After reading all the threads about everything people think is screwed up about SL, and about how SL is doomed... I've discovered what I hate about SL.
I hate the forums.
Maybe you've noticed that I post less and less. It's not because I'm not reading the forums, because I do read them... ALL of them. I read them for the same reason I read the Wall Street Journal when I was in the stock market. Business reasons.
And I often cull valuable information from them, and sometimes the off-topic posts will gie me a much needed mid-day chuckle.
But all in all I'm exhausted.
I'm tired of economic hyperbole from those who obviously have never grasped the most fundamental principals of economics. And I mean the stuff you learn in High School.
I'm tired of multi-million threads on topics where one or two would be MORE than enough.
I'm tired of trying to read unintelligable posts by those who English is their first language.
I'm tired of reading the rants and whines of people who think that their experience is the only gauge of what is true, right, proper, and real. Part of maturity is discovering that yours is not the ONE TRUE WAY... and letting other people have their opinions, pleasures, and ways of doing things - especially when it doesn't impact you.
Oddly, the bickering itself doesn't bother me. And if you call me a c*nt, well then I will probably laugh, or figure that you're Siggy's alt. Rough and tumble free speach doesn't scare me so long as there is some fundamental intelligence underneath it. I want to argue ideas, not air.
All that said, I still love SL, the freedom of expression, the ability I have to interact with people from around the globe. I am sometimes bored, but I expect to amuse myself.

I have to say I totally agree with you Surreal. I gave up even looking much at the forums anymore, infact I only stumble in and out when i'm at a lose end at work, or to look at new products. My climb to 10k posts is going to be a long assed haul *sigh* .

I actually enjoyed the forums far more back when they were more footloose and wild westy. You never knew what drama, humor, or thoughtfulness would appear hour by hour. There was still plenty of whining, still plenty of spam topics and plenty of "i'm an expert" type posts, but it was still a much funner and, I think, more informative place. Now it takes me 5 minutes to read all posts of interest to me, when it used to take me an hour.

Part of maturity is discovering that yours is not the ONE TRUE WAY... and letting other people have their opinions, pleasures, and ways of doing things - especially when it doesn't impact you. However, refusing to discuss other people's experiences is just another form of this. If I post that it's hard to get on in SL, then it's fine if you disagree with that, but when others reply with "well, I succeeded so you must be wrong" that's just making the same assumption about their views being the One True Way. I really don't post these things to wind people up; I just think it would be a valuable thing to discuss with impartical evidence, and even hope maybe I could even learn something from it that would help!

You're hoping we're going to tell you the secret to calling llSetAgentSuccess(). When that isn't delivered, you resume your meloncholy. If there were even the slightest improvement to your attitude since you began, I might take you seriously, but I think you truly enjoy not being happy.

Forums were annoying before and remain so. I still get enjoyment out of it as a break from work. However, very repetitive of late. Doesn't bother me as I've been very busy, but when work calms down in a week or so, I expect to be entertained with a wider variety of smack downs and asshattery, maybe some funny pics. I hate threads that start with "I hate...."

From: Gabe Lippmann I still get enjoyment out of it as a break from work. Seriously. I don't know what I would do to fill time when I fire up some reporting software that needs about half my attention and can't quite be left alone.

I'm sure no one noticed, but how often do you see ME anymore?
I'll be honest, I have seen the worst aspects of the human condition here. While entertaining, it's just kinda sad after a while. I come in and comment of things that are actually either fun or worth my time.
Sadly, not much of that exists here. Most of it is unmitigated whining and picking fights. I just don't see the fun in a steady diet of that anymore.

Starting a thread to tell everyone how much you hate the forums?

Try not to get too worked up about the forums. Take a deep breath and try to remember that in the scheme of things, they are about like a chipped fingernail in importance.

