I remember receiving SWG after it was released, waiting excited for it to finish installing and start delving and exploring a universe we all came to love from George lucas's creations.

I was amazed at first, so much to see, so much to learn and so much to do.

It was like being with a first love.

This was a dream of so many people, to play in a mmorpg that recreated Star Wars. Just saying that name brings up so many images of childhood. The films bursting onto the screens, how many hear the intro music and still feel butterflies? I still do.

So here it was, Star Wars Galaxies.

The game became a living, breathing community. Friendships were made, enemys were fought.

The game was alive. Whether hunting, relaxing in the cantinas. You felt you were part of smoething special. (this was before 90% of the game became soloable due to overpowered buffs).

Some of my best memories are of dancing with my first guild in Bestine cantina, the conversations we had, IC or OOC kept me entertained for hours.

Also hunting on Dath with guild, full 20 needed to kill the enraged rancors, only buffs we used were smuggler buffs (spices) Which always ran out at the worst possible time :D

So plan was clear them from the lair, tap lair once and use pets to tank them one at a time. Normally one of 2 things happened, or many times both :D People wouldnt stop tapping the lair so loads of rancors appeared to eat the group just as teh smuggler buffs where wearing off, or a NS patrol decided to see what all the noise was.

I used to be in a guild on Euro chimera called EASY, we were attacked pretty much every day fo about 3-4 months. most amazing time ive ever spent in a MMORPG. It brought us all very close as friends, but due to the promised combat fix that was delayed due to the first expansion JTL. Which broke the guild and the majority left.

Bare with me, ive nearly finished with this wall of text!

I did the Holo grind to unlock Jedi, unlocked on 29th proffession, squad leader.
That nearly broke me. especially as SOE insisted the did not increase the amount of silents needed to unlock, then at a later date admit they did.

SOE lied constantly to there customers. Made promises they never delivered, just kept pushing it back and back until was replaced by something else.

SOE failed, they have destroyed what was the most amazing experience 1000s of people have ever had on a online game.

I miss the community because we were all brought together by one thing, whether you liked or disliked the player, our love of the Star Wars story.

The only place where SWG exists for me now, is in my heart.

on a side note, it looks like you guys had a lot of fun in this world -- not just shoot em up. Can someone explain what exactly made it go tits up?

That is *very* clever! :)

Personally, I hope with a massive wave of SWGers we'll see SWG sims spread like the Gorean sims. It would be awesome to be able to have a big block of SWG sims to hang out in.

I miss SWG too, was pre-cu I jedi, and dancer/musican on gorath and farstar, and in the chrismas crawl video !! ..

miss swg too, but what i hear from friends who stayed since the NGE there isnt good, nor fine.

I think SOE/LA showed very precisly how fast a concern can destroy a nice game and community.

I remember...

I remember when the path to becoming a Jedi was a complete mystery...

I remember when Nunas were a creature to be feared and respected...

I remember when Entertainers would talk back to you when you were in the cantina...

I remember waiting for 9 minutes and 50 seconds because I just missed the shuttle...

I remember being scared of being scaned by a stormtrooper...

I remember how cool I felt when I got my swoop...

I remember being amazed by the sheer beauty of the landscape of Naboo...

I remember a feeling of pride and accomplishment when I finally got the the tittle "Master" next to my Marksman tittle...

I remember so many good, kind, crazy, amazing people that were on my friends list...

I remember crying when I sent out my "Im leaving" email to my guild...

SWG was my first MMO... nothing will ever compare to it.

Thanks for the post and the link to the videos... brings back some really great memories.
