I like flying in planes between continents. Telehubs were a bad idea, void sims with water are not. Of course, it might be interesting if the water sims prohibited terrforming, and the underwated land was acutioned off. People might enjoy building underwater.

What they might not enjoy is the performance of retired servers though!

Can someone post a list of the void sims? Or is there way to tell what they are? Or are we just talking about the water between the islands/continents? Can we actually sail/fly from one island/continent to another now?

I love sailing - void sims are a god send for relaxing and exploring.

I love the journey not the getting there.

Void sims and the edges of void sims are my SL.

...i would love to see void sims greatly expanded through on-demand handoffs amongst a pool of generic ocean servers...

...right now, running into a hard stop against the edge of the world is the biggest break in immersion while exploring the grid...instead, imagine the wonder of freely following the horizon to one's heart's content, imagine sailing unfettered from the mainland amongst our menagerie of private islands!..open oceans would be a tremendous boon for vehicle content, innundating the SL community with richly developed gameplay...

(of course island owners should retain the option to disable ocean-server access in similar fashion to current private telehub restrictions against p2p)

...walls are bad game design!..

Vehicle controls aren't the best in SL. It's not that easy navigating a boat along the edge of a sim. Before the water void sims, if you didn't hit someone's built over water or their security fence, you'd go off the edge of the world trying to avoid them.

So, would in a business sense in order to save money, to get rid of them? do they still fill a purpose?

What business sense is there for flowers?

I have been trying to get an answer for some time about WHETHER OR NOT VOID AND PROTECTED SIMS WILL STAY PROTECTED in the future.

I personally believe that we need voids and protected lands to keep some sense of order and stability and beauty and for all of the reasons people already mentioned in this thread.

There has been nothing but crickets in response to my posts (except for Nova, bless her, but it seems to be out of her hands) and my helpline emails. As some may know, I was pretty PO'd when the protected lake (well half of it.. the other half is still "protected";) next to my land was sold at auction. I'm not bitter (much) but I would still like clarification and some sort of policy on these voids/protected areas.

So any of my friends who happen to be Lindens who want to nudge some of those who might be asleep at the wheel.... :D

Hey Kiamat! Long time no see...

I don't have a list of the sims handy, but it's all those mostly empty water sims that filled in the holes on (mostly) the main continent. You can definately fly/sail pretty much from one continent to the other now. If you've not played around in the void sims, try it.. they're great for swimming, boating, flying, etc.

It makes me sad to have to explain to newbies the value of exploring and having land that's connected to other land. Granted, I despised telehubs since day 1, but they did have one benefit, they made people realize that there's some space between point A and point B. Now, exploration is becoming a lost art, people just materialize somewhere and instantly appear somewhere else with nothing in between.

We need more vehicle builders and enthusiasts on Help Island :)

Keep the voids.

Some people buy land on the border of voids simply for the ocean view, and ability to go boating in a large open area.

Methinks SL needs a large public beach on that one island with the Teen Grid Transfer station (the coffee shop) and it would probably get used more.

Since P2P has arrived. Is there still a purpose the void sims hold to us? I think the reasoning behind the void sims were so that flying from point A to B would be easier. So, would in a business sense in order to save money, to get rid of them? do they still fill a purpose?

If so, what would that purpose be?

A void sim is NO sim. I think what you mean is the low powered sims to fill in gaps.

Yes there's a purpose.. we still fly, swim, walk.
