At My Wits End !

Ok billing hahahaha, so far i've been trying to upgrade toa premium account for 20 days with no luck.
I dont have a credit card. I refuse to get one, im not gonna pay someone for the privelage of spending my own hard earned cash. So I opted to use paypal.
First of all as the site suggests I tried to pay with a switch card thats activated in my paypal account, only to find out this doesn't work and that paypal dont currently provide or support that feature. At first I didn't know they dont provide it so I contacted live help and got an address for billing support, in fact I got two address's. After sending an email I recieved a torrent of blank emails, I checked the forums and discovered this was a known issue. So I went back to live help and got a phone number for me to call billing support from the U.K.
They said it was some confusion after I cancelled some of the prepayment agreements after discovering I had accidentally set up more than one. So even though I was left with one agreement, the payment method was the switch card that doesnt work. So I contaced paypals laughable support service, spoke to a woman for 20 mins who spoke very poor english and all I could work out was that the cancelled agreements would remove after 48hrs and the remaining one would also activate, surprise surprise it hasn't happenend nearly 12 days later.
Ok I thought my one remaining option was to transfer money from my bank account into the paypal balance system and pay for it that way. Only 2 problems with this, this means I will have to transfer money and wait 7 days or more at a time every month. And not only that the money still hasnt cleared after the 7 day waiting period, so from month to month I will have to pray my account doesnt get downgraded cos the transfer delay has caused a lapse in payment. So as you can see i'm at my wits end, im desperate to start building a home, but because of numerous barracades of idiocy from paypal, innacurate information on the second life website 20 days since starting im still a basic member. I really think the billing system needs an overhaul, cos I cant think of a single online subscription based game i've played that has these issues, do linden labs not want my money ?

Mmm, no, I was trying to follow it. The paypal things sounds like a pain in the butt, given squiz is saying it's not reliably happening in 7 days. So yes, I have another suggestion. I don't have a credit card either. I use a debit card. Could you get one of those?

Yup. Debit card. Credit cards are the greatest scam ever created - but debit cards I'm cool with.

To be honest, I don't know that we're going to be able to help you here, because it seems like you've been through the channels we would all suggest. If debit cards don't work keep bugging LL would be my only advice. Good Luck.

Yeah I tried a debit card, as I dont have a credit card, a switch card is a debit card issued by maestro, and it doesnt work, paypal dont support the prepayment contracts outside the U.K from a debit card.

My apologies squiz, you're right. I wasn't trying to be unfriendly or tactless, and I never give English lessons. If I was brief, please excuse me... I've got this crazy pain and I don't feel so good.

The UK Paypal system is quite different to the USA.

I am based in the UK.

You are quite right, transfer of funds from a bank account is problematical, with the 7 day delay. However, this is the UK banking system not the paypal system.

I would suggest you sign up with LL on Masspay, which you will find under 'profile>preapproved payments'

In here you can set up LL and confirm your payment source. Unlike other 'pay someone' transactions' the masspay system will draw your funds directly from your bank account quickly, some of these transfers only take 24 hours.

LL, will have to wait for a 'pending payment' which via masspay shoud be 3 days, LL may however not accept a delay, which leaves you no further forward

Alternatively, place a two month balance in your account and go ahead as normal. In the UK all LL payments, as with all 'dd' style payments go under masspay and you will find these here.

If you still have a problem, message me and I will talk to my paypal account manager and find out if there is another solution.

Oh, don't use it with paypal... I use mine directly with LL. I'm in Australia, and use a Visa debit.

Thats the problem im in the u.k and thats the only payment options I have. For some reason a lot of companies seem to hate uk debit cards.

Ok... if you're keen to get a home going... why not try renting some land (in L$) for a while... spend the ten bucks you would have spent on premium on buying some L$ off the Lindex, that will give you a fair bit of rent in advance. At least then you can get started while you sort something out.

It's a possibility, but im hoping I can get this sorted out, I cant be the only person with this problem. I know a lot of people these days have credit cards, but theres a lot that dont also, its just frustrating that the payment methods are so inflexible, especially as linden want to increase the populus.

It seems as if like many other services online that second life was made for americans, and if they happen to get a few stragglers from outside the usa thats a handy benefit. And thats a little short sighted when you consider its hosted on something called the World Wide Web, not the American Wide Web. They must have anticipated outside countries wanting a piece of the action, this sort of set up would have devastated companies like blizzard with their WOW franchise lol

Not having a credit card is your choice but having one simpliflies many things from ordering flower arrangements to reserving hotel rooms to paying online. Your reasons for not having one are perfectly reasonable; nonetheless, you have chosen to instead use a service which you deem to be idiotic. It is also not the norm and you are annoyed that Live Help, which is not populated with employees of LL's billing department are not up to speed on how to assist you. That LL added the option of using Paypal as a service for those who do not have a credit card does not mean that it is a preferred or recommended approach. I'm just saying that you made your choice in rejecting a less frustrating method and are now frustrated. Maybe that's why others pay for the privelege of spending their money, hmmm? My time is a commodity and I don't like to waste it on the phone with customer support. If it's worth it to you, this looks like the price you've paid instead of a fee to a credit card company. (Not that there aren't fees for using Paypal, too.)


Exactly what is your proposal for a overhaul to the billing system? I'm unclear on how you have handled your subscription fees for other games without a credit card or Paypal.
