Fat avatars...

I do see purposely fat avatars from time to time. That's not my thing but "to each their own", I always say.

Unfortunately, the majority were griefers who clearly spent their first (and last) few hours in SL making themselves look as outrageously hideous as possible before going on a rampage. :/

Hehe.. I get a kick out of people that purposely feel they need their avies to be skinny as a bean pole in SL, even when they themselves are not. But then I guess that's the point of SL isn't it? Be your alter ego or the way you wish you were.

I'm chubby IRL, and so is my avie.. the only difference is my avie is a bear cub, and obviously I am not IRL.

i've seen plenty of 'chubby' non-beanpole, and non-griefer avs over the years. Yeah, there are a lot of barbie dolls. But there are also 170,000 residents. Skinny avs are more common, but non-skinny avs are not that rare.

I have a fat avatar for the simple reason that I am fat in real life. I dont see why everyone else has to look like a generic pop supermodel.

One of the first things I purchased for my avatar was a petite BBW shape. I thought everybody else's avatar looked the same (turns out it was really the sims I was visiting), and I wanted to stand apart. I was very cute and curvy, but simply looked awful in skirts and dresses, so I had to keep in tight-fitting clothes. Additionally, a number of acquaintances and a few random griefers did make insensitive or downright insulting comments about my appearance. The one comment that stuck with me most- and this was from a close friend- was "I don't know why you wouldn't want to be beautiful in a virtual world."

But I WAS beautiful!

A few weeks ago, I adopted a taller, slimmer shape (by the designer of my original BBW shape), now shown in my forum avatar (albeit quite a bit more casual looking there than usual... my in-game profile pic features a more day-to-day look). I made the switch not because of people's comments but because my short stature and pinchable chubby cheeks no longer suited the character I had become. Oh, that and the whole skirt thing.

A few of my friends were disappointed with the change (mostly men, but also one BBW whom I met and befriended during my initial search for shapes), but most others saw it as a natural metamorphosis if not an improvement.

Does anyone know if this shop still exists? I can't find it...

"Big Girls Dont Cry Shapes - sexy realistic & fuller figures !

I don't know if that store's still around, but frankly I think you can do better. I did a search for BBW shapes a couple months ago and my findings (with store names) are documented in this thread.

If you like I can model some of the Big Girls shapes for you in-game to show you what I mean. That collection is kind of neat in that it contains four different models in progressive stages from thin to very overweight (could be useful in weight gain/loss roleplay), but the largest models are pretty extreme and unhealthy looking.

cant find a pic that shows my figure well on this account.. but it falls under the short an fat catagory ^^

only times ive had problems with having a fat av is with prim skirts an such.. but with wearing a furry av most of the time i never wear them anyway (it knocks the tail off)

I was fiddling with my avatar a few weeks back, and decided to take the Body Thickness and Body Fat sliders up a few notches. I wound up with thickness 50, Body Fat 60, and decided that I liked it. So I've been walking around with the group title "Sexy Fat Chick" for the past few weeks. :)

The odd thing is, I've actually been getting more compliments on my avatar -- and a fair amount of flirtage -- since I changed it. A plump avatar looks different from the SL 'norm', but also just looks *real*, and it attracts attention, most of it positive.

So to everyone out there with their Body Thickness and Body Fat sliders turned all the way down to zero, I'd suggest you try nudging it up a bit. Even if you don't go the full Peter Paul Rubens route, consider taking it up to 10-30%: a little padding can make your avatar much more realistic.

a couple of newbie questions-and replies..

Reddish & Wildfire- Thanks, lets connect ingame. I'd love to see the progressivly larger figures and any hint you have!

Liberty- How do you make "your own" group name to display?

Someone else broke the problem down pretty well earlier, the big three for an Avatar: Shape, Skin and Clothes.

It occoured to me that the belly size control is really suited to depicting two things only: Pregnany and a Beer Belly. As any fat person will tell you, bellies sag down as well as stick out. Perhaps we need a boyancy control for bellies?

Can an individul remedy this themselves? Is it actualy possible with vision, money and time (the other big three in SL or RL!) to make a shape that really works for a fat women (or man)?

Finally, because a shorter shape will have mesh "lines" closer together, are large curves more round and accurate or not?

Thanks,

Jennie

I believe it is indeed possible. One of the shape sets I got actually includes tips for customizing the shapes. I don't have it with me atm, but I remember mentioning that you have to take gravity into account, and that the 'handlebars' slider was important to a BBW look. The shapes in her set are all modifiable, and I actually tweaked her 'Amazon' shape for my current avatar. (Note that not all shapes are modifiable...)

I'm afraid I didn't really understand your last question from your post though.

I project that the Ruben's girls will be all the rage once the starved, and plastically enhanced bondage gear wearing hooker look is done and over.

So betta get your fat on and eat something that will stick to your ribs. I can snap you like a chicken. :-)

Perhaps something can be done when we get flexible prims. Of course clothes will be a problem.

I have a group in which I am the only officer; so my group title is whatever I want it to be.

True. I had the belly slider set to 10%, but it just made me look about three months pregnant. Not the look I was shooting for. "Fat Chick" or not, I keep the belly slider set to zero.

(Though it does have one other use: if you're trying for a "bubble butt" on a generally thin av -- which you get not with the butt size slider, but rather with a low pelvis length -- a little bit of belly, around 5-10%, enhances the effect.)

Happy with form for now, but Bigger is Better!
04-13-2006 10:54
Thanks to Liberty and everyone else for their comments.

I finally actually Looked at what happens with the body fat and thickness sliders the other day. Now I understand a lot more!

