Here: /3/16/98420/1.html Classified can be seen here: http://secondlife.com/community/classifieds.php When do you think forum classifieds will be removed? Whoever is closest will win 1l$. I predict may 1st. Edit: And please add if you approve of this new feature or not, so that this thread looks like a discussion.

Man, I hope this isn't the end of the forum classifieds.
Frankly, the inworld classifieds blow. I never use 'em, either to buy or sell. The forum classifieds make it easy to see what new stuff is out.

I don't hope they remove the forum classifieds just yet either. This a nice next step but still isn't on the same level as the forum classifieds. Some way to short on date and to see how many classifieds there are in total would be nice. Instant Slurls are nice though. But the page seems to be loading very slow, doesn't seem ready yet to handle much traffic.

Until these web-based classifieds are keyword searchable they are next to useless. I use them in world, and to some effect but I'd regret seeing the forum classifieds poofing. Even so though until the web-based version is searchable I dont see them going anywhere near term.

Classifieds aren't searchable yet with the new google search they installed, I get all kinds of hits but no classifieds.

^.^ Exactly... and wading through 40 adverts a pop sorted by amount spent on the advert in question... is not really feasible.

My guess is May 31 for the removal of the Classified forums.
I guess I don't really care whether or not they do away with the Classified Forums. I don't really use either the forum or the in-world Classified listing right now, but I have used the latter quite a bit. I pay my L$60 each week for two plots to be listed in the in-world Find function, though; if they got rid of that, I wouldn't really like it.

I agree with Edw^h^h^h Beryl, Fate Gardens posted inworld classifieds for a couple of months but realized no increased traffic so reverted to using FIND exclusively. Frankly, I'd rather see the system used to compile and report the number of people who used the FIND/classifides teleport buttons to reach my location than the number of people who spent some percentage of daily time there.
In other words, the number of people who used a paid advertising service to find and visit me, is far more useful than dwell, sorry traffic. Well that's not saying much as traffic isn't actually very useful to begin with.

Well, almost two years ago, on April 28th, 2004, I predicted Second Life would collapse in two years... So, since I'm still hoping not to have to apologize for being wrong about that, I vote/guess, April 28, 2006, when SL collapses.

Just as an aside. I've never even looked at the in-world classifieds, let alone searched them. I know I'm odd and don't really represent a big percentage of the population, but I'm sure I'm not alone.

I predict that by July 1st the web classifieds will be searchable and users will be able to make instant purchases through them (bye bye SLExchange, SLBoutique).

From: Jarod Godel <gasps in horror> You posted that link I sent you? <feign a fainting spell> Why? The serious answer you will likely get from LL is an explanation of the Google search facility they've incorporated. It'll greatly surprise me if they understand that you're talking about a completely different, more focused feature. Hey, tell them that it's a fundamental programming consideration to provide a local search function anytime you develop a database interface and be amused by the blank stares.

I hope they don't get rid of the Classified forums, but since they're free, they probably will. I don't use the in-world classified, even if they are a good way to find out who's charging too much for their stuff. (If you can pay 15,000+ a week to advertise clothes, I'll avoid your place, because it's probably your customers paying for it.)

(If you can pay 15,000+ a week to advertise clothes, I'll avoid your place, because it's probably your customers paying for it.) I agree. The in-world classifieds are kind of pointless. I keep one for my store in and will never pay more that $1000-$2000L for it. I can't see the point of spending $30,000 plus on a two week ad that you don't even get a renewal reminder for. I like the Forum Classifieds. I liked them even more when you could post comments. The feedback was nice. It was a great way to gauge the responsiveness of your market. One could surmise that an outfit posted that got several hundred hits and numerous comments would be more popular than one that went virtually unnoticed. After the dissolution of posting comments, I urged Flipper to add a feature to SLB where you could post comments and ratings of other peoples items. I don't know how widely it is used though. In any case, I hope the classified forums don't go anywhere.

A Second Life (tm) Shopping portal would accomplish that in spades. And, hey, why write an API to enable others to make money off web sales when you can grab some cheap shopping cart software and hook into your own asset server?
