The more I see of this debate, the more I feel the motive of the original posters was not so much to complain about something they thought was objectionable, but was simply to cause damage to Second Life. If I discovered that they had been employed by another virtual world for this purpose it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

That was Selador, not me.

You should still withdraw the suggestion. You accused 'a lot of posters here' of involvement in the avatar 'child porn' industry (not that you've yet provided any evidence that such a thing exists). I object to being smeared in that way because I've put forward an opinion that is different from yours.

Because you're getting increasingly annoying for a fifteen year old prude?

Aeolus, you remind me a lot of someone from a religious debate board I used to post on named "CP".

Ironically, though the method of argument was nearly identical, it turns out he was arrested for molesting underage girls IRL, so we added him to our block list and started calling him "Captain Paedophile".

15?

I think you're giving far too much credit. I was personally thinking single-digit age, towards the upper end of that bracket at best.

The Joystiq article is much funnier. Includes a picture of toddler avs and prim pushchairs with the article.

As revolting as your suggestion that the people that asked the questions are working for other companies?

More. Much, much more.

ummmmm thisis alittle strange because he was told that there was.....Oh well

I mean, the guy REPORTED that none had been directly found. That would be the fact that he could report, that he could find no one who had directly seen it actually occuring.

The article wasn't bad, could have been a lot worse given the subject matter...

Amazing how there's so little evidence presented of sexual age play taking place given that this is such a 'big' problems that is discussed 'endlessly' on the forums. Pitchforks and torches anyone? I'll meet y'all at the lynching tree!

Well, I don't know how surprising it is. I have never seen anyone of any visual age actually copulating or anything. Course I know they surely must - what else are those sex balls for? lol

More likely that the writer got emotionally into the concept because of what he was told by emotionally charged people from SL, then got there, found pretty much the child clothing stores and thats it, and had to write SOMETHING before his editor had his nuts in a handbag.

I am just thankful that so far the damage they have caused has been limited.

I really doubt that, Selador. I met one of these people when he lived on Azure Islands, which I think was shortly after he joined, and he lived there a long time.

I spoke with him a while on an occasion or two, a very friendly and nice person, with no agenda at all except to enjoy SL, build things, etc. I read his profile, as I do with everyone new I meet at any length, etc. There was nothing in any of that to conclude now anything but it simply being a matter of someone with a strong opinion and principled stance against this sort of role play once he discovered it. And that opinion, as I have been saying, is far from unusual.

The final section related to potential sanctions etc. was troubling. I would not want to see LL impose some kind of rule banning child avs or restricting the options we have at the moment because of some moral panic on the back of not much evidence at all. (Just for the record I don't have a child av, don't want to play one and I find them slightly creepy. That said, I don't want to restrict other's rights to role play kids just because I don't get it).

As endlessly hashed over in other threads, I don't see how the Lindens could prevent child Avs because defining child Avs would be an almost impossible task. What makes an Av a child? short, flat chested (for girls), shirley temple torus hair, ruffles, choo-choo pjs?

I've been in SL a long time. I've seen a lot of things. I've seen a 20 meter high dragon engaged in sex with a rabbit. In all that time, I've never seen an adult avatar having sex with a child avatar. From the sounds of the story, very, very few ever have.

This is a complete non-issue. Great job, aEoLuS on contacting a news organization to raise your hysteria level even higher. Get a life.

if someone calls my 3'10" av a 'av child porn', or whatever the buzzword is now, they are gonna bite off much more than they can chew :) So until you can specifically define a av as being a child, which is impossible, it's all about some people trying to define SL to what they want, nothing more.
