It doesn't have to be spelled out. Lots of people try to get 'around the TOS' by claiming what they did didn't violate the very letter of the TOS.

Fact is, SL is a privately owned enterprise, and LL can kick whoever they want, for whatever reason.

They obviously felt that you were causing a disturbance.

I don't think a one hour timeout is harsh. You probably annoyed the wrong Linden after a hard day of dealing with troublemakers.

The real problem is this is merely another example of the inconsistency with which LL f***s with residents, administers its policies, favors some over others and metes out "discipline".

Sorry, this or a similar "enforcement" could have been predicted... if not this time, then next, or the one after that... It was bound to happen.

Again, what would you have as an alternative. A townhall where everyone can shout out whatever they want, as often as they want?

michi can only see on one level, he can't understand what the problem really is

if this was enforced regularly and not selectively, I would understand completely

and sure LL is a private company. just another reason they won't make another dime off me

I think you highlighted onthe wrong part of my argument, whether they warn or not (Although they really should) The severity of the punishment worries me, banning is too severe for something that wasn't really that worthy of a grid-wide ban.

Sim/parcel ban is perfect in these instances, but eh, I think they're getting a bit overzealous with that trigger finger recently.

like the last town hall?

the one where Philip ignored mine and others legit questions posted or asked appropriately in favor of questions screamed out?

consistency would be admirable as well

I'm not getting into whether it's right or wrong in this instance. My point was it was inconsistent. That very inconsistency makes me wary of dealing with LL as a single entity or any individual Linden. If I have to worry about whether he/she "got some" last night, had a bad day today, or didn't get any sleep during the daily siesta, then any expectation I have for "fairness" is non-existent before it's even thought of.

its not like i called on skype and said "babba boey"

that would disrupt an audio event

I was referring to LL's response.

OTOH, had I been where you were when you did that, personally I'd have found it distracting. but I wasn't there, so what you did didn't affect me in anyway.

being a distraction for text in an audio chat makes as much sense as if Taco's sign would have been considered a distraction

There is no "rule" in any society that people have to be polite. But it is generally expected. You didn't break a rule, no. You were just rude. You showed bad manners. There is a time and place for things and that was the wrong time and place for being silly, you got smacked into the corner for it.

As for "well they let people did it before so I should be able to do it now" (paraphrased), perhaps someone realized letting people do it before was a mistake maybe ?? People are inconsistent sometimes, they change their minds about things. Frankly no town hall anywhere would work properly if everyone were allowed to just shout out anything they want. Have you ever been in a classroom or a business meeting or a church. There are simply some places where being silly and joking around has to be kept at a minimum.

You weren't a distraction for text, you were a distraction for Phillip, therefore... off to the corner for you.

This thread discusses the repercussions of an event ending with a temporary banishment from the grid. This matter should not be discussed in the forums but instead should be taken up with Linden Labs directly. As such this thread is:
