A way to make ResMods more useful

Since it seems we are stuck with the ResMod program whether we like it or not, something I saw in the World of Warcraft forum made me think of what the ResMods could be doing besides admonishing us for calling George Bush bad words and moving around posts like ping pong balls. The World of Warcraft forums have something called World of Warcraft Weekly, where they provide a page with links to important topics and discussions that have come up during the week across the various WoW forums:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=7990883&p=1&tmp=1#post7990883

There is an example. There are direct links to relevant threads and posts within threads, often time containing official responses to questions and such things. It makes it very easy to quickly get up to speed on what is going on. As it is nearly impossible to keep up with all of the various forums we now have, and with threads being moved around more than ever, having a nice concise list to refer to would be quite useful. The ResMods could help to prepare these weekly lists of relevant topics and official posts from the Lindens. It seems to be a far less controversial use of ResMods than having them play hall monitors.

Oh hell yea! That would be much appriciated.

As a side note, i'm sure there will be some people who would feel left out when their thread/post isn't listed in the weekly roundup. But they can make their own weekly roundup if they like. :P

Nice idea. :)

I just have one question. How many, if any, of the resmods have the time to do something like this?

I think you would be doing us all a great service if you'd do something like this Cristiano. You're very good at finding the resmods something to do. Well one of them, to my knowledge, is a mentor, greeter, live helper, instructor.... I seem to remember reading that you weren't currently in any of the volunteer programs, and you seem to be on top of the forums pretty much all the time...so maybe forum-chaser or resmod-camp-follower would be a good title for what you propose? With a weather eye on Snapzilla, you'd be in a good position to do this.

Also, dressing them up in french maid outfits and having them clean my house. Another useful service. Well..just a thought.

not a bad idea!
04-22-2006 02:45
while i may not look great in a french maid outfit, i DO think this is a really cool idea.

as for who could do it.. perhaps all the ResMods could post threads to a general thread in the (private) ResMod forums and at the end of the week someone could compile them into a concise and easy to use list, posted (as a sticky?) in General and leave it there until the next week.

what would you say to a permanent sticky thread (keeping it closed (except when posting a new list) so it couldn't get cluttered with comments) where every week the new list would be posted?

perhaps there could be a "suggestions from the audience" thread in the (public) ResMod forums where the community could throw in suggestions to be considered for the list?

i could try to work on this a bit myself, but probably couldn't do all of it. also, i'm going to link to this thread in the (private) ResMod forums so that perhaps Jeska and Torley (along with other ResMods) will come take a look at this idea. :D

Siggy, i was rotated out in the beginning of Phase 3, but was rotated back in about 3 weeks ago. (wow, it's been that long already?)

so, basically yes.. but i wasn't one for a couple of weeks or so.

what can i say? i actually like being a ResMod! plus, it's the closest i've gotten to becoming a full-fledged Linden, which has been a (not so) secret wish of mine for over a year now.

If they have time to dick around screwing with harmless threads, they certainly have time to actually contribute to the community.

I was IM'ed last week by someone suggesting something similar for the Script Tips forum (which I have been so busy it had slipped my mind). What they were suggesting was a "FAQ" and a "News Blotter" to be stickied at the top of the forum. I was planning to do so when I get some free time.

This thread has a five-star rating too! XD

Actually, this was one of the original intentions of the ResMod programme--to highlight useful threads. Sadly it got lost somewhere, I'm happy Ano brought it up though. Because now I will too.

It's like, who wants to know more about scripting the new lighting system, and missed Steve Linden's post?

/290/35/100153/1.html#post997516

On a practical basis, with forum search being borked for common words (pending a future solution), it's difficult to find some info that could be very readily compiled by humans to share around. I've read in several articles that with all these types of "Web 2.0 social sites" on the net, a growing thing may be "social search", or providing a more human way to get personalized answers.

Tangent: one of the best examples of this type of aggregation is Feynt Mistral's CSG (Constructive Solid Geometry) compilation. I can't find it now due to 3-letter search limitation but I gotta ask him... and post it here if it's alright, 'cuz I think it's fantastic.

I want to know! I had no idea. Great news. Thanks, Torley! Gotta give us more of this action, definitely.

My point was it will have to be a team effort since no one person would have the time to do it all. Sheesh.

Notice I said resmods - I didn't mean it would be compiled by one person.

every now and again, Enabran..

every now and again. ;)

(more specifically, the topic of this thread is being actively pondered. not to mention the fact that i'm pushing for a community discussion about the need for another forum.. i know, why more? easy.. for those threads that just don't belong anywhere in particular, but have relevance to some or all of Events/General/Design/Building/etc.. for example, where would you put a thread that talks about a new player-government run builders Sim and details the society therein, while asking for advice on land textures/design, but also announcing a charitable side to its existance?)

in any case, i would like to try to start working on this.. and Feynt's compilation is a supreme example of what can be done. :)

Edit: just wanted to make note that i do see this as a team effort that includes not only multiple ResMods, but the community as well.
