Jolie, I just noticed you're modelling one of my shirts in your avatar pic!
Thanks! What do I owe you? *grin*

lol I didn't know you made that shirt. :p Well, I'll model it free of charge, just for you. ;) hehe

You have a table top game that is able to produce the smell of burnt ewok hair?

Lets just say someone got creative with burnt cat hair (shedded no animal was harmed) and a very realistic drawing...apparently the storytellers description wasn't enough.

Hi, just my own experience, nothing traumatic or heartwrenching:

As part of a commitment I made to one person, my avatar wears a collar. It's quite interesting to note the way some people talk to me as a result of this- whether that's being ignored, assumed to be obedient in the face of arrogance, or patronised like I'm a nine year old girl or some delicate fragile flower who needs a cuddle to feel good about herself.

I think somehow if it was a wedding ring, the reactions would be a little different!

One time I went to go look at a rental property and as I was standing there waiting a furry couple also landed and was looking at the same land I wanted to rent .. the owner of the land came out and immediatly started talking to me about the land and kind of didnt pay much attention to the furry couple that was obviously interested too.. then a few minutes later I noticed the furry couple pop into their human av's as they probably realized it would help in dealing with this particular land owner. Kinda sad really.

I think the reason for a furry ban with some jedi groups is what happened to an ewok in a tabletop star wars game I played: the small of burnt fur and the sight of a bald ewok will never leave my mind.

Ok, I'm TOTALLY making an Ewok Sith!

Just finished the Dug (like Sebulba the PodRacer... the guy that walks on his hands) last night. Just got textures and a few more animations to make and upload and she's ready to go. Looks awesome, if I do say so myself.

But I think I NEED an Ewok Sith.

I like that idea so much that I might name my first born "Ewok Sith".

I wouldn't call that discrimination. I would call that an opinion.

Now if they excluded you from furry gatherings or groups because of it, that would be discrimination. Otherwise it's just a difference in opinion.

Personally, I enjoy being though of as a goth freak. :)

Actually, I was denied employment at 2 furry establishments wholey or in part because I 'wasn't furry enough'. That crossed the line from opinion to discrimination in my book.

Hey, my roof wasn't peeling, and I liked that car. :p I ended up totalling it though, some guy in a fullsize truck failed to yield turning across my lane from the opposing lane and I broadsided him. So I got an '88 Chrysler Fifth Avenue purely by chance after that. That car bugged me though, it was two years newer and wasn't fuel injected, whereas it's 2 year older counterpart was fuel injected. I missed my '86, but ah well. I turned the '88 in and bought a van later.

But, uh, more on topic. There was a New World Notes article on discrimination a while back. I think it was Chip Midnight who made a very nice black skin and hired someone to wear it for a month or something to show it off. The person he hired had a white avatar formerly and said that when she put on the black skin a bunch of her 'friends' stopped hanging around and she got some pretty nasty remarks from random bigots as she went about her life. Pretty sad.

Conversely one of the most beautiful women I know in game runs around with a dark skinned av. Takes all kinds imho. Then again me and my girl are wierd, we switch from human to dragon to furry av's every 5 seconds.

Got trouble with people saying you aint furry enough? Well guess what! Heres my 2 cents. Anyone who has the nerve to say that to you, isn't worth it. It's obvous THEY ain't furry enough. :) The furry fandom is large with many kinds of people. Some don't eveen have fur, but simply LOOK like a animal. It doesn't meen you have to be anthro either. If you have a need to look like something that classifies you as a animal then you are a furry (mythical, or not). Need any further help identifying what a furry is? Check out the links in my Signature below. :)

And remember, being furry isnt 1 specific thing. It's many, and it needs acceptance of other types of furries.

With all the different avatars I have run around with in my time playing sl I haven't run into and discriminations. Although I keep hearing the same phrase over and over and over again with my current avatar. The next person who says 'What? ', 'Is you avatar rendered right?', or 'Is you avatar supposed to be a pile of boxes?' is so going to get smacked by a prim 2x4.

