From: Tren Neva Well, it really depends if they dawn the naughty parts or not. Some people just don't much care for animal cocks or other parts in their peripheral, specially since they take up a new... apperance/meaning when placed on something or in areas some people would dub anatomically incorrect. It doesn't matter whether someone is wearing SL clothes or not; you're going to see any prim genitalia they might be wearing unless they make it invisible (or at least cover it with other prims).

I have basically the same reaction to a naked furry with "bits" that I have to a naked human -- that is, my reaction is based on the relative appropriateness of where they've decided to show up in the buff. Curiously, however, I think my reaction to a naked human without "bits" would be much more negative (assuming the situation isn't really appropriate) than my reaction to a naked furry without them. I suppose we can thank cartoons for that. As an aside, I have a decidedly negative (although I don't express it) reaction to the furries who insist on having ridiculous "bits," such as breasts the size of beanbag chairs. My inward reaction to them is roughly the same as my inward reaction to someone with a human av who just randomly jumbles sliders in order to get a revolting result.

Transparent invisibility is enough. Sure, if I turn on highlight transparent, I'm going to see someone's inactive-but-ready Mr. Happy, but he (mercifully) goes away again when I turn it back off. That's a lot different from someone running around with it just waving around in plain view.

Well it's implied that they will most likely won't be wearing a visible penis outside of their jeans. If I go around with transparancy on, then shame on me.

From: Shirley Meiji I think clothes look silly on furries. And besides, why wear a special avatar if you're just going to cover it up? Same reasons humans wear clothing on SL. Not to shield from the cold, but simply to look more appealing. At least, that's why I wear clothing, being a fox... I like to keep things hidden, keep people guessing. Not much fun in recieving a gift unwrapped, right? ^.~ Aside from that, to blend in more with clothed people. One does stand out as a furry among humans, but a lot more as a naked furry among humans. *shrugs* I guess the reasons why differ from person to person...

Hm. I think the discussion has strayed a little. The OP *was* talking about nudity with the bits attached. I guess I pretty much assumed that a naked and completely featureless furry would be unoffensive to nearly everyone, maybe that was wrong. Of course, I wouldn't assume *nobody* would be offended, just very few.
Outrageously huge genitals aside, is there the same ridicule/squick factor when they show up naked and equipped? More revolting? Less?

I think bits out on ANY avatar is TOO much information to see - Furry, human, robot, if you have things flipping and flopping about down there.. ppl are probably gonna be disturbed by it.

From: Aodhan McDunnough One reason is that furry or not you're still human. We're used to seeing naked animals (because they are) however due to cultural upbringing we are not comfortable being naked in front of other humans. We'd be comfortable naked around our pets but not when we have visitors. Our race is still human and we have conditioned reactions to being human and being with humans. You being a furry does not override everything. We know our pets are not judging us on our nudity, but other humans are. LOL I'm not even comfertable naked around my dog. O.o And i'm a furry. He has eyes, he can see, and a brain (though it doesnt comprehend the difference).

From: Jopsy Pendragon Holding down the 'alt' key causes some active objects to become visible in a ghostly red color. I use the 'alt' key when moving my camera view around often. Quite a few non-fury types wear invsibile 'bits' out in public. I get that awkward feeling like when you notice someone's fly is open. I want to tell them.... but at the same time pretend likeI didn't see anything. Honestly, if it's a mature sim who cares... unless you're a shaved furry? A lot of canine furries have red members. Sometimes i forget i have show invisable turned on.

naked nudity

Perhaps, this being a simulator, what is happening is that perhaps fewer people care about nudity than we really think, perhaps the simulator is showing it.
Of course here we're all rather vain and beautiful with all the bits the right size which includes tummy sizes and all the rest, would we be as happy about it if we were all frumpy?
I saw a documentary years ago on a place called Nimbin, which is a hippy community in Australia.
In one scene, a fellow walked down the street naked and entered a shop to buy things.
Really, nudity isn't wrong, it doesn't bother me if someone wants to be nude, and I gather that if I saw it regularly then I wouldn't care much... it's what people are doing while being nude... are they just walking the dog, sunbathing, talking to a neighbour.. clipping a hedge [ow!]... or are they waving it around and hollering like a cowboy at the ladies, mentioning something about horses? or peeing openly in the gutter like some drunk?
Sex is only made disgusting by certain perceptions too... if we were to sit at the table and stuff spaghetti into our faces with sauce dripping down our chins then just the act of eating would be though of as disgusting.
Imagine if noses had been as culturally wrong as genitals, but genitals were considered as nice as a nose is.
No g-rated cartoon character would possess a snoz! There's be no scooby sniffing around for suspect ghosties, and nobody on TV would dare sneeze.
We'd all wear some kind of weird face bra to hide our "naughty bit" which would have about 100 dirty slang terms.
Men would sneak into certain shops and buy magazines of womens faces... Or Mens faces if they were gay.
I think animals are much more happy with their bodies and who they are... I wish I had fur.

