by older men, frankly disgusts me.
They don't HAVE to work anywhere, they'll choose to or they won't. If my kid made a choice that dumb it would be her ass I kick not the people who had no idea how old she was. From: someone I am looking out for there insterests as well It's "their" not "there" and no you're not. If you were, you'd be reporting them. If you see someone about to step in front of a bus, do you calmly say "Hey you probably shouldn't do that" and then claim to have tried to look out for his interests when it hits him or do you actually go to a little effort to push him out the way? From: someone Why should i have to be the one to fix it when it wasnt my mistake in the first place. "But mommmm, why should I have to clean it up? It's not my mess." My daughter stopped using that arguement when she was seven.

I can understand some of the OP's frustration. I mean, instead of being more proactive themselves, LL has decided to dump the most of the work of finding the underagers onto us. They only react after we've done the hard part, which is weeding them out.
Now before you say that it was like this before the CC verification was taken out, I am well aware that it was. Yes, teens got onto the grid via various tricks. But at the time LL was sharing the burden of at least weeding out the not so tricky and wily. Both grids had CC verification systems.
Now? The teen grid has the verification system, which makes it harder for them to get on their own grid. They look at the main grid and go, 'Hmmm... they don't require verification on that one. I think.. I'll go there!' How many teens wouldn't do this? They've hit the age of rebelion and this would seem like grand fun to some of them.
It's gonna happen, I know. It happened before, yes. I just feel that LL should help share the burden and be a bit more proactive. I just wish I had a suggestion for the situation, but I can shoot huge holes in the ones I had.

From: Kat Sullivan why should I be part of the attempt to fix LL's mistake Self-preservation... If you have knowledge of minors on the grid, if that knowledge includes the avatar name/s, then you are aiding and abbeting them... which is against ToS and can get YOU banned. Thing is, you've confirmed that you had the chance to get that information in this thread, but didn't... so you're putting your own account very much at risk now... do the right thing for your own sake, report them. From: someone there is a reisk that these under agers will ahve to get jobs in seedier parts of second life. And if you had reported them, you'd be protecting them from the risk... From: someone at the risk of sounding like Helen Lovejoy of "the simpsons" wnot someone think of the children. You aren't... so why try to guilt other people into doing so? You can look at this and do one of three things... You can do something about it by reporting them, you can whinge about it on the forums, or you can just ignore it altogether. Which are you doing?

omg i am not aiding and abetting them, dont even think that you are being smart by trying to turn this discussion into a "witchhunt". You are missing the point completely. People have said be part of the solution and not the problem by reporting them, the point is there wouldnt be such a huge problem if it wasnt created by LL. the "right thing" would have been not for LL to do it in the first place.
"I am putting my account at risk", i doubt it but if thats the case i will just get another one with this new verification process, should be easy.
plus your choices at the end, please look at my post count and realise how many posts i actually do on here, i dont normally have a "winge" about anything. I doubt i will on this forum as well, because the one time i have a pros/ cons discussion with, it turns into slates and slurs on character and no actual crediable arguments arise against it. and for someone to correct my gramma of there and there well thats just plain ignorant. i hvae a form of dyslexia and i see that as an insult, thanks for attempting to kick me when i was down sort of senario.
UNtil someone can actually come up with a decent arguments against instead of turning it intoo a "lets hunt the people who wont search for LL's mess ups" and a slur against my character. i am no longer posting.
peace out

Kat well not true there is more than working in a strip clubs, unless the teenager is wanting to get caught.. I have run into teenagers that have only did one thing is lie about their age, other than that they act like any other adult.. scary sometimes but nice to know that he next generation is alittle wiser and smarter.. acting abit quicker Yes its LL for not enforcing this and its LL not having a grid for both teens and adults, when many worry... it shouldn't be a big deal to change some stuff to have another gird for all thought I find more underaged people form playing Darklife, Tech Warfare, and those other SL games... I am so sorry that teens to be packed with another teens that drive them crazy they move to this gird without LL knowlage... actically some states the age of adulthood is about 16... I am seriously mad that they have to suffer when some 16 year olds own their own house and has to work to keep their house. tsk tsk LL tsk tsk

um no.. you are clearly not paying attention. if LL bans you, with the new hash # ID we're prolly done with you, at least for a while.
of course you're not aiding and abetting, you're what they'd call an accomplice after the fact, i believe. that's what they'd call it in u.s. courts anyway.
stop pretending you're worried about the kids and then getting huffy when ppl point out what anyone truly concerned for them would do.

Regardless of who let the minors in, someone needs to escort them back out of the adult grid. To knowingly turn your head to minors in the grid that are known to you is wrong.
LL made a mistake I agree, and they need to close the gate. But the only way to get the ones that slipped through when ti was open is for people who know who they are to point them out.
