IF someone drop nice well done textures on me you are welcome.. BUT they must be good ones and seamles and free to use.. or shoes, bags, dresses,,,, houses.. .loads of money.. (Lindens are ok)... do it! AND Little black dresses to are all ok.. gowns.. myyyy... good scripts to.. BUT dont drop yourself.. pls.. I am engaged already... ) Now the serious part.... What are good.. "I want it” Advertising - Marketing?... What are serious notecards to publish ”your” thing in SL? SL have not a good marketing tool so far... I feel that out in SL are many good stores that I still dont know about... scripters... buillders.. designers.. How shall they show they exisists - How shall I learn to know that they exisists.. ?? The ones that send out notecards should have a list of the ones the send them out to and IF any send back a ”I dont want your notecards” - they should stop it at once... IF they dont stop they should be abuse reportet - not before... And yes I am working with marketing daily.. I have seen the problems.. and last SL ar ediff to IRL when it comes to markleting... we are all still searching the correct ways to do it. with the few tools that LL have given us.. *** I dont want notecards about raw sex (fetisher are ok), churches... or clubs.. pls.. I am open to learn.. .we al must that.. pls as SL are so different... /Tina -that still wonder how she shall market her store EXAKT - Made in Sweden at Verloren Sim...

No, it's bloody annoying. On a good day I'll ask them nicely not to do it again, on a bad day they get muted. It's something that I think is so obviously rude and inappropriate, that people shouldn't be surprised if they get ARed for it.

From: PetGirl Bergman SL have not a good marketing tool so far... I feel that out in SL are many good stores that I still dont know about... scripters... buillders.. designers.. How shall they show they exisists - How shall I learn to know that they exisists.. ?? The best proposal for a solution to this that I have seen so far is Hiro Pendragon's design for a Google Answers-like shopping assistant service that provides customised on-demand advertising to consumers and at the same time channels some of the money spent on (dubious) marketing into active microjobs for the many newbies that currently do not have many more options for jobs than being zombies in a camping chair or a dancing pad. Read all about the proposal here and maybe you'll like it so much you may even decide to pledge money for its realisation. From: PetGirl Bergman The ones that send out notecards should have a list of the ones the send them out to and IF any send back a ”I dont want your notecards” - they should stop it at once... IF they dont stop they should be abuse reportet - not before... I disagree completely. You should have learned from the problem of email spam that opt-out is hopelessly cumbersome to the consumer. Why on Earth should I be bothered to write to everyone of the maybe 5,000+ stores available in SL each and every time they decide to first-time mail me when the rule could be that I should opt-in to hear more from them?

From: Red Mars And if you AR'ed someone for sending one ad I'm sure it would be rightfully ignored. There's 160,000 residents. Assuming only a tenth of those advertise and only half of those actually contact you and you're in for 21 ads a day for a year without any repetition. In reality the number of unsolicited advertisers is probably only in the hundreds, probably because unsolicited advertising is considered against the TOS by the residents (Seems unclear if it actually is). You're not promised any rights to speech so I don't think it should be allowed.

Unsolicited advertising is a NO GO, stated in your profile or not. Opt out is no option, it's always Opt-in. Anyone, who sticks something into my inventory without asking me first will get an abuse report. Imagine walking through the city and getting bits and bits and bits of paper stuffed into your pocket by advertising people. You would be rightfully annoyed.

The way to get attention for a store with handouts is to make your handouts fun or interesting enough that people take them on their own, not go around thrusting them into people's faces (an almost literal description of being spammed with a notecard). Either that, or use your own products and demonstrate them - easier if you're a gadgeteer sort rather than a furniture builder, really, but, say, finding a place which has a lot of traffic and donating some appropriate furniture to them - with a little touch notecard giver - would also work. There are loads of possibilities that don't involve filling people's inventories with crap they never asked for.

From: Ravenelle Zugzwang Good idea? Bad Idea?
I don't really like having those things dropped on me out of the blue when I am in the middle of something. I should have enabled my busy mode, so on that front it's partly my fault.
When I asked him why he chose to do this to me, he thought I was out of my mind and seemed to not know what I was speaking of, but later he remember that he paid some people to set about and drop these things on people.
Does anyone know another way to stop a pop-up of a notecard or texture without enabling busy mode? It's called SPAM -- barely 24 hours after I bought my FIRST LAND, some a**hole furniture dealer spammed me with a texture for his junk furniture store.

I think it would be a good idea for the Lindens to drop note cards entering sand boxes with the rules to abide by while in the sand boxes. Sometimes I have to point out to read the sign and then they say "Oh I didn't know"
It's being done when when we teleport to the welcome area anyway why not sand boxes.

Okay. I'm a pretty honest guy. So I'm gunna admit that I only read the original post and half of the first reply.
So if I'm beating a dead horse, then forgive me.
With that said. Are you guys REALLY complaining about this? Alright. Maybe I'm a new breed of super human that *doesn't* get annoyed if someone hands me a club opening invitation, or a sale flyer. Is this REALLY ruining your SL gaming experience?
"OH NO. THIS DUDE JUST HANDED ME A TEXTURE. I'M NOT GUNNA CLICK *ANYWHERE* ON THE SCREEN OTHER THEN THE TEXTURE AND MINIMIZE IT. I'M GOING TO REPORT HIM AND RUIN HIS SL LIFE THE SAME WAY HE JUST RUINED MINE BY HANDING ME A TEXTURE"
Reporting people for pity stuff like this is not the way to go. If someone is harassing you in IMs/Public chat. Report him. If someone is shooting you/nuking your club. Report him.
If someone is giving you a texture to try to promote something, just wait until they are sexin and send them a texture of a giant penis. That really kills the passion of the moment.

Your recommended resolution to this issue is to become a stalker of the advertiser and then grief them back? and the other solution was to shut up and take it?

Meh, I used to give n00bs a notecard with landmarks for interesting / nice places to visit as well as a box of freebies. I guess I can't do that now, let alone recommending that they visit The Shelter, NCI or the Ivory Tower of Primitives.

Nope Alazarin. It's spam and must be dealt with an iron fist. Roar.

You get permission from the lindens to put a note card giver at the Visitors center. If people are interested they will click it and get a note card to these places. If there is a better way to deal with this (I forgot about the shelter etc) then I would suggest discussing it here.

You want a texture pinned to your screen when Arrekusu's right on the virge of reliving you of your last point in a greulling aerial dogfight? I think you miss the point.

From: Josh Latrell Are you guys REALLY complaining about this? Yes. Because it's a special kind of spam that pops up on your screen, fully opened, and ready to read/view. In fact it's hard not to since you're looking at the screen anyway. From: Josh Latrell Alright. Maybe I'm a new breed of super human that *doesn't* get annoyed if someone hands me a club opening invitation, or a sale flyer. IRL, it's still a little annoying when someone tries to hand you flyer. It's just garbage you don't want and now you have to find a trash can. But, that's different than this. The real life equivalent of this would be having someone from out of nowhere hold up a flyer six inches in front of your face and keeping it there until you rip it out of their hands. I'm pretty sure most people would get highly annoyed at that. From: Josh Latrell Is this REALLY ruining your SL gaming experience? Ruining my second life? No. Abuse report worthy? Absolutely. HP
