Im just thinking out loud basically here and just want other peoples reflections..
Spending time online vs in real life... Do you think it stunts your development as a human being? On the flipside of that a blind person can't see who they are talking to but they can still build lasting relationships like anyone else.. So you don't have to see the person.. I have a friend that is a quad so he doesn't get around a whole lot so we talk more on the phone... so being in the phsyical space of another doesn't establish friendships... So that would bring to me the fact that friendship and relationships (not intimate ones) are capable of being made online..
But what about what makes you you, what about your health, your quality of life? oh well.. one of those things that always bother me.. :/

Good points. I think being online is fun everyone has their own reasons but what is a good fact is we all need to take a break sometime... not just second life but net in general, its fun its useful ect.. but you have to be in the real world sometimes.. We are human and can not literally live online, as much as most of us would like too... lol From: VolatileWhimsy Bu Im just thinking out loud basically here and just want other peoples reflections.. A simulation like SecondLife - to me, a graphic Designer in RL - is an artists dream come true online vehicle. Never had I thought there would be something online that I can do what I wanted and build and make $$. As a gamer at heart from the very first 'pong' game, I truely believe online games/simulations keeps ones mind active as compared to mindless watching TV with no interaction but be entertained by something that has no tangibly but to experience someone elses 'art'. (And alot of TV is far from 'art'). There are many studies out there that show that online interaction activities including games are very beneficial in keeping ones mind alert and creative. The biggest problem - that seems to be the problem of those who do not understand online activity or who see the computer as some sort of demon taking peoples lives away - is they bitch that its an anti social activity. (Which in SL or any other MMRPG is far from true)> Notice that those people are the ones who watch TV alot...lol. For those who have phyisical impairments - any online experience has to benefit them from the boredom or agony of there RL restrictions. SL provides the omness to be a full person in a virtual world - and IMHO, there can be nothing wrong with that. But - with any hobbie or personal interest - one should not let their physical situation get too absorbed. You can get fat playing SL or any other online game - just like you can get fat just watching TV and DVDs. Just thinking outloud too...

SL is like major break for me lol I go to school and am currentley doing an internship at my uncle's firm, put my RL on top of that sweetie and when I'm home and not passed the hell out I love to come on SL and play lol.. Some people take the game a little more seriously than others but not me really.. I mean Ive made some amazing friends and it's a nice change from the hecticness of life ((If that's even a word lol)) to sit at the computer and play

You can get fat playing SL or any other online game - just like you can get fat just watching TV and DVDs. Just thinking outloud too... its better to think outloud, its food for the mind... The only draw backs I can see are the physical ones... and the ones were people might disassociate themselves from those around them.. Which is completley unhealthy not to mention rude. I don't think online is antisocial at all.. I think it is a social medium just like the bars or the clubs in real life... People get a chance to interact in a way that would make them nervous in real life.. But I wonder if it causes problems with actual interaction by hindering it since there is no safety net or if it helps aleeve their fears whith actual interaction... I bet its probably half and half.. people tend to have a predisposition towards certain behaviors anyways... So my next question is maybe what about the "spiritual" side of it.. Is it helped at all, or is it hindered.. Possibly helped by exposure of other cultures and learning to accept what they previously wouldn't before.. But what is the "moral" compass on sl, what is the norms and what is not accepted? oh well i need a pedicure too

Hey, I do my nails too *brings out swiss army knife* Online interaction is like bars in the sense that you can't see or hear the people you're with. you: "WHAT DO YOU THINK?" friend: "WHAT DO I DRINK?" you: "... YOU ... THINK!" friend: "I STINK?!" The exception is that we can still communicate by typing and not get deaf or drunk.

Nah. My nails are very healthy. All I need is to file down the front edges once in a while ... and seriously, I use my S.A.Knife for that.

From: VolatileWhimsy Bu omg don't use a knife on your nails!!! Who's using a knife? My S.A.Knife has a very good file. (It has 2 knives, two-sided file and saw combo, large-tooth saw, scissors, awl, corkscrew, toothpick, tweezers, magnifying glass, 2 screwdrivers, can opener, bottle opener, fish descaler, and ruler) I use the large-tooth saw to pick my teeth ... kidding.
