A while back...actually a long time ago...there was a game in our lives that brought us joy and pain and all kinds of things. Since then that game has since been handed to the newbies because certain companies feel it is "the way to go". Well heres the facts...no one wanted it and if you look at the forums they still complain about it. So even though this video focuses on Commando, I feel it sums up alot of peoples feelings about what they have done to a wonderful game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TYTRl16rqA

Enjoy!

Breanna

P.S.
Im sorry Lindens if this is in the wrong area, but its something that was on my mind and I wanted those who have played to see it.

I got disgusted with how SWG was treating entertainers long before the combat changes basically killed the game, so I took my pre-afk macro Master dancer and left :( But look at it this way -- SWG's loss is SL's gain. I know of several very creative and successful people in SL who only came here after SWG fell on its butt.

One door closes, another opens.

SWG was the game that I enjoyed most before SL. I was an Master-Dancer and Master-ImageDesigner, without Macros. ha. :-)

I liked the way you could feel free, without chains of XP and Levels or craft-pattern, just like in SL now. :-)

VT, never saw the combat-changes.

I <3 Javier. He's one I was thinking about when I said that SWG's loss was SL's gain :)

Some of those vids will bring a tear to any ex-SWGers eye.

I totally agree.

http://downloads.warcry.com/swg/ccXII.mov in particular is a very well made history of all the ways SOE made the entertainers feel less and less worthy in the game. Good music too. Many SWG entertainers (I was on Bria and Chilastra) will feel touched by this video...

SWG is going the way of DAOC -- dead. In both cases because they did what they wanted instead of listening to their customers. Take heed, Lindens.

Wow, that kinda brought a tear to my eye, to remember how SWG was.... and what it became.

I played SWG through early closed beta til June or July 2004 (when I discovered SL). I was a Master Musician/Dancer/Politician.

I still smile/wince to recall all the time I spent to master those professions (without macros) so that the town I was mayor of could have a Cantina and Theater. I remember the thrill of placing the cantina and seeing it be built, and all the fun of decorating (and redecorating over and over) the interior.

Wow, those were good times, and it really makes me sad to think about how badly Sony screwed it up. :(

LL, please don't fuck up SL the way Sony screwed SWG.

The Windspire Entertainment SWG videos were great too. More of those here: http://swvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Movies.List&category_select_id=2

Baby got back and Yatta remain amongst my favourites. Fett's Vette was also very nicely done.

I made one SWG video too. Not in the same league as Javier or Windspire but it was made from footage taken at CCVIII and informal Bria Entertainers hanging out sessions and I still have a soft spot for it. If you are in the mood for more SWG nostalgia, have a look here: http://www.gasperazzo.net/briadiscotheque.html (better download as my host can't handle the streaming bandwidth).

A few years ago i played SWG as a white wookiee named SnowBeast on the Tempus Server. I was in a strong guild with its own city on a low populated planet (Talus). I was happy with the game back then. I had a really powerful sword and good armor. I was able to take out a imp bases in a few hits and kill the guards in 1 hit each. Eventually i got tired of the game and wanted to quit.

I had a pet jax, a r2d2, swoop speeder, and a ridable bird. After i quit, a few years later i came back to try it again only to find that i was unable to wear my armor or use my sword anymore. Not only that but i couldn't walk around in any city without troopers killing me on sight. That never happened to me before. I was very frustrated with the changes to the game and imediatly quit again.

So my final word is, the game used to be cool now it just SUCKS. :p

For me, it was the conflict I saw between Sony's (read: Koster's) original premise of being able to advance in the game without combat and the outcry by combat players for more perks for fighters. The entertainer professions (dancer, musician) were something of a groundbreaker for a combat/levelling MMOG but initially our only purpose was to entertain fighters while they waited out rez effects and fatigue. We pressured Sony to let us buff our group with our music and dances so that we had a positive value to the combat players and at that point I felt that maybe this could all go somewhere.

Then the pressure on Sony to let more players become Jedi took over. The advancement model they invoked required you to master a number of unrelated professions in turn (abandoning one as you moved to another). Naturally, they included musician and dancer in those random paths so we ended up with cantinas full of aspiring Jedis who had NO interest in entertaining and who used the SWG macro loop tool to remain in world, unattended, while they auto-levelled their skills. Before you knew it, most cantinas had more afk macroers than they did real entertainers.

That's when I left. The combat changes came after I quit, but most of the gamers' group I hang with also left SWG when the changes seriously skewed the game even more. The blame rests squarely on Sony's shoulders.

I was a commando when SWG was first released.

Seen plenty of games with "the fix that will never come," but never one so blatantly needed.

I played SWG on Lowca. I had a pre afk Master Dancer/Master Image Designer and a Master Teras Kasi/Master Doc.

I started SWG on release. I played for two years. I am still amazed at how Sony managed to give us only a minimum of content in a world that should have been rich in that commodity due to the storyline they had right in front of their faces.

I tried to restart it a few months ago, hoping that it had changed. Well, it had. Most certainly not for the better though. Logging on to my girl and being prompted to choose a profession. I was shocked.

All that work I did to Master and now I'm supposed to start over. I don't think so. I promptly canceled my account again and let it RIP.

I take it you didn't go all the way through the process? Had you finished, your master dancer/entertainer could have chosen Entertainer and been level 90 (maxed) in the class instantly. :) Renewed my account, my master artisan/master droid engineer/weaponsmith selected trader and was instantly max level with all the level-based items and skills...I can make all the same items (and new ones) I could before.

Restarted my unfinished scout/creature handler (RIP, CH) and selected commando. My XP converted and I was a level 22 commando. So you haven't lost anything on existing characters, they convert based on how far you were towards mastering the profs you were in. :) (Warning - do not use the respec tool....that resets your profession to L1 in the new profession).

I came to SL from SWG. I did the free trial SWG offered several weeks ago and was logged in for about five minutes before concluding the game was essentially dead.

I was humored to see Thunderheart -- SWG's own Torley (a regular user elevated to the development team essentially in the role of an evangelist) -- still going at it, attempting in vain to convince everyone the changes are good ones.

Oh man. Those videos make me miss SWG...at least what it was back when I had my Twi'lek dancer. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. ;_; (Though I have to confess I was always an Imperial. :D )

I really did enjoy SWG before Sony botched it all up. :(

SWG was my MMORPG for a long while. I stuck through the combat upgrade and the New Game Enhancements. But as time went on I started liking the game less and less as they changed more things. I was a Master Ranger which was a hard profession to play, and with the NGE that profession ceased to exist.

So I started looking for another MMO to play. I like the matrix, so I ordered Matrix Online which Sony also runs. I had to order the CDs off the internet, and waiting for them to arrive I thought I would give this Second Life thing a try.

I have yet to install Matrix Online.

But with SWG the game as it is now is not the game I played.
