Websense is a bunch of cockbites.

Hey, if someone calls you "redneck barbie" does that make you white or does it make them insane? ;)

Aww, Eboni. :(

Is it cold? Grab a fresh garlic clove, crush it, wrap it in paper towel, moisten the paper towel with tap water and shove garlic in your cheek.

It'll burn like hell, but if you drink water it's not so bad. Leave it for ten minutes and you'll see an improvement by morning. :)

What Second Life is for *ME* is based upon my perception of it.. not wikipedia, not websense, not even Philip Linden, and certainly not any other player.

It is to me what it is to me - and what it is to you may be something different.

So... if to me it is like a game - then to me its a game. If to Philip its a monetarizing platform or whatever tonguetwisting term they use this week, thats what it is to him.

It's up to me how I view the world, not anyone else.

To some, its a game.. to others it isn't.

We will never get 100% agreement and I would never try to..it'd be as much an effor tin futility as getting a certian parasitic legend to stop selling freebies.

Just saying its just a game is not enough? hu? What you want a whole book written about it? ........... You think too much.
I enjoy this game based on its being a game. I don`t see my rl face on that avie. Hence its a game..... :)

Don't most games have levels, high-scores, and winners? Back when I started SL, it had these things. Since then they've all disappeared as SL has evolved into a platform. It tends to appeal to the crowd that likes computer games, shares some of the same technology, and has games within it... but its not a game, per se.

SL is no more a game than the forums, IRC or the web. Good thing I'm winning the forums!

Why are RL businesses using it for trianing if its a game? Why is the real-life Jack Bauer folks uses it to train people how to react to a biohazard? What about the sims Response and Brigadoon? I'd say the workorders being trained and families being helped might be a tad offended by your flame attempt. Oh yeah, but that was the point, wasn't it?

Regards,

-Flip

SL can't be considered a real platform until things like permissions and technical issues are resolved. You can't create binding contacts with anonymous people and the current TOS says "bend over and take it like a man" if something goes wrong. The majority of businesses, at least every Vice President I have ever worked for likes to have someone to hold accountable and take to court when things go wrong. SL and LL does not offer these options, the "platform" is not primetime and ready for business.

Just because new technology is adopted doesn't mean it is the best option. A ton of corporations adopted SAP only to find it really didn’t meet their business needs and millions of dollars later, they dropped it.

Anyway this thread was not mean for serious debate. I just wanted to point out I can't access forums from work because secondlife.com is blocked as a gaming site.

If Bill Gates and Steve Jobs come together to sign an agreement decreeing that SL is a game, it is still not a game.

For hundreds of years, the Catholic Church said the world was flat, and to say otherwise was a crime punishable by death. They were wrong, too.

Second Life is what you make of it. It is a game to some people. To other people, it is a training tool. For others, it is a source of income. It is definitely a different experience for everyone.

If Bill Gates and Steve Jobs come together to sign an agreement decreeing that SL is a platform, it is still not relevant. :D

If you can't allow that SL varies depending upon the user, you'd have to go with the majority which is the game/entertainment sector. I'm reminded of Mel Brokks' The Producers. In spite of making an awful production for a tax write off, the audience found it so bad as to be funny and it was a moneymaking hit. LL steadfastedly pursues the platform but many more people use it as a game/entertainment. Does the creater define it or is it defined by it's usage?