But it has just left me wanting BOTH sliders to go up to like 200!

Anyway, I now have a beautiful form (thanks Dwela!) and I'm about as big as I can get without looking all lumpy. My tummy still looks a little uncommon (for the RL, at least), but I have met some wonderful ladies who have helped me out more than I can say.

I want to further develop my look, create a couple of alternate makeup and hairstyles, and that will only take time and $$$, along with my developing fashion sense in SL.

I'm not fully satisified of course, and with this much choice, I did not join Sl to be a monk!

If you see me online, say Hi! I'd love to compare notes with other BBW's and any FA's around.

Is the hip bone connected to the fat bone?
04-28-2006 09:34
<Bump>

It's two weeks since the last post, and in my digging around on the topic, I came across some mention of a way to make tall avatars.

It involves doing something with the avatar code and making the hip heigth values larger, which translates into a taller avatar.

I also ran across the same idea in making bigger breasts, but aparently the results are not so desirable...

My question is, can this same technique be applied to the body fat or body thickness adjustments? The goal being of course, to enable one to make a larger, fatter avatar.

Is this doable? has anyone done it?

BBW's unite...
04-28-2006 15:43
LOL...just another BBW stepping up. Avi has always been bigger than most. Men in game have commented it looked real. Yes, skirts are a pain...but I've found that if I make the skirt with a high waist, the actual butt blimp goes away...not totally...but it looks better.

I make clothing in game and sell them as well. Since they are set to my size...the prim skirts are made to fit me. I've seen a few skinny avis wear them and I chuckle as the prims are at off angles. THANK YOU FOR BUYING btw...it's just a bit funny to see. I think I'll start making smaller prim skirts (along with the larger sized ones) to fit almost everyone. >.<

My bf loves my shape (although I *AM* bigger irl...SL makes me look lumpy if I make myself any bigger) and tells me he'll divorce me if I go skinny (he's just kidding...but is serious, lol). I've gotten compliments on it as well...even by other women...saying how "brave" it was to look different. *shrug* I guess it is...seeing most clothing designers pander to the Barbie.

Anyways, here's a few pics of me. Oh..and btw...GAIA! I love ur skins on me /endplug.

Love to all ya big girls and guys out there. Fat Pride! *giggles*

Hi Ellie!

I'll have to check out your clothes. I *think* I have a pair of your pants, but i would LOVE to find a nice skirt that fits really well. I have one from a friend, but variety IS the spice of life!

Sorry you can't post pics. Drop one to me inworld if you can-I'd love to see your avi!

I get a lot of complements too. None negative so far, and one very nice one out of the blue from an admirer today. I am liking this virtual world stuff! (maybe it's the shoes!) Due to a wardrobe mishap a week or so ago, I had one fellow drop out of the sky just to say hello;). that was VERY nice...

I'm still fiddling-I hate the bumpy look, but I like being who I am and I'd like my avi to match my vision..., so that's why I'm still asking about making bigger avatars!

The Barbies are all beautiful, and I love them for that. We may LOOK different, but once we start talking, we're still just girls and that's wonderful.

See ya!

There's a few. I have to take pics cause it's so rare.

More cushion for the pushin' I say!

Yes, you like to take pics don't you. You trespassed on my property even though the remarkably ineffective SL ban lines were up. Sat down in one of my chairs, after being told you were not welcome and asked to leave, then you proceeded to take photos of my partner and I kissing, and rufused to talk to us or explain your intrusion.

I noticed in a previous post you wrote:

You like to take photos's dont you? I think in polite society you are known as a voyeur. Probably someone who cant find a girlfriend of his own. In other words a pathetic loser.

And some people in this forum dont undertand why some of us feel a need for security equipment, its because of sick people like you.

Fat=Ugly

Fat people are unhealthy. It's that simple, plus in my opinion fat people are ugly.

When people get so fat they can no longer fit through the doorway that's just obseen. There's a few who can use the cop out, "medical reasons", but for the rest of the world you just need to get out and exercise.

It takes time every day, but I maintain a reasonable shape, even so I need to do some more situps to trim my waist by another two inches for the look I want.

I have never understood why, but it's considered wrong to single out people for abuse because of the colour of their skin, sexual orientation or disability - yet it's perfectly fun to joke about overweight people "because it's their own fault". It is something that constantly irritates me that people don't see "size prejudice" as being wrong.

Lewis

This thread is nice, and in fact my main form in SL is a bit curved here and there.. but..

The above statement stuck to me, and I decided to comment on it. I know there is a 'size prejudice', and having an opinion bias based on weight is wrong. This is completely different from have an 'unhealthy' bias, which I have, in spades. I am a strict believer that anyone who takes care of themselves and loves their body is beautiful. At the same time, seeing someone who is overweight, slothly, and pale from not being in the sun is far from pretty, and I don't consider thinking poorly of someone like that as prejudice in any way. I'm not prejudging them based on a stereotype, I am judging them as I see them, based on obvious cues to low self esteem or plain laziness.

I know this is a bit of a tangent, but I am gonna say it anyway. Self confidence is incredibly sexy. I have friends who are decidedly overweight, but they take care of themselves, and they make up for it in personality. If you eat right and you keep yourself active, and you're still overweight, then /no one/ should fault you. The weight itself shouldn't be the issue, it should be about how you feel about yourself.

Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Also I support any of you plus size guys and gals who wanna mirror your big purty forms on here. ^^;

Thanks, Myrilla!

Your thougtfull comment came just as I thought this thread was going to get hijacked buy anti-social types or mired in a discrimination morass.

Now if I could just get some comments on the tweaked hip technique as it might apply to body fat and thickness...
