I have offered two methods to help

But nothing back from you at all.

I wonder if you actually want help in resolving this?

the problem squiz has, is that in the UK, we can only use credit card or paypal, no othe roption, so s/he can't fund it at all

Yes I picked that up... the problem as I understood it is the amount of time it takes for the money to be credited to the paypal account is unreliable.

squiz, I know Nowun has an idea for you, but I though of a couple of other options, to help combat this uncertainty. They both require a bit more money upfront though. You could put more money in, wait for it to come through, and get a quarterly or annual membership, which would mean you had a bit more time up your sleeve before each payment, and account for any delay more easily.

Another option, similar... you can add US$ to your account, and keep a positive balance, which LL would deduct from rather than paypal. Unfortunately, the minimum is $US25 at a time.

You may not have wanted to be paying that much in one hit though.

Not having a credit card is your choice but having one simpliflies many things from ordering flower arrangements to reserving hotel rooms to paying online. Your reasons for not having one are perfectly reasonable; nonetheless, you have chosen to instead use a service which you deem to be idiotic. It is also not the norm and you are annoyed that Live Help, which is not populated with employees of LL's billing department are not up to speed on how to assist you. That LL added the option of using Paypal as a service for those who do not have a credit card does not mean that it is a preferred or recommended approach. I'm just saying that you made your choice in rejecting a less frustrating method and are now frustrated. Maybe that's why others pay for the privelege of spending their money, hmmm? My time is a commodity and I don't like to waste it on the phone with customer support. If it's worth it to you, this looks like the price you've paid instead of a fee to a credit card company. (Not that there aren't fees for using Paypal, too.)

Exactly what is your proposal for a overhaul to the billing system? I'm unclear on how you have handled your subscription fees for other games without a credit card or Paypal.

Well first things first, i never said i was angry with live help nor am i angry with live help, i asked for numbers and email addresses they gave them to me and were very helpfull.
The reason i have no trouble with other games is because other games take into consideration that players from all over the world will want to play not just americans, so they will set up payment methods to cater for that. I only discovered paypal was idiotic after i used it to set up an account with this. All of the other games i play usually have an external site that is setup to take payment specifically from your country, wow for example has 3 or 4 websites that multiple nations can use to set up a payment method. Either that or they use a company that Will make transactions internationally unlike paypal, who dont currently do it. And i wasn't aware of that until i used paypal.
Oh also if you were in the U.K and saw the ridiculous charges made by credit card companies youd realise why i dont have one. I use a debit card instead, dont know if they have them wherever you are.

Thanks for the info. I honestly had no idea how such business is conducted internationally. Credit card fees can be exorbitant in the states as well, however there are companies which issue cards without annual fees and/or charges if the balance owed is paid within the billing cycle so I personally pay no fee for the convenience of a cc. None such cards are available in the UK? That certainly does suck. I have a debit card but it not being accepted is not unusual in my experience.

I could probably find one, but its not just the monthly fees, they take a small fee with every transaction you make which is a greater one than the cost of using paypal, unfortuantely the UK is a ridiculously expensive country in general, we get ripped off every time we buy something.

Ok I thought my one remaining option was to transfer money from my bank account into the paypal balance system and pay for it that way. Only 2 problems with this, this means I will have to transfer money and wait 7 days or more at a time every month. And not only that the money still hasnt cleared after the 7 day waiting period, so from month to month I will have to pray my account doesnt get downgraded cos the transfer delay has caused a lapse in payment.

Btw, I meant to mention that there is a week grace period to resolve billing issues regarding tier payments. At that point, your account is on hold and you can't enter SL until things are straight but it is a month before your holdings are acted upon for lack of payment. In other words, you don't lose it all the day after tier is due.

Actually I didnt know that, which would mean the lapse would only happen if i was slack in my payments, while this is handy its a bit of a pain in the neck. But i might be upgrading to an annual payment, that way i can keep Well on top of it all with no probs. Especially as it works out very very cheap in UK pounds.

Not really, unless you keep to 512 sm. Your tier is still due on a monthly basis even if your membership is paid annually. Get 2 alt accounts and put your land in a group (you need 3 for a group). Your alt account still has access even when your main account is on hold. I believe that the group (ie your alt as an officer) can sell the land even if you were denied access so it wouldn't be a total loss of your investment. I've not done it, but I think that's right.

As its gonna be a bit of a problem, im gonna hold off getting any land until i can get something more permanent sorted. Bit of a pain, but after comming this far with it, im not gonna just dump it. Ill have to just put up and shut up for the time being. At least in the mean time i can store up some L$.

Just to clarify a few points on this thread.

UK credit cards are available free of charge, or as a paying 'premium' account and our billing cycle is as with the US, interest being charged on outstanding monthly balances.

UK card payers, do not pay a transaction fee for using a credit card except in a very few establishments. It is not illegal to make a service charge for using a credit card, but the places which tend to do this are those working on a very tight margin where the 3-5% surcharge payable by the merchant on cc transactions is an issue. Merchants also pay a charge of between £0.25 and £0.75 again typically this is absorbed by the merchant, but they can legally charge a commission for debit card payments.

I mention the legality of charging, as in some US states cc and dc surcharges are illegal. Most of my expenditure is by CC and Charge card and I have never paid a surcharge on a purchase.

The conversion rates to US$ are as with all currency conversions, relative and the UK remains a poorer country, relative to the USA.

Paypal do not charge UK customers for making payments, they charge, as with the whole world for payments received on all but the basic account.

Squiz, I appreciate the humour of your thread.

So why didn't you just tell me that ? instead of
Paragraphs ?
not a good start for a friendly conversation is it ?
tactfullness isn't one of your strong points I guess.
And apart from anything I need help not an english lesson.

No, what you need is a lesson in how to use a keyboard.

There's something called an ENTER key - on a typewriter it was known as a RETURN or LINE RETURN key. You punch that key at the end of a line (on a typewriter) or at the end of a paragraph -- twice on a computer, actually, to make sure there's a blank line between the paragraphs.

Got it?

Interesting situation - someone who can't get a debit card but has broadband computer access. It's a TEENAGER, obviously.