Surreal, and others, i couldn't agree more. these forums were once a bastion of humor and general positive experiences. then again, we've always had times where things get all serious and complain-y, anytime something new is introduced, whether it be additional or subtractional. i'm sure this will blow over eventually and we can back to being the silly goof-balls most of us are. on another note, i have some good news that may help your forum experience.. apparently, from what i understand, "colorful" language doesn't matter, it's the intent. so, you should no longer have to fear being moderated for using profanity in your posts, just don't use it to offend anyone and you'll be good to go. hopefully, even the ResMod program will be spiffed up to the point where it helps facilitate FUN forums and not just "more thumbs". but i digress, this is more about the general use of the forums, not really about the moderation thereof. it seems we're reaching the breaking point.. we're starting to see people get tired of the stuffyiness that the forums have been suffering from and starting to loosen up and be silly again.

get out of my brain In other words, yes I agree and will add to that: - people who make stupid irrelevant polls masked behind a thin veil of relevance. - people who make polls without a who the f*ck cares option - people who try to look really cool and who want to be viewed as community heros for bringing some random topic, issue etc, to everyones attention, but really are only trying to get noticed and get more attention for themselves, but disguise it as an attempt to be doing the community well. I can spot this shite a mile away. - all the stupid people. yes, stupid people irriatate me, if my cats can understand simple commands SO SHOULD YOU If you can't have something explained to you that you disagree with and NOT remotely even understand the concept. You are STUPID. - Yes, SL goes down sometimes. Get a life, we don't need 25 threads saying Is SL down? Anyone having log in problems. I could go on, but I will stop here.

Can't say I hate anything about SL. These last two years have really rocked for me <3.
I certainly like to inject my opinions about the things I believe would or would not make Second Life better. This too is the result of my love for the platform.

You are STUPID. Oh dear gawd. My cat's really are the fuzzy morons I suspected them to be. "No! Bad cat! Get off the counter! No, no! 'Get off the counter' does not mean eat the ham! Off! NO! NO! You were supposed to leave the ham on the counter! AUGH!" On second thought maybe they're smarter than I give them credit for. Anyway, on topic: Lots of folks muct come from some pretty cool forums, becasue I find these rather tame - the worst problem being so many are so easily trolled, which isn't all that big a problem. But the forums aren't SL - you don't need the forums to keep up with what's up (though they are more convenient) and I know scads who just don't bother with 'em. Or better, who stick with the acrual topic forums, which are, by'n'large, better than general and off-topic by leaps and bounds. So... *shrug* yer can take 'em or yer can leave 'em

I don't like complaining about complaining. Or complaining about complaining about complaining..... Oh, and insincerity, and puppy-beaters and phonies and some other stuff, but I lost my notes and will have to get back to you on that.

This Mutha Fucking Cocksucking cunt bitch forum rulez!!! We can see this type of post, but not skins in the new products without the 'naughty bits' showing. I'm so glad they made it so our wee wittle eyes won't be subjected to seeing naked pixels. I mean who exactly did this offened? Are there people irl who shower in their bathrobe? I'm so confused on what PG is anymore. The forums are supposedly PG. Nekkie skins can't be fully shown, but we can curse up a storm apparently as long as it isn't trashing someone. Yet in the Welcome Area which is PG, if this type of cursing was going on, the Lindens would be on the offender like white on rice. We are all adults agewise here, so why the skin censorship? Yet more confusion on how the forums work and why they are ran the way they are...

From: ZsuZsanna Raven We are all adults agewise here, so why the skin censorship? I just don't wanna worry about what people are seeing over my shoulder at work, but a little NSFW warning would suffice. And the language issue always confuses me, but specifically, "don't use certain language to offend someone"....ok, but what if the language itself is what some people find offensive, which I gather is the case for some folks. No clarification for me. Though Mulch is giving it a nice test run. I'll be watching..... I'm losing traction. I need a drink and a nice bar stool.

The water was quite muddy long before Cybin tried to raise moral for us truck drivers and sailors seemingly random application and interpretation of the rules occured long before the ResMods IMHO RE: skins there is a difference between simulated or real nudity (paintings, sculptures, art photos) vs sexually explicit nudity should be ok as we are all (supposedly) well adapted adults ok with the natural human form, so non vulgar skins shouldn't be a problem full blown ass fucking prolly shouldn't be allowed to be shown in a pg forum

Unfortunately, most Higher Ups here at work would blow a gasket if they caught sight of cartoon boobies on somebody's monitor. The Most Foul Corporate Organism is not well adapted in any sense of the phrase. I am purely concerned with my continued ability to view the forums while working.

Sorry Gabe, I am inclined to agree with ZsuZsanna on this one I think a curtosy might be NSFW in the title of threads with virtual nudity anymore really risks manipulating the demographic and/or the natural tone of the forums
