From: Adriana Caligari Please answer the following
Are you planning to crash the grid at any stage in the future ? ( Yes/No/Maybe ) Are you planning to defraud existing residents at any stage in the future ? ( Yes/No/Maybe ) Are you now - or have you ever been a griefer ? ( Yes/No/Maybe ) Do you know how to create any of the following : ...Griefing Script..............( Yes - No ) ...Sim Crasher.................( YES - No ) ...Self Replicating object...( YES - No ) ...Pyramid schemes.........( YES - NO )
lol! That always used to amuse the hell out of me on flights into the US. I think it's so cute to ask if you are a member of or have affiliations with of any terrorist organisations or whether you are intending to commit any terrorist acts while you're staying. I wonder if anyone ever answered yes just to see what would happen?

The difference with open accounts with no verification and Johny using mommy's CC to make an account is that -supposedly- the adult is monitoring thier child.
Sadly, we all know a lot do not, but that is the parents fault, not the childs. As adults can buy 18+ dvds and let thier kids watch them if they so choose, the parents can also allow thier child access to the main grid by allowing them to use thier CC to make an account.
The CC verification doesn't monitor WHO is on the grid, ti monitors who AUTHORISED the account being made. IF the parents don't watch thier kids close enough, then they need to learn to do so.
LL jsut took away the ability of parents to moderate thier children's exposure in SL.
There is no way to monitor a child 24/7. And not when they can create a free account at any time with no verification needed.
I hear calls of "Stop complaining. Give a solution."
We did.
Prop 1503. Almost 3000 votes in 3 days saying to bring back age verification via CC. IT's not a perfect system, but it worked better than the anarchy we have now.
So now you have the solution. Stop fighting it and do it.

From: Lewis Nerd I wonder what would happen if everyone used the same address.... something like "philip@lindenlabs.com", for example, to verify their account..... *ponders*
Merely a thought, not a suggestion by any means of course.
Lewis That's philip@lindenlab.com actually Lewis - no 's' on lindenlab what happens is, Phil gets a 'welcome' email, and when you log in everyone thinks you are one of Phil's alts. Depending on how things are going, this could be good or bad...

I just don't understand why there is no email check. I build websites for a living and in cases where accounts are created for access to parts of the website, I *always* do an email confirmation check. Now, I'm just building tiny little websites and I have the simpliest form of confirmation, but Second Life, a game that deals with real money, has no checks what-so-ever?
I just don't get it.
The worst part is, with all the ferver, with close to 3000 votes on a single proposition in under 48 hours, with all the threads, there has not been a single response from *any* Linden. None. Even in-game, when asked about it, the question is ignored.
When are we going to hear from Linden Lab's about this?
What do we have to do to get a response? We have followed the accepted channels; we've made a voting topic, we're created threads, we've emailed them directly, and I've even called them at their offices, but we are being ignored.
The only channel left to us seems to be to protest in-world, but I'm not sure that would do any good either at this point.

Linden Lab wants the user count to hit some sweetspot ... let's say 500,000 accounts ... before it suddenly reacts and tightens up the registration process again. They will put the checks back in, but not until they reach their target user base. Just watch.

Maybe that's what they want? Massive in-world protest would probably attract media coverage. Any publicity is good publicity. V. surprised at the head in sand response for so long. New Citizen's Plaza now becomes a sci-fi war-zone several times a day. Even sitting whilst trying to build in the sandbox is no use when griefers rez vehicles/prefabs and everything else on top of you. The day after the new ivory tower opened, a couple of griefers were firing weapons in there and mass-rezzing 10mx10m prims to annoy everybody in there. At the Skydiving club I use, somebody has rezzed multiple 10mx10m prims at above 700m so less skilled skydivers are likely to go splat. Random prims have also appeared all over the ground. In all the above examples...I right clicked the nuisance objects/prims...then selected the owner's profile...and what do you know? In every case...post June 6th 2006 signup. I'm a relatively new user...only signed up for my premium account little over a month ago. How stupid was I to pay a year in advance? If I'd foreseen how irresponsible LL could be with their decision making, I'd have paid on a monthy basis because right now, it seems things can only get worse and I'm more likely to bail long before the end of the year. So how about it Lindens? Can I get a pro-rata refund and switch back to monthly? Thought not. -- Dillon Morenz
