From: Zal Korvin I made proposition 910 to directly tackle extortion, rather than just ugly builds. The problem with 910 is what if a builder also includes buildings, scripts and other items as part of the sale? And if the stuff is very high and professional quality, do we limit the ceiling on their asking price? But I do see merit in 910, especially in parcels under a certain size.

From: Chris Wilde Prop 905! I would certainly vote for it, but all my votes are stuck on other things -- one being the Texture Blacklisting proposition

perhaps this is too much for a single reply, perhaps this requires a new post, but still:
Why not "zone" SL? by that I mean, advertising zones, commercial zones, residential zones, etc. (insert random SimCity joke here)
Regions in SL not currently zoned will remain that way in the future, but new regions will be zoned, which will make for allowing only certain types of builds in zoned areas.
Policing of these zones will probably have to be done by a live player or a linden.
I know that its alot to suggest and logistically it dosent sound very efficient, but it is a possibility that very well could work.
Option 2: Add in to TOC: No resident may upload and/or place a texture onto a prim which is slanderous to other residents or real-world individuals. Placement of such a texture will result in the removal of the prim. Repeated offenses will result in escalated counteractive measures.
Or, something along those lines, my Legalese is not as up-to-scratch as it once was... =(

I wouldn't be surprised to see that at all, but so far all the LL zoning experiments have failed (and there have been some). I think they're counting on land developers to create zoned communities which is already happening

Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if LL takes the cue from all the controversy over this and decides to release more zoned sims. My hunch is that they were hoping the free market would fill in the gaps between free-for-all-mainland and zoned communities, but it seems that those options aren't enough for many players. Personally, I would hope that ALL new sims aren't released as zoned, but that's just me.

Now that we have p2p teleport, is it such a big deal to have your home on one area, your store in another region, and your club somewhere else? It's quite easy to set up teleporters between your various 'places', I've seen them about already.
This far into the life of the game, to zone everything would, I think, be quite hard for many players to accept...... although by opening up zoned regions and giving something like a 'free land swap' package to anywhere of your choice in the new areas might be a good incentive.
