I am getting extremely irritated with these no payment info noobs that keep griefing a few zones that i currently do security for, to the point where im about ready to go postal on the next few that come harassing, shooting, caging, etc at people in the casino, or at me.
Who else feels this way about these new people that think they own the land of SL?

Perhaps they are not just newcomers? (Alts, maybe?) So sorry that you're being griefed so frequently.

I would like to think they are just new people, though it would be the greatest way to grief and get away with it (using an alt), however i think SL really needs to put registrations back on requiring payment info... I dont like this free signup, and lately with my security jobs, and peacekeeping jobs, things have gotten 60% worse then they were before this open free memberships came... Now its just getting nuts.

I'll be grateful when we have LSL functions to detect account status on an avatar. Please keep in mind though that although a lot of current greifing is done by unverified newbs (alts), its not a high percentage of the TOTAL number of unverified newbs (non alts) that are greifers.

Helping the quality new people
07-01-2006 07:13
The best advice for the intelligent and responsible new person is to get verified. In the near future once hardware ID becomes active the only advantate to the unverified will be diminished capacity. The only ones that will want to remain unverified are the underage. Having come to this conclusion, I created some high quality CGI signage which is intended as a public service/artistic promotion to advise and encourage new people to Get Verified. At this point is the best alternative for anyone that does not want to be confused with a troublemaker or minor and often times both. The best thing WE can do is educate the responsible new people to Get Verified asap. In addition once the ability to ban the unverified/underage from mature establishments is enabled it is a great PR move to clearly state that, that will be the case. I think 100L is an extremly reasonable price. Smiles and waves, end.

From: onionpencil Musashi only 60% worse? at the shelter we've gone from maybe one ban a month to 3-10 a day. yeah.. it's frustrating. I feel your pain onion. It's gone from about 1-2 a month to 1-2 per day since 6/6, and some days it's hit 6 or 8 bans for my group. You're right, in that the Shelter can't ban unverifieds and still function. However, if LL follows through on their thought processes with this you will be able to show new people how to mute push scripts, and over the long term LL's hardware identification process ought to narrow the field. Someone else said it, possibly in another thread, and it's true -- day-old griefers are alts for the most part. You don't come into SL on day one and know how to fly, maneuver your camera, and use griefer scripts. It's the altgriefers we want to be rid of more than anyone.

I haven't banned anyone on my land recently, but that's because a) it's not popular and b) I'm rarely there. I am sick of having griefing happening in many of the popular places, and feel for those who are doing their best to work against it.

*moans and wrings hands a lil* I hope that when the new group tools come online, the shelter's land can become group owned. You can then set up a large number of regulars with ban/unban access, and thus be equipped to deal with griefers quickly and efficiently. I hope also that the ban list length limit is raised to something more like 500, and that LL adds a button on the ban tab to clear the list of all accounts which don't exist anymore or are permbanned. I hope this helps you!

<3 <3 <3 I'd settle for a ban list of 128 right now, but 500 would be very nice.

There are a number of groups I'd preemptively ban if it were possible. And I know that people would yell and scream about this being unfair...but seriously, there's nothing at all wrong with looking at the company hat someone chooses to keep, and saying, "Nope, don't want 'em here."

People who don't think using it is fair, don't have to use it. And people who think other people who use it are unfair meanie bastards, don't have to visit our lands and be soiled by our vile taint. Choice is a great thing.

i was skimming though the forums, and when i came across this topic i felt i needed to post.
Im a little annoyed at the fact that ya'll want to ban ALL unverified people, not all of us are underage...i myself happen to be 25 years old. I just want to play the game for a bit before i decide to pay for it. I have been playing expensive RPGs for years, and for once id like to try one for free first.
I don't know about anyone else here...but i dont have a ton of money to throw around on games ( hence the reason im on secondlife) so dont condemn me for it.

All it does is associate a CC with your account, thus verifying that you are apparently who you claim to be. I'm pretty sure you have a CC or paypal or some sort of payment system that could be used for this purpose, since you have been playing many RPG's for several years...

Interesting, I was at a club this week that was greifed by someone setting off a particle generator that rezzed hundreds of large images of the little guy you have used as your icon. It that from the Mario Brothers game?

I still like the idea someone had a while back..that if you grief on your alt, that your entire IP should be banned. So if you screw up on your alt, your main goes as well. That would cut down on people griefing.

yeah.. it's frustrating. The awesome thing is, those 3-10 people per day are actually probably only 1 or 2 people. So, now, our "50 person ban list" is more like... 8 people.

That would cut down on people griefing. Banning by IP only works for people with static IP addresses. They are easy to change normally. SL currently makes a hardware hash and can ban griefers by individual machine.
