No problem Fade, glad to help :)

Ingrid, all good, cept theres still someone in slutwear behind him. Period or not, its still slutwear..

That's so hylarious, you just called Saint-Ingrid, like the LESS slutty person in SL, slutty.
Well I mean not her but her clothes... Hahaha! XD Anyways. Just fun fact...

From: Lora Morgan
I can't believe no one mentioned Nicola Escher! She has a store in Midnight City, with some unique 1930's styles for women. I'd say Fallingwater for women's shoes. Although her's aren't modifyable, the styles are very tasteful and well executed. And try Barnesworth for tasteful men's shoes and clothes. Little Rebel has some nice 50's styles.

Yes I was suprised noone had named Nicola yet, I am glad you did.

And all I need to say to those people, is GET OUT MORE.
I can't stand people complaining they can't find this or that anymore.
I am not trying to be big-head here neither rude, but gosh! Even when I was a newbie, 3 days fresh old, a year ago, I managed my way to find non-slutty wear, 30s charleston even, in just a few days...
Get out of your crib, get out of the clubs, maybe the places you hang at are not the good ones, there ARE some places that sell that stuff and, no, they are NOT that hard to find.

Toast, Nylon, Indie and I sell everyday wear, anything but slutty, hand drawn, for ladies mostly, and Barnesworth Anubis and Forseti Svarog sell some uber classy suits for the males... The best.

As for 30s wear, Nicola Escher is top notch. Pair that with some shoes and jewels by Fallingwater Cellardoor and you are on a run.
Jackal Ennui also sella some very impressive jewelry that matches perfectly for antique, etc.

Rita Groshomme has some flapper and stuff hair.

As for other times in history, Vindi Vindaloo has a bit of it all, and we are talking super quality here.

There is also hyasynth Tiramisu who sells some delicious neo-victorian, on the edge of EGL EGA.

You can also find pieces in spots you'd never think you'd find it at, such as Canimal.
She has some seriously non-slutty awesome vintage dresses that look very old.

As well as some cameo jewelry, you can find some at my store, at Nikolaii Uritsky's store, and at Rebel Hope's store.

You can also find some very decent stuff at Nephilaine Protagonist's store, such as the "Unusual Compliments" series by team New Zero.

And I could go on and on....

Have fun exploring!!

A number of stores have been mentioned above, and I agree, I've seen most of those stores and it's good stuff. I had to specifically search for them, I didn't stumble across them in the equivelant of telehub malls or dance club booths... but that's ok. So men CAN find clothing (at various price ranges) to look like they stepped out of an old movie. There's also western wear available for cowboys, and for other classic looks you'll probably want to search for 'costume' instead of 'clothing'.

But... notice that the only guy pictured in this thread is bald. Long and messy (or windswept or whatever) hair is the norm... finding short and/or combed hair is still difficult. There are good reasons for it, from symmetry to the way prims go together to the wide variety of head shapes... but still, I wish I could find hair in that Cary Grant style (or Clark Gable, or Kirk Douglas, or Dick Van Dyke, or too many other examples, even Jimmy Stewart/Henry Fonda/Rock Hudson count).

I've done some 50's, 60's and 70's outfits (mostly because of the lack when we were running themed nights at an old nightclub) and have been amazed at how well they have sold since.

I didnt expect clothes like that to be popular except for "themed" events and how many of those in that timeframe do you actually see in SL? lol

I dont consider myself a great clothing designer, but I've tried to do some men's clothing and do you know how hard it is to actually get clothing to wrap around a male frame well?!?!? (at least for me - lol) Clothing for the female frame will work on almost any shape in SL, but men like these things called muscles and they do horrid things to the few designs I've tried to make :) There seems to be a growing demand for mens clothing, perhaps thats part of the reason for the lack?

Well for suits there is no comparison at the moment, it is still all about Grimm and Muse. Stampshady Grim owned the suit market so hard I do not want to try. His tails are the best $1000 linden you can spend if you are a guy.

I do some guy stuff, its based on russion fashion so it has some punk/goth overtones, but I am expanding. My jeans sell well.

As far as hair, I go with lost thereian. Though Courious Kitten has some wilder men's hair that is not long and looks decent.

Swell does awesome men's stuff but it is preppy.

I can't help ya much on shoes, I like my doc webers.

Went to 'town' yesterday and searched out some of the stores you all have mentioned. Found a lot of wonderful designs and even some great men's wear at Vindi Vandaloo's. By the way, thanks for the images Ingrid! I prefer tighter skirts myself, but I'd love one of those coiffures. :)

While I'm at it I'd like to repeat this post because it describes precisely the dilemma I feel:

From: Fade Languish
Monique, it's actually really frustrating to find guy's clothes outside the long hair/goth realm. I had to go way too long with the default hair, because I could barely find any guy's hair, and what there was either long or poorly made (thanks to the higher powers for Lashed!).
Don't even start me on guy's shoes. They are almost non-existant, and usually are really ugly lumpy boots. I managed to find some good sneakers, which I live in, but I really long for some proper shoes. My dream is to find some nice pointy cuban heeled boots - I'd pay anything. I love wearing suits, but lack footwear to go with them.
I think part of the reason there's not much for guys is that many don't concern themselves with fashion too much. They buy a couple of things they like, then live in it. Not me, I'm a total clothes-whore!
It would be nice to see something different, wouldn't it?

And this by Fade also deserves to be repeated:
From: someone
When I first got here, I was instantly struck by how horrible I thought women's shoes were. Horrible chunky platform things everywhere.

Myself, I've got nothing against stilettoheeled thighboots, at least not in the right context *blushes*. I just don't see why they always got to have those ugly big platforms, so I agree wholeheartedly. :)

Lora Morgan mentioned Nicola Escher. In fact, her's was a boutique I stumbled upon when I was only some 3 days old. But that's why I originally wrote there was very little in terms of 20's-30's fashion instead of none.

And take a good look at LUXE (Lo Jacob's). Unique, non-slutty and sexy at the same time. Some vintage designs, but not specializing in any particular decade.

I didn't see anyone mention Simone as being a vendor for some really nice formal wear, some reminiscent of the 40s and 50s.

I think the reason many wear "slut wear" is that is what is readily available, easy to find, and some of it very inexpensive. If a plethora of non-slut wear fashions start flooding the market, I think people would gravitate towards those items and start a new SL fashion trend.

Ahh yes Simone, I think she just came out with some menswear as well?
I forgot to mention Lukas Thetan as well for menswear.
