A nice solution for scripters dealing with combat situations maybe, but it seems to me, the only sensible anti-griefing tool in this respect is simply to limit 3rd party push via permissions in the first place.

Would it really be so hard for "allow push" to be a setting in Preferences?

2nd Question.

Why does turning off build permissions in the land properties apply to the owner/group as well? That's really annoying....

This seems like such a simple solution and given the fact that it hasn't been implemented leads me to believe there must be something in the core of SL that doing this would break it. Like not allowing you to walk or something major like that.

Is the gravity in SL push based?
Just a thought and all of you in the know are free to laugh at me if that makes you feel better..

It should be easy to make a toggle to disable llPush affecting an avatar, stopping push from getting hit with a physical object would probably be a lot harder though.

I suspect the reason they haven't implemented this is out of fears that it will interfere with legitimate uses of push (i.e. games that use push as a core feature -- people could easily cheat by changing the "allow push" setting in their preferences).

Whether or not that concern is outweighed by the very real and justified griefing concern is certainly something that could be brought up for discussion before LL, although I have a feeling it's been discussed several times in the past. No harm in trying again, though... if enough users call for it, LL may eventually rethink their position.

But if ability to apply push was included in the permission system (in the same manner ability to animate one's AV work, for that matter) ... games and such could very easily determine if they were given consent to push their target (as they'd have to check for permissions in the first place) Removing this cheat possibility while still allowing people to have control over what happens to them.

That's true! I hadn't thought of that. Although things could get a bit hairy as far as having to repeatedly check the permissions in case the user changes the setting in mid-play...hmm... But yeah, definitely something to think about.

I was also thinking something similar. llRequestAgentData already allows scripts to query limited portions of information about avatars, seems like an idea to me would be to add a ALLOW_PUSHES flag to the request would make sense. Scripts could then determine on their own if a push would work against an agent.
