Have you discussed with your academic advisor the selection method of this work? If participants are self-selecting themselves through this forum, the analysis may get dinged by critics suggesting that forum participants who volunteer are not a representative sample of SLers at large. OTOH, if you state that at the outset, it may fly? |

Hiya I have discussed this with my supervisor It is a problem with most research the selection method of participants, but due to the large number of responses I need, and various other factors to do with my design, it is hard to get participants any other way. As long as I discuss the problems (and positives!) of my selection method within my research, it is okay. But you are right, I will have to point out that my sample is not necessarily a representation of SL members as a whole. |