My avatar for those wondering what could make people say that stuff.

If it's got a name over it -- and isn't attached to someone's shoulder -- I assume it's a person, regardless of what it looks like. I _love_ the dragons! Haven't met any elves yet, alas. And I think furries are wonderful. Sl would not be nearly as much fun without the diversity of people/beings that we have.

I've seen when someone in a human AV pops into a furry sim I was visiting, and immedaiately got pounced on "Ick, a hyoooman!Kill it!" never mind the person was less than an hour old. so I decidded to intervene by pointing out that legaly, any bipedeal sentient of terran origin is legaly considerd human (from missy's backstory, former character else where that retired here) That confused them enough to leave the human alone. :D

Well, I can't say for certain whether I've experienced discrimination or not in SL. I'm a dragon in SL and I'm also a musician. I've had a few positive responses (thank you Slim and Tengu... great gigs and I hope to play at your places again and often), but most times it's the bad old 'don't call us we'll call you' followed by an interminable silence. Sure it might be my material, it's fairly esoteric and somewhat dated. But I can't help that nagging feeling that potential bookers look at me,wheel out a few bland get-out phrases and just switch off.

I'm a RL mouse, and I been discrimated against. People try and step on me all the time, its gotten so bad I hardly leave the house anymore and play SL constantly disguised as a human just to get some relief. The cheese is getting low and I will have to go out again soon, this might be the last chance I get to tell my tragic story. If I don't make it back carry on without me!

Thank you for asking.

As collared member of the D/s "community" (are we a community, really? ... well, whatever :p ), I've experienced it ... mmm ... once or twice. Only once really harshly. It was upsetting, too, but I have to say that, honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised for the most part at how accomodating people are. I don't think I can weigh that one really ugly experience against all of my other experiences and say that I'm making out poorly. ;)

I was surprised to actually experience discrimination in SL on a few occasions. Some guys just don't feel comfortable with the idea of a technically adept woman. Oddly, professing to be gay has not led to anything negative that I can think of offhand; it's knowing LSL that's been the biggest problem for me.

PFFT... Whatever you say missy  ...

Anyway, I have experienced Baba discrimination.. Sometimes people discriminate against me because I am Baba ;0 They hold up signs and protest my being in SL ;0 It's really hurtful. :(

I revere Babas as misguided demigods. They might be wrong but no matter how much you shoot them you can't kill them for good.:(

People make fun of me in-game simply because of my surname: Nerd.

Then they start making fun of my 'dorky look'. Which happens to be fairly close to my real life look, by design.

Not once has anyone apologised for this blatant nerd persecution either.

There is this odd and nasty discrimination in SL against Furries which is bizarre.

Not long ago Abramelin and I were exploring sims we had not yet visited and had the great misfortune of unknowingly landing on one of those gorean sims.

We apparently committed some terrible offense because before the landing area had even rezzed for us we were reading the chat of some nasty member whose welcome was an unpleasant beratement. For what? Well Abramelin had the nerve to be dressed in his tiny coyote avatar and this member who ran to "welcome" us was ordering him to change to a human avie or leave. There was no polite explanation of why this "greeter" was so offended, nor did he even wait for us to become orientated before dishing out these orders.

When we landed I was caught in bad lag and was unable to move which further annoyed this member who could not bear to see the tiny non human avatar. He continuously ordered me to move despite my telling him I was locked up an unable to move.

Believe me, after seeing this members hate filled reaction to the cutest little coyote avatar in all of SL I did not want to stay there. The irony is that when I looked at his profile, this nasty furry hating member posted in his first life profile that he was in veterinary school!

Some animal lover...and a future vet who hates animals and that anyone would be nuts to take their animal to for treatment.

These hate filled gorean sims should make themselves closed to the public if they have to post guards at the tp area whose purpose is to discriminate against a segment of the SL population.
