and i agree though, it's a bitter-sweet development. it feels as though we've just witnessed the Grecian acsension of a core member of our society unto an Olympian habitat.

but i'm sure we haven't "lost" you either.. plus, you've got that whole time-travelling thing on your side to be able to port about between Linden lands and the Esselian grid/forums.

a HUGE congrats to you and i would say i hope the best for you.. but, there's no "hope" needed.. it's just a fact. you'll have a groovy time of it and in the meanwhile other Esselians will reap the joyous trickle-down effects. just, beautiful.

also, as others have requested, could you clue us in as to what it is you'll be doing? i'm dying to know! (although i'm assuming it's some sort of community support type of thing)

hmm.. not sure if i should be surprised or not..

on one hand, we've got the Torley we've all known.. flitting about in all her watermelony goodness, spreading incurable smiles as she lays waste to all manner of darkness that may stray in front of her happy-go-lucky path..

on the other hand, we've now got LINDEN Torley.. who will surely now have the ability to spread her giddy cheer more thoroughly throughout our world. which, of course, is a good thing.. knowing we won't have to worry about this new power going to Torley's head, but being used in all her wiseness to do what good she can.

so, we went from good to good. not bad.

Great question, I was wondering the same thing? I asked Torley in her blog if she was the first Linden to be outed so to speak. I know Torley is not the first resident to become a Linden. I wonder, is it a choice they are given? Is Torley the only one brave enough to let us all know?

WOWZA. I'd just like to express my gratitude, really. Every light that has shone on me in this Community has led to me wanting to give a lot back, even if the way I do it can be rather quirky sometimes. But we all have our styles... so THANXIES THANXIES THANXIES to each and every Resident—and really, even tho I don't have the title anymore 'cuz it'd be confusing, I still am a Resident at heart, "Resi" for short (as long as and friendlier than "user", shorter than "newbie"—and here it is today.

I'm awwwwed by all these posts.


First, For all practical purposes I will still be inworld a lot.

Second, I AM SO GRATEFUL!

Third, I don't know all of what to say. A lot is still blurry, and no, those aren't unrezzed textures—something you can bet I'll be taking an even more serious look at now, haha, otherwise it'd kind of be like a museum guard in the Louvre not knowing if the Mona Lisa was falling apart and turning into a more Daliesque work of art.

I'm so happy to be here in Second Life. Here are some of my answers!


-SURE feel free to get my card or exchange Friendships with me. I'm always up for meeting more nice peeps in SL! I don't have a Linden Card or Linden Bear yet, but maybe soon enough! I have a lot to be done... heck, I need to build a desk or something. Altho I'm not sure what I'd do for a Linden Bear apart from watermelonizing it, which I also did with a hippo I sent in for the Infohubs.

-I DO want to turn a ground texture watermelon, JUST TO SEE WHAT IT'S LIKE. But, I must be first be mindful of Resis living in the area, so that they don't freak out, or worse yet (or better?), try to plunge their heads into the grounds like 14 furious ostriches and eat it. How tempting...

-I DON'T HAVE A KEWL JOB TITLE HERE AT LINDEN LAB YET. Actually, this is good. It's kinda hard to define what I am... apart from referring to me by my name, TORLEY LINDEN (now). I am reborn like an amoeba (albeit in the shape of a horse), and I will learn. I'm flexible, going to grow, and this is going to be vewwwy organic+evolving. So, here's the firm schtuff for today (2006.01.11): I'm involved with the Community Team. That means keeping in touch with Resis, getting social things done, making the connections when it comes to relevance, and ohhh yeah you can bet a lot of what I want to do will be to RIPPLESHOCK AND POINT OUT LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE! (I mean, c'mon, foot shadows, who's kidding anyone, right?) And a lot of the UI tweaks, and how people are FEELING in here overall about the experience. I'll tell you a funny story, and that is, I don't somnambulize, but sometimes I do wake up in the middle of the night and come to SL and forget how to use the User Interface. That part of my brain is temporarily just voided. By doing this, I can come up with personal simulations for how to make it easier to use, because it's like starting FRESH. So yesh, a lot of what I do, is what I've always done here, just taking that not to the next level... but I mean, it's a whole new video game. Wait, did I say game? 1) KIDDING! and 2) that wasn't strictly in reference to the whole of SL, but what we can find within. Like how a human has a liver, but a liver is not a person. See this:

-Great Chicken Hunts are not easily forgotten. Every event in my Second Life has led to today.

