I was just talking with a friend, about Cemetery's (as you do)
and I think it would be a top idea, to have a Cemetery Sim, where you can go for a wander, collect your thoughts, visit old friends, you know people that leave, move along, get banned, whatever. I know I miss alot of people that I first met that have long since left SL, would be nice to have some kind of memorial and go visit them and see a snapshot. I know, its a strange and silly idea, but I just think it would be really really neat.
I haven't put it in suggestions, cos its not really a suggestion before anyone jumps down my throat, its just a goofy idea that i'm wondering about.
Anyone?

Good idea, because I was feeling the same way too, and around Halloween as well--I visited several SL cemetaries. More of the horror-show variety and not anything terribly somber or serious, but I was looking for a coffin back then. Still got a nice CAR-FFIN by LeeAnn Liu, however. Driveable casket, ahhh.
I see your suggestion refers to SL Residents however. I do think about that too! What if they come back tho? Would they come rising, handfirst, outta the grave, or would that cause some sort of causality loop? I'm not sure how to deal with cases like that because I've known some peeps to be gone a few months to a year, and then they do return. Such is life. Second Life.

I was thinking that some people might like a virtual cemetary for people who've really died - an online memorial, in the same way that people put up memorial pages. I expect that there are some around already.

I expect that there are some around already. There used to be something like this in one of the City sims. Grignano, maybe? A garden of remembrance. It was a lovely spot to go and contemplate and it had many moving memorials for those that had passed on. Maybe it's still there. I still have it as one of my picks, I think, if you want to look for it.

Speaking as the recently re-animated... My "sl cemetery" is my Calling Cards folder, it seems.

I found a cemetary for people who'd left once. It was kinda spooky themed - rolling mist and the like - but it's purpose was just what you're talking about. Uh, I forgot where it was now though...

I like the idea of a cem for avs that have moved on. Pay a one time fee in $L based on size of headstone. If the av reappears, then it would be great fun to have a welcome back party at the headstone site.
I also had a plot of land for a long while as a memorial for someone that passed in RL. Had a few stone benches, a "living flame", and a copse of fir trees overlooking the water. Eventually, I turned it into a nice little house for a n00b pal of mine - sort of a cycle of life thing.

The Big Easy has a graveyard, with some funny Headstones. Made by Lecktor Hannibal.

In WWII Online they actually have in game memorials (statues and plaques) to players that have passed away IRL and their squad mates requested it. Its nice because you could be in a town and see a memorial to some players.

From: ZsuZsanna Raven Oh sweet, I wonder how much he charges? This post from a thread in October; don't know if the offer is still available. From: Lecktor Hannibal I am putting the finishing touches on the ST. Louis Cemetary #1 in the Big Easy. That said, I'm looking for tomb plaques to give the place the added immersion it needs. If you would like a final resting place please make a donation (at least $150L) for the Disaster Relief effort in world and submit your epitaph; name, dob-dod, witty prologue to lecktor_hannibal at yahoo dot com. You may also submit a texture for your plaque if you like. Originally posted here /108/e3/64125/1.htmlWhile visiting this cemetary be sure to take note of the grave located just outside of the fence on the Biloxi side. It is the final resting place of a notorious SLer who no longer walks amongst us and who used these very forums to fake his rl demise.

Also, in terms of cemeteries for the actually RL dead, ... the Aids Memorial Quilt goes on display form time to time, most recently at the Pride festival and is well worth a visit. I spent hours there at the last Pride festival, just looking and reflecting. It's an excellent example of "memorials" done entirely in SL prim type building. I think it might be on permanent display also somewhere, so someone please post the location if that's true.

Wow, this is spooky. I found a hole yesterday with an empty coffin in it. The headstone read "Patrick Playfair". Could it be???

Used to be a cemetary in Cass, behind the church building, which is also gone. Nobody specific was buried there, the headstones were nameless crosses and such.

there's a graveyard in Boardman, Buck Weaver made a little headstone in it for Andie Apollo that says "gone but not forgotten". I was really touched by that. Someone hold me.
