From: Dianne Mechanique Also they have all been shown a BIG stick. You know, with the great power comes great responsibility, etc. I agree - Linden's can't do it all. Obviously they would rather focus their talent in places other than the forum and who can blame them. I think their choice of people was wise. Everyone on the list that I saw were people who have a history in the forums for being reasonable and responsible at least during the time that I've been in SL and reading the forums. I have never been keen on **ANY** sort of sensorship, Linden or otherwise - For now, I just figure I'll sort of wait and see how it all works out. It won't be an easy job, I've seen some threads evolve into some really nasty messes. So consider me supportive. Rose

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Its not quite like that. They can only rate the threads to bring them to Linden attention. Only LL can lock/delete/ban.
-Me well thats good.... so uh... if they can't do anything other than rate threads really what is the point?

From: Dianne Mechanique Also they have all been shown a BIG stick. You know, with the great power comes great responsibility, etc. hehehehe, very true. I find I enjoy the forums when I take them about 10% seriously. That's why I think trying out some random resident moderation choices could lead to some interesting revelations. I rubberstamp your big stick idea! Jenn, I think they rate threads that they want LL to review, and try to keep discussion on-topic through replies (like the gentle, "avoid personal attacks" reminders). If I were LL (and its prolly a damn good thing I'm not) I'd just get rid of these forums, come up with a decent "LL announcements / known issues / etc" within Second Life itself, and let resident run forums take over. That way people can choose if they want to be on a strict, "play nice" forum, or a chaotic, flame war, name-names kind of place. In the long term, babysitting forums is a waste of the Community Team's time, when their focus should be on focusing the tools we have in-world to do what we need with community building. As SL moves towards being a more open-platform, with the end goal being the ability for people to host their own servers and de-centralize, these forums will become of less and less use as sub-communities develop their own communication systems. I think. Regards, -Flip

From: Eggy Lippmann In an ideal forum, this kind of snarky post would be seen as a personal attack, instantly deleted and get you suspended. Maybe your "ideal", certainly not mine.

-Me actually, Flip, we can move them. see this. i started that thread in General, moved it to Off Topic, then proceeded to try to Edit the Thread, but could not. also tried to Delete Thread, but couldn't do that either. after some testing, so far as i've been able to acheive.. we CAN: Rate Move Stick/Unstick Merge/Split Close/Open we CAN NOT: (threads or posts) Edit Delete and i believe that covers it.

Just to clarify -- ResMods are not able to:
Stick/Unstick Merge/Split Close/Open
The options may be visible - but they're not functional.
They CAN Rate Move

Jeska,
thought i would point out that the tools are apparently not working quite right.
i just stickied this thread.
i was also able to perform the actions i defined in my previous post to the thread i had started here in General and moved to Off Topic.
Edit: i'm not trying to step on toes, just trying to make sure this is working correctly as quickly as possible.

From: Cybin Monde i just stickied this thread. While you are stickying threads perhaps you could sticky a lengthy one in the design forum on how to create alpha textures in Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Photopaint, and GIMP for all versions created in the past 5 years or so.

Personally, if I were a forum mod, I wouldn't have chosen this particular thread to try to stick...

I thought of digging through the Design forum and stickying all the threads that explained how to make certain textures and make clothing, etc. I get asked about Photoshop a lot. But alas, turns out we can't do that.