In RL, people will Sit around their personal Space in the Nude, (After a shower or such) and be completely comfortable, but if the Phone rings, they will Cover up before answering Even though the person on the other end of the Line Cannot See them. We have odd perceptions regarding Personal space, Intimacy, and Vulnerability. With other Furried, you are aware, and comfortable of the fact that you share a common perception of yourselves as animals in their Natural state, and there is nothing "provokative" about it. But being with a Human, clothed or No, their perception of your Nudity, and it's Inferences Falls into a different Frame of reference. You feel Vulnerable, exposed, and it's All because of the Human perception of Nudity over the Animal.
I wonder, Opinions fom Furries here,, Do you Feel your Furry Form acts as a sort of emotional Armor against Unwanted or Uncomfortable Attentions? Does being Furry give you an extra layer of defence against Feeling Vulnerable? I'm not suggesting it's your Sole reason for being Furry, I'm wondering if this is a fringe benefit?
Angel.

Angelique, the emotional armour thing never ocurred to me. I'm always a furry / scaley in SL and I'm completely comfortable around humans.

From: Aldo Stern You know, for some reason, this is making me think that maybe I should get pants for my rl house cats. I had thought for a while about making them kitty-sized lederhosen, but their shoulders really aren't shaped right to hold up the suspenders, and you know, cats really don't like wearing hats, and the lederhosen outfits just aren't complete without the little tyrolean hats, and even if they would wear them, the cats would probably attack the little hairy tassel thingees on each other's hats, and they'd probably eventually eat them and then throw up, and man, I sure hate cleaning up cat barf.....
...I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Bonus points for 'lederhosen' and your amazing entertainment value.

Angelique, there's not a singular correct answer for this. Many use it as a way to express their ideal selves, whether that literally includes the fur or not. Others just use it as a cute way to describe themselves, and don't really have any other interest in it. It's not quite for the purpose of deflecting attention, since it tends to attract more. (sometimes *that* is the wearer's main reason)
You are basically correct though. Yes, it can also be a way to hide your true self behind something you're more comfortable showing the world. The reasons for someone wearing that form are always varied, so it's hard to tell what to expect from them.

From: Angelique LaFollette Opinions fom Furries here,, Do you Feel your Furry Form acts as a sort of emotional Armor against Unwanted or Uncomfortable Attentions? HAHAHAhoh hoh. okay. yeah. Right. Sorry. Maybe if you replaced 'armor' with 'magnet' and 'against' with 'for'. There's not much of a fringe benefit to anything that stands out on SL, oddly enough. If you're not a "sexy girl in a little black dress" or a "buff guy with no shirt on and tattoos", you're pretty much outside the fence in SL these days. From: Syrrh Hurnung You are basically correct though. Yes, it can also be a way to hide your true self behind something you're more comfortable showing the world. So is dressing up like a gangster, making yourself thinner than you are in RL, wearing SL clothes you couldn't afford in RL, and making yourself really tall and built.

From: Shirley Meiji I think clothes look silly on furries. And besides, why wear a special avatar if you're just going to cover it up? I'm a part time furry and my fiance wanted to get an AV so she could match me on our romps, she said the same thing, couldn't understand why if you were wearing fur that you had to wear clothing as well. I tried to explain the psychology of it all, failed miserably, then just said "Baby you are hot human or fur, you run around naked and the furverts are going to jump on you yelling YIFF YIFF YIFF" That got a pair of pants on her post haste....

From: CrystalShard Foo Okay, allow me to put it this way:
If my pet cat would ever start walking on his two back feet, using his arms to manipulate tools, speak my language and learn how to open his cans of cat-food by himself?
I'd sure as hell make him put some pants on. Miss Foo, I agree with you on this...but knowing my cats, if they got to the point you describe, I would also assume they could master the use of the internet and my credit cards--so if UPS unexpectedly delivers several gross of kitty toys and "Pounce" brand treats that I don't recall ordering, I think we're all in trouble. Anyway, I don't necessarily agree with some of the folks who have argued here that clothing on our furred brothers and sisters looks "silly." Unless of course it's silly clothing to begin with. Come to think of it, I can think of some humanish avies that look pretty silly in their sartorial choices--but hey that's just my opinion. But seriously, I happen to think that some clothing choices look dadburn good on furred folk--for example the furred gents in Caledon look really sharp with their array of capes, vests and ties, top hats and such. I'm afraid, in fact, that most of them have much better fashion sense than I do. And yes, with nudity, context is everything. I recall a number of years ago we were vactioning on Fire Island and were walking near one of the towns, maybe 1/8th of a mile fromt he beach. Along comes a gentleman, with nary a stitch, walking from his house down the street to go for a swim. Though most people there usually waited until they got to the beach before they took off their clothes to swim, it seemed in that context that this individual's state was nothing that made anyone uncomfortable--well, except I couldn't help wonder where he kept his house key, and I do confess that may have caused me a little bit of discomfort considering the possibilities.....

If you ever see me naked, then your intruding in a private moment, cuz i'm usually always wearing this. http://wolfeedarkfang.furrynet.com/images/YiffyYaffle/yaffle_002.jpg ^^ I do enjoy running around without clothes but even though furry nudity can get away with being in PG sims, i still choose to wear clothes.