-Fulfilling prophecies? I can't explain it, I just live this stuff... for now. Other people write the scriptures. (Yes Second Life is my official religion. )

-Shame I no longer have an alliterative name. Do middle names count? Top 10 lists are nice tho!

-I am working remotely from deep in the forest. Ahhh the wonders of advanced technology. Someday I may visit LL offices tho, I hope too, in the future when my health improves and my hearing condition (hyperacusis) gets better. I'm hopeful!

-"Ascension", I like the tone of that, altho it kind of reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hehehe.

-I'm still up for BLINGSPLOSIONS and SILLINESS. After all, a big part of SL is the whole uhhh IMAGINATION aspect. Without that, we'd be like rote zombies tethered to chairs with spikes and thrown down a hill on a planet with heavy gravity. NOT a pretty picture. Add cows that go boooom! I'm all for having a good time—as long as it doesn't break da Community Standards, but then again, I've always been that way!

-I still wanna post a lot in the SL Forums, yes. And I've heard "assimilation" jokes but think of this more like, uh, Katamari Damacy. It's like this big ball that rolled around with crazy pseudosalsa music playing and Lindens got sucked up on it, now I'm there and the ball just got more watermelony. But gosh, I enjoy being on these SL Forums... through the good and the bad and so many emotions in between... so yup! If I sound too sedate, something may be wrong, so I'll be counting to get a wake-up virtual reality check should that happen. (It'll be like one of those movies with an 80s revival rock band passed out on the floor of a hotel room in the middle, saying "Where it did all go wrong?" and then the montage music plays and they start training and they make a most excellent return to the stage. But let's hope it doesn't come to be that bad!)

-Just to clarify, my role on the Community Team isn't that of Liaison but I will be seeing Liaisons when my fun goes horribly wrong in the sandbox and they go "OMG YOU GREEFER KIN!" Seriously though, I will be communicating lots (big C word there) and we'll be coordinated (another C word).

-ESSELLIANS, gotta dig the spelling of that!

-SL priest? Luverly. I was thinking more of "GOODWILL AMBASSADOR" really, but whatever you wanna call me. It's kinda like one of those beasts that are cute but are hard to find, but they have many names. Or you know, how Yeti might be Bigfoot might be Sasquatch might be Abominable Snowperson. Cuter tho.

-There are a lot of things I don't know the answer to YET. But I am eager to learn. I just want to live by example, and help make SL a happier place.

-Haney, that name sounds familiar...... I remember when I was new in SL and on Stage 4, and Haney Linden gave me gracious words of encouragement. All these moments will not be lost like tears in rain!

-Regarding alt policies, I don't know the name of every cat in the bag, so to speak, but I'd like to make it very clear we're in uncharted waters in my specific case. I am a hot-pink-and-neon-green guinea pig. My circumstances are unique. I may not be the best explainer in words, but again, I will live by example and hope my actions as an avatar will demonstrate this purely and thusly. And I hope... OMG!!! WHAT A TRIP!!!


So: I've long wondered about a lot of gaps in SL, and I wanted to help the talented+nice members of the Linden family to fill them, one by one. Especially with some of the nagging things that haven't been addressed yet. There are sooo many wonderful observations here that I don't want to see go forgotten, or worse, have to be repeated ad infinitum redundantly. Because I hate redundancy.

I want to get down and dirty with the nitty-gritty and experience the pulse at the core of SL, even moreso than I did before. I want to not only know what's HAPPENING—to an exponential degree of how I was doing it was as Torley Torgeson—but go through it too. Roaming through the gridverse. BEING.

We're growing a lot, it's such an exciting time, and it's important to always stay tru 2 your roots. But it's easy to lose sight, so I have to stay grounded. I gotta consume dirt to have an appreciation for a good meal. And that's what I'm here for.

Here's the thing with Torley and alts.

Torley as Torley is infinitely valuable because... shit, look at all that. The sheer enthusiasm for this entire wad of stuff is staggering.

Asking Torley to conceal Torley is like asking an elephant to hide behind a shoebox.

So. You want to hire Torley. You can't hide Torley, but even if you did, it would defeat the purpose of having Torley in the first place.

Thus, Torley must equal Torley as the exception to the rule of Levelling-up to Lindenhood. The exception that prevents the universe from inverting itself into a klein bottle of lint and fear.

It all makes sense on a sort of cosmic scale, I think. I must admit I accepted this from the outset, even before Torley was a Linden. "If Torley were a Linden, it would have to be Torley Linden. Nothing else would work."

God, I'm tired.
