Discrimination in SL - have you experienced it?

I haven't experienced any discrimination yet (as a furry). Even the crazy weapon-wielders and sound-spammers (in other words, troublemakers) in sandboxes haven't commented on my unusually tall, bright-red haired, furry self. Those troublemakers, at least, only seem concerned with annoying everybody equally. *smirks*

Not even when I've gone exploring has anyone bothered me about my avatar. Most of my time has been spent in the sandboxes, however.

I'm not a furry but I am openly gay, I have experienced discrimination in SL as well as RL because of it. My attitude in both cases is the same; that unless I'm in physical danger I just ignore it, and let it pass. It annoyed the hell out of me, and it ruined maybe half an hour of my time, but the griefers could not get into my locked house and the prims they tried to leave on my property would of course have been returned to them soon enough anyway. Neither was I particularly upset or emotionally hurt by it; I've seen much much worse in RL.

However I believe that whether physical or emotional harm is done or not, discrimination in any form is wrong and it should be opposed. In a world where people are shaped like cats or foxes, anti-furry behaviour is effectively racism in exactly the same way as behaviour directed against black people.

Elves rock!

We need more elves!

Yeah! I'm an elf! (and not the cookie-baking, santa-helping sort). And actually, so far I've met very few others, although I've been round ElfHaven and its neighbouring sims. Where ARE all the other elves?

Some animal lover...and a future vet who hates animals and that anyone would be nuts to take their animal to for treatment.

No, he didn't hate animals. He hated people who deliberately tried to sabotage his role play.

When I went to 'Neverland' I wore the Victorian costume that was provided. When I went through the window onto the island, I wore a pirate costume. It didn't cost me anything. I suppose what it boils down to is a matter of courtesy.

Wrong thread. Thats an 18 page thread on having courtesy to the people that own the sim and leaving your sense of entitlement at the door.

My description is more apt though.

Gor sim owners asked people to use a human avatar, per sim rules. THEY PAY FOR THE SIM.

So you roleplay a griefer by having a security system on your land that you constantly remind us you pay for.

Makes sense now.

This kind of ridiculous demonization and false statement is the reason I haven't responded until now. Grow up a few years and get past middle school and I'll respond again.

I think it's a perfectly valid statement, and as you choose to turn to insults in your response it indicates to me that you have nothing to say to support your already shaky position on the issues.

I happen to be 34 next month, so I'm long past school age. Sorry to prove you wrong again.

Oh I insulted? You called me a greifer when I have never done anything of the sort. Get your facts straight. Given how you can muck up that distinction, I fail to be able to trust you on your age or much else. You might be mistaken on that, too.

Both of you shut up. Nothing anyone hates more than a couple of grown men spitting invective at eachother like kids in highschool who accidentally bumped eachother.

If yer gonna argue, argue.

There's nothing to argue.

Jonas has nothing left to support his weak argument based around paranoia, hence he resorted to personal insults in an attempt to belittle me and detract from the strength of my argument.

He repeats again that he concedes defeat by saying he is "not gonna bother" to respond further.

The community has come to its conclusion in majority against griefing via security systems, now all we need is a Linden policy change to reflect our wishes.

I don't consider the Gorean sim thing griefing by a security system, though. They could easily disallow anyone from entering their sim, instead they have rules in order to visit. *shrug* I've been bumped often by other group owned sims with security lines that spring up without knowing what is coming because I was flying. And the pleasant get out you don't belong message, heh. At least with the Goreans, I know what to expect.

Although I would be pissed if I were a furry, no doubt. But if I were I wouldn't want to go into their sims. And tell them so at every opportunity, heh.
