I'm a lover of Christmas and so lately I have been doing a lot of Christmas shopping in the game for my SL family/friends. One thing I dont understand is why all the no transfers on a lot of the items the merchants in the game is selling?

Honestly, it doenst make any sense to me because I would think you would make a lot more money from this season. I have seen signs that stated for a transferable copy, just contact the creater which is a HUGE PAIN and so I just keep searching until I find a store that will allow me to buy gifts in the game without the hassle.

Anyway, if anyone knows why a lot of merchants are selling their clothing, shoes, planes ect... with the no transfer rule, please explain it to me.

Thanks

So they're not resold for a higher price..

With attachments, clothes, skins, shoes, etc so they can be put with multiple outfits..

Tayla there are many reason. For everyone that complains about clothing not be transferable, there is someone complaining they can only have one item of clothing and not keep outfits together. Planes, well because of lag it is too easy to lose a plane in mid flight if your client crashes or something, so people sell them Copyable so you dont lose your money.

Thats just two examples.

I'm not sure what's such a big hassle about contacting the creator. If I'm logged in, someone can IM me, send me cash and give me the recipient name and have the item delivered in under two minutes. If I'm not logged in, they'll wait a max of eight hours.

And there's always SLExchange.

Taylaa is right. From a consumers point of view it is a HUGE hassle. I understand why some sellers make things No Trans... but I am also saying they lose $ because of this choice. Period. I am also a shopper who avoids no Trans items, .. first thing I do is find out if the item is transferable or not.. if it isnt I move on.. not like there isnt lots of choice in pretty much everything there is in SL. So the only person losing here is the seller.

I think the people who disagree are probably sellers and the ones who agree are the ones who like me do alot of shopping lol.

The nature of my business requires the items I make be copyable, so I keep them no-trans. Vehicles and such.

I came up with something that might be useful for other vendors that want their items to be buyable as gifts, so here's the link to the script library.

/54/cc/78461/1.html

I'll be putting it together as a freebie pack for anyone to grab probably tomorrow.

No transfer allows creators to send updates of scripted items when features are added or bugs are found.

If you're shopping for guys clothing, Barnesworth Anubis has a vendor in his Midnight City store that has his entire line set up with transfer permissions for the holidays.

Transfer
12-21-2005 05:51
Everything I make is set no copy and tranferable. I agree I dont get it either. I cant imagine the hassle of personal delivering every item that has been purchased as a gift this year. Over 300 items in my shop and they are all trans. :D

Another good point.

I really don't see this is a buyers vs sellers discussion. As a buyer, I have always preferred copy perms to transfer perms. I like being able to keep multiple versions in my inventory. In the case of objects or vehicles, I like being able to keep a few copies rezzed as decoration while still having other copies for normal use (and, of course, to protect against loss).

As a seller, I would vastly prefer to offer free updates to my customers. Just couldn't do that with no copy. I also like to offer free replacements when inventory issues bork my customers. Again, just can't do that with no copy. These benefits far outweigh the occasional gifting issues, so I'm not too concerned, as my internal gift process works pretty quickly for folks. I may lose a customer here or there as a result, but that few bucks is a small price to pay to better serve the rest of my customer base.

Most of our stuff is transfer, however, all our boots are no transfer to allow the buyer to modify them and make copies. Anyone wanting to give our stuff as a gift can go to SLBoutique or contact me directly.

We can't possibly please everyone, but we offer as many options as the permissions allow.

New permissions are the answer.

I really prefer to buy things that are copyable and modifiable over transferable, and I do a lot of shopping LOL
well
when the lag monster isn't biting my ass ;)
I really like the av vendors who also give a choice no copy/mod but transferable on one version, copy/mod no trans on a seperate version of the av/cothing that usually costs a little more... worth it to me =)
but over all, I usually look first for copy/mod permissions before transferable, since I like to mod my outfits/avi to personalise them, and always want an original copy as backup =)

So sell two versions.

I keep running into this myself, and I've never got a clear explanation of why this was such a difficult thing to do, particularly with clothing where you don't have any embedded scripts or animations that also need to be set right...

Some people just don't like IM-ing strangers. Some people want to be able to actually GIVE the recipient the gift... having it dropped on them by a stranger is just not Christmassy.

I just put most of my stuff in gift cards!

So people can buy a gift card and give it to someone, and they can come and pick up the items at the store, its all scripted, and its good way, so if they already have something you wont give them twice or if you dont know their style! hehehe
