I think the history wiki needs to be updated. Also, I'd like to see an article on the weird effect on AVs, with an accompanying screenshot, either there or in the LSL wiki, where appropriate.

I see your 2 billion, and raise you 19.5 billion meters!

And I was just about to give up too... :D

So, according to Eggy, that's well above the theoretical "ceiling."

I'm finding the hardest part is actually not overpowering the sim. At least I've managed to stop crashing them :P

Should'nt we be seeing a planet rather than the horizon at that altitude ? Or is SL flatland on the back of a giant turtle ?

Methinks this whole thing is waxing ludicrous.

Huh? What did I say?
The thing about floats is they scale. Floats can go up to 10^38 ish. If I told you they could go up to 2^32 or something then I was confusing things with integers.

IEEE standard 754 floating point single precision numbers have a range of ±2^127

This is why the graphics are screwed up, as the positions of the limbs etc are too large for floats to store accurately so they get rounded...

Yes, Strife, but if you do the math 2^127 ~ 10^38 :P

You actually do 'fall' but uhm, it won't take you an hour to get down, it'll take you a 'few' 'Days'.

Please, feel free to write it yourself! It's a wiki. We rely on contributions, I will even pay people to write an article for it!

Not to rain on your guys' parade but has anyone ever asked a LL tech what happens to a simulator when objects/avatars are placed into such extreme positions? I hope it doesn't cause any kind of havoc (no pun intended).

Furthermore, why don't sims have a upper limit, especially since AVs and hovertext don't work at those altitudes? An oversight in sim design?

I mean, they do have "floors". Any object/avatar that tries to move below zero meters is returned. Makes me wonder why they never programmed for the other extreme.

 Haha awesome.

Beatfox, Let's join up and start the SecondLife Aeronautics and Space Administration, SLASA.

I want to go to 1 trillion meters! But for now I've got to go to work. :(

Beatfox looks so diferent when he's up that high in the air. I guess tails don't do well at that altitude. :p

They did. Avs are an exception.

So much for the recent threads suggesting that LL build a moon. Since Luna is only on average 384M meters away (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon), we've blown right past that. Someone start a petition to build MARS.

to wonder...what the pile of steaming hot...mess...that it would be if somebody actually let themselves fall all the way back to the ground after launching...

Terribly disappointed! I get to about 200m at most, then fall back to earth. Have I missed something obvious?

I was recently attacked by something like this in Blue Rausch. My Av was setn flying off the map and my av was all fooked up, even the eyeballs were betting popped out of their sockets.

Thing is, they did it cause I showed up and said 'hi'. I swear, some people....

Dunno. It's possible that a sim restart may have broken the spell. I'll have to check on it after work and see if I need to re-cast.

Thanks - I'm keen to try it. I hope it's not just me. I have been eating a lot of kit-kats recently :-)
