Why attack SL?

Maybe I am too niave? But what do people get out of attacking the grid? I understand (not condone, but understand) a rl terrorist attack based on a religious belief, or commiting a crime to feed a drug addiction - or something along those lines. But what is the point in annoying people by committing a virtual crime. I just don't get it.

Same reason people team kill in CS, create a computer virus... its gets their jollies off.

It gives them a sense of power and control.

Have you ever met a total a**hole before? Not just someone being pissy, or being a jerk, but someone whose entire existence is wrapped up in annoying others?

They do exist. And they like to visit SL.

Can the coding for self replication be removed from the game? just curious would help a great deal if it could.

It's because they think that the bulk of the SL population takes the internet, and even more so SL, too seriously. So they're going to "teach them a lesson". Most times, they try to hide behind the skirts of "post-modernism".

They probably sit around afterward playing FPS games, while eating Doritos, drinking gallons of Mountian Dew, picking at zits, calling each other racial slurs, and giggling themselves into a stupor. "d00d! didja see how many threadz were started about our attax!??! w3 rOxXoRz!"

So you see, they feed off the reaction they get in the forums. This is why you ALWAYS see these turds popping up after these attacks, with one, or very few posts to their names, making vague little jabs at forumites. They have dozens if not hundreds of shill acounts to do this with. After a couple of years of observing this behavior, one develops an eye for spotting it -- not that it's very difficult.

Just once, I would love to see SLers exercise restraint and not show that they are upset. I also wish we could end world hunger, stop war, and take a taxi to Mars.

You would have better luck asking the world to stop posting "Can I have your stuff" when somebody else posts an "I'm quitting and here are the reasons why" diatribe.

Just because a few people abuse something is no reason to remove it. It's loss would hinder SL more than the occasional grid outages caused by these tards, there are a lot of scripts that rely on rezzing objects. Like some build tools people have designed or other such things like AI projects. I think the crux of the problem is the llPassInventory or something like that... I dunno someone explained it once and I was like... okay.

There are tons of ways to bring the grid down intentionally or even accidentally SL is still pretty fragile. And, it says something about the community at large because the Grid is up and stable way more often than not. Im glad most resident scripters handle themselves with well and don't go postal on the grid, and I think they are too, even if they have evil urges at times. =P

Most posters so far are assuming that the person griefing didn't have a reason and they just get sick pleasure out of it, my theory is that something about SL pissed them off and they are exacting their diabolical plot to destroy the world.....

The nature of SL is such that it is capable of inspiring very high levels of resentment.

Actually, I'm going exactly by what he said in his post. His post said that the grid attacker, and people like him, play FPSs, and do X, Y, and Z. He didn't say that all people who play FPSs do X, Y, and Z, which was your initial complaint.

If anyone is adding anything to his meaning, it's not me.
