texture application in new version: Are you fucking kidding me?

Seriously. It's bad enough that I had to select a prim, go into the texture application window, and select the texture over and over again in order for it to fucking apply.

But now in the new version, the texture picker doesn't keep the prim's texture selected, forcing you to type in the name over and over and OVER again in order to fucking have it stick.

DEAR LINDEN LAB:

ARE YOU DELIBERATELY TRYING TO MAKE IT NOT WORTH THE HASSLE TO BUILD ANYTHING IN SECOND LIFE? THIS IS BUILDING INCONVENIENCE FOURTEEN. PLEASE MAKE IT TWENTY BY YEAR'S END.

SINCERELY, LORDFLY DIGERIDOO

There definitely seems to be some bugs in the texture picker now. Earlier today I was trying to find the file name for one of the textures in a skin. I went into appearance and clicked the texture in the tattoo slot. That made the texture picker open as it should with the correct thumbnail image but it didn't find the texture in inventory and highlight it. I thought "hmm, okay, maybe I accidentally deleted it at some point" but then I found it myself sitting right in a folder near the top of my inventory. They definitely broke something and I hope it gets fixed soon.

Shouldn't this be in the Second Life Answers forum? It's not like anyone here can help you. Well, I'll try anyway.

Lyrics/Music W.Bullock/H.Spina

Be optimistic!
Don't you be a grumpy
When the road gets bumpy
Just smile
(Smile and be happy!)

Your troubles can't be
As bad as all that
When you're sad as all that
No one loves you

Be optimistic!
Don't you be a mourner
Brighten up that corner
And smile

Don't wear a long face
It's never in style
Be optimistic
And smile!

Here's another bug! This one makes it fifteen on my list:

I cannot link 5 prims together that total 35m in length. They are 35m long-wise, 1 meter tall, 10m wide.

This should not be a fucking issue.

aye i had some issues with it

cut box, hollowed out to make a > style shape, 3 of them, apply single texture to the object (normally this applies the texture to all the faces @ once)

but the edges of the prim, and the insides wouldnt texture, oddly enugh on this 3 prim object one of the prims did that and forgot to apply the texture on one of the outside faces =/

Here's another one: the delete key doesn't work on the numbers in the building menu.

Why did you break that? Please fix it.

Argh.

Every version I have to work around more shit.

I like designing. I really do. But I also don't like having my eyes poked with a stick.

I cried when this happened to me today. I can't remember the names of the ten million textures I have, and this also now breaks the easiest way I had to get one of these textures to someone else, as you can't double click the texture in the texture picker and have it open up in its own window.

I'm with LF on this one, someone(s) really dropped the ball on building QT for this version. I'm gonna stay optimistic tho and hope that they're fixed by monday.

Wow... The new texture picker really does blow.... I can see this easily tripling the time it takes to make stuff.

More work to do convincing LL I guess... it's getting pretty tiring.

Well I never logged in to the preview grid so I don't feel like I have too much room to complain (and I absolutely love beeing able to shrink the UI), but it's definitely annoying and I hope they fix it soon. This bug will cause a lot of things to take much longer than they should. If I could do real work in preview without it being wasted I'd be a lot more inclined to test new builds.

I reported the texture picker bug in preview. So complain away!

I went into preview a few times - the bugs I reported got fixed (the "show every single item in every single folder when you open the texture picker" bug was back), but this one either I didn't notice or else its new entirely.

EDIT: FW is much more thorough a bug tester than I. However the situation just frustrates me even more now.

* Fixed a bug that caused the Texture Picker to automatically select a texture

So is it deliberate or is this some other 'bug' that I've never encountered?

Either way, I bet it's what broke it.

Add this to your list..

When editing textures on prims in a linked set: if you're using edit linked parts and you select a face or multiple faces to texture, then leave select texture mode, any further texture changes will only affect those faces (even though the whole prim is now selected), not all of the faces of the selected prims (as was previous) until you change your selection. Fine, if that's not a big issue..

Has anyone gotten the damn eyedropper to work? It doesn't seem to do crap.

The eyedropper works, it's just entirely useless seemingly. It lets you pick the color off of the face of prims in-world. The color that's applied to them, it doesn't sample the texture on them. I guess it's only real use is to sample colors off other people's stuff (even attachments it turns out.) Was that a big problem before, not being able to retrieve the exact shade of beige someone tinted their prim dick?

BMS: Now Linden Labs, Lordfly would like to come out and talk to you.

Audience: Claps softly

Lordfly: Hi...

BMS: Go ahead Lordfly, tell LL what you told me back stage.

Lordfly: Well, it's just that.. well I'm always the one to suggest bug fixing.

LL: Hey I have to deal with complaints all day and bug testing is the furthest ..

Lordfly: *weeps

LL: I'm sorry.. I know

Lordfly: YOU JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE.

LL: I DO I DO! Give me just one more chance.

Lordfly: You mean like before stipends got jacked!

LL: ouch...

I quit. All I do in SL is build, thats it. This has SERIOUSLY made all progress grind to a halt. call me when they fix it.

So for those wondering where I went (not many of you), I quit SL till they fix this.

Try having your main, RL job be making textures and applying them to other people's builds. Or your own, doesn't matter. I'm pretty f*cked right now either way. This has massively broken two major parts of my workflow, between the "no auto-select texture in inventory" bug and the "select texture face, hold shift and click another texture face to apply latter settings to both" bug.

Oh yeah, when you're in the texture menu and you're manually entering in values for horizontal repeat, and hit tab, you're now taken to the "Flip" checkbox instead of the vert repeat value field. Yeah, it won't take me more than a minute to break 2 years of .9-tab-.8-tab-.7-tab-.6.

I just tried what you're talking about........ ouch.

I was reading this thread just before logging out to start work on splitting a 2048 x 512 photo montage I have been working on into 512x512 sections to fit across 16 prims totalling 160m in length.

I can see I am going to be in for a very interesting morning.

cory, let me tell you, from the bottom of my heart i feel ya.
between the new chat and this texturing nonsense... I feel like i need to find something new to do. It pains me. I really, deeply wish the lindens would just put it back to the way it used to be. My instincts tell me they wont.
Thats why I'm getting out now while I can. Its been a great 2 years, but I just cant take this change.

Great luck to you Cory.

I never encountered any of these problems, and my eyedropper in the select texture window works fine?

O.O Am I that 'abnormal' that I don't even get bugs? I feel like I'm discriminated against...

trust me when I tell you that this isnt 'abnormal'. I got into a giant arguement with my really good friend today about it. Things worked fine for him, but not me. Sorry Mr. Mason, I didnt mean to snap at ya (shameless plug). So yeah, it seems to work OK for some, but not others.

Oh it gets better.

I've just discovered I can't upload files with upper case extensions (.TGA) only lower case.

Had to go into a DOS prompt and rename them manually. They're now uploading just fine with .tga extension.

This never happened before. Gotta love these updates.

I noted this in the builders forum. Dunno if there were ever any replies.

Bug reporting, anyone? :D
