In Furvata, a friend and myself built a Mausoleum to some mutual RL friends that have passed on.

Used to be a pet cemetary in the forest in Taco, back when there was a forest there. Don't know if they moved it somewhere, but there's a dirt farm there now.
I ain't diggin there. Just sayin'. |

One of my favorite things is visiting historic cemetaries in RL, but not out of any morbid fascination. Many of them are full of stunning gardens and lush landscapes.
Around the early 1800's, there was a dramatic change in the whole concept of a "cemetary." The idea was to create beautiful places where people could celebrate the lives of those who have passed on. In England and France, there are many of these "garden cemetaries," as well as some in the US. Here's one such cemetary in Cambridge, MA. It's amazing: http://www.mountauburn.org/ Cemetaries need not be necessarily creepy or depressing... Take care, -Pathfinder _____________________

Neph used to have an altar of remembrance. well wishes and prayer in Chartreuse where you could light a candle and include a text message with your thoughts. The candle remained and others could read the message.
Was a great idea, and she may actually still have this in her cathedral build in Mocha. _____________________

Rhainnon Chatnoir still has a Cathedral in Darkwood, with a alter to place candles with well wishes and/or prayers. _____________________

On the last day before SL went live (if I recall correctly) there was a memorial service held for "Beta". It happened in the old Venice build. Some of the more notable beta residents said a few words and "Beta" was put to rest. I suspect that this could have been the first ever SL funeral.
Venice would later be torn down and rebuilt in a more 1.2 friendly lower prim version. However, the crypt seems to be unchanged, and still stands in Venice. |

Me, too. I was wondering what happened to April as well. To Paraphrase a scene from Monty Python's the Holy Grail "I'm not Dead yet". As Eboni mentioned, I've been playing WoW, but I've also been busy in SL. I just haven't been posting much in the forums. Sometimes it's best to say nothing. _____________________

This post from a thread in October; don't know if the offer is still available. Originally posted here /108/e3/64125/1.html While visiting this cemetary be sure to take note of the grave located just outside of the fence on the Biloxi side. It is the final resting place of a notorious SLer who no longer walks amongst us and who used these very forums to fake his rl demise. If you'd like to have this done get with Margaret as she has the alt used for the donation collection, and drop the info in a note on my profile and I'll git er done. Ugh Margaret that tomb moved ? I had it placed within the confines of the cemetary and some uhm, momentoes had been placed by grieving I'm sure visitors. ![]() _____________________

Take care, -Pathfinder I have been known to hunt out older cemetaries in the US in part for this reason but also because some of epitaphs written on tombstones are absolutely hillarious. Next of Kin it seems occasionally cannot help but get witty (usually if the dear departed was less than dear). |

Next of Kin it seems occasionally cannot help but get witty (usually if the dear departed was less than dear). This was actually a sort of hobby of my mothers and she would take me along with her when I was a kid. She would sketch really interesting grave markers and cemetaries and gardens. Actually, it may be how I became interested in gardens. Anyhow - I think it would be a splendid idea for SL. I'd contribute trees, flowers, fountains and grave markers free of charge if anyone does decide to do it. Rose _____________________

and if i ever get SL:UT off the ground, i could have an Obits section somewhere. it's the best i can offer..
and yes, i think having a cemetary for deleted accounts and such would be a nice thing to have in SL. apparently, there are some versions of this from reading the rest of this thread.. maybe it could be an entire sim? (it would have to be eventually anyway) |

Avtiveworlds had several memorial parks for its citizens who have died, as well as the typical tribute builds etc. that were pretty popular.
I think a Memorial sim would be a cool idea, though. _____________________

Frans has showed me where the one you spoke of is. I don't think the kid deserves 2 memorials but so be it.

Add-on to this, I've just remembered that I had posted a screenshot of the Neverland cemetary on my blog when the sim stil existed. Now I regret that it wasn't of better quality, but the picture is here all the same.

I was just talking with a friend, about Cemetery's (as you do) and I think it would be a top idea, to have a Cemetery Sim, where you can go for a wander, collect your thoughts, visit old friends, you know people that leave, move along, get banned, whatever. ... I know, its a strange and silly idea, but I just think it would be really really neat. I haven't put it in suggestions, cos its not really a suggestion before anyone jumps down my throat, its just a goofy idea that i'm wondering about. Anyone? I think is a good idea! I love cementeries, in every vaccation trip I do ...I must visit the cementery from that particular place and take pictures! I would love to do the same in sl ![]() _____________________
