My first post back yesterday was asking what had happened to the forums and why the resmod thing was set up so poorly. For my effort my thread was sent in to review because some person in these forums abuse reported it.

The thread I have found was Nuked by LL and I was sent a warning letter stating that I made a personal attack within that thread which was clearly a lie on Linden Labs behalf. Any resmod who saw that thread last night can vouch for the fact that no personal attack was made by myself or anyone else who contributed to that thread.

Linden labs has once again thrown together a poorly concieved plan withought giving the residents any information or criteria based on what direction the forums are taking.....Nice backbone LL.

As for my warning I beliecve I am owed an apology due to the fact that I made no personal attacks....I have the balls to admit when I am wrong.....Wonder if anyone at Linden Labs does?

Dude I feel ya - I think if someone thinks player A made a personal attack on player B - and its not player B who posted the AR, they should like - check.. 'do you find this offensive - do you think this is an attack on your character?'

I mean some of the stuff a lot of ppl say to me is good hearted light humor - the way I like it - but some of the PC with a 'triangle happy mouse finger' might do that.

Either way dude - look on the brightside:

With a 'tarnished record' you'll never have to be a 'forum hall monitor'!

Welcome to the fold my brother - we usher you into our fold with open arms!

Eeep! I'm in the same fold with Siggy! (Ewwwww, says Siggy.)

I saw that thread yesterday, and there was no personal attack in it, unless it was - again - something put on right before the thread was removed.

I did wonder who that was in the police blotter - turns out it was you. I was thinking also, hey, they are moving these things so fast we will not even be able to guess at who is in the police blotter.

So I'm sorry it's you, but glad to know now who it was - since I couldn't remember anyone making any personal attacks, and was wondering where this hot forum was that I haven't been reading, lol.

I started a thread here on the SLU forums if anyone wants to discuss this without fear of reprisal by LL or having their thread disappear:

I made the police blotter? :p You're right siggy as always.

Eventually LL will drive these forum mods away one way or another and we'll end up with bottom of the barrel mods who have vendettas and this place will finally dissapear.

There never was a personal attack in that thread by anyone...the only thing I can see is LL didnt like me talking negatively about them or their pet project dujour so nuked the thread and considered that a personal attack against them :p

Kinda like what hitler did when he shut down all the free press in germany....don't like what you hear ...censor it.....pathetic LL simply Pathetic.

Wonder how long this thread will last

Well, some of us must get special dispensation because my negativity regarding LL has never even gotten a rise out of them.

I totally see the comparison to Hitler, though.

Do you think they will drive the forum mods away? Or the users of the forums. There are other, not so strong armed, forums around.

staunch supporters

i'd like robin linden and jeska and some of the other pr/marketing lindens ll to actually read some of the threads about resmods, the residents' concerns, and read the threads that some of those threads are about.

and in this case i think it's really worth noting who is complaining and the types of complaints people are making. this isn't just the "usual" group of malcontents (like myself), but this group also includes many people who make an effort to say what a good job ll does. several of the staunchest boosters and supporters of ll are expressing concern about threads disappearing for no discernable reason, and people are expressing concern over the possibility of critical threads disappearing.

i will reiterate the three things the forums need in moderation:
- transparency: who is doing what to whom?
- clarity: for what reason?
- consistency: is it being done across the board or to a select few?
these are clearly lacking at the moment. want to do something controvertial? be up front about it. don't hide behind vague clauses in the tos or cs.

it would be nice to have checks and balances in the resmod system, but i do think the three points i bring up show mitigate most of the problems.

- consistency: is it being done across the board or to a select few?

just to let you know, we are actively pursuing all three of these topics.

transparency - we want to be able to have something in a post that clearly shows it is a ResMod post. most likely as an option of some sort that's post specific so that ResMods can either be seen in that light or as their normal Resis identity.

clarity - again, we are trying to perform akin to Jeska where a reason is attached to every action. granted, if something is moved to Lenden Review, we have no way of letting anyone know this. if you have a solution, please feel free to share. (the best i've heard so far is to allow Resis to view the Lenden Review queue by thread title only.)

consistency - this is extremely important. i hope we can function in this manner better and better.. and quickly, too. one thing being done is a thread i started to post links to threads that are in question before taking action, which allows for multiple viewpoints to consolidate into a better formed opinion. best case scenario is one where we all discuss such a thing with Jeska as well.

I am reading with great interest a lot of what I see.

As Cybin mentioned!

And... it should be emphasized again that Jeska's original ResMod posts including this, which mention the structure behind this whole thing, do detail what is hoped to be achieved.

And on a personal note, if I scroo up, I'll say sorry!

Hey Talen. ;)

I guess what hasn't been said by the Lindens in so many words, but which is becoming obvious from examples such as yours Talen, is that whilst launching the "ResMod" program, they're also cracking down on the forums themselves. I wonder if they're trying to mould the forums into a banal, only pro-LL extension of their PR? Certainly I'm seeing more draconian actions, so I suspect that the semi-transparency ends at the basic details of the ResMod program and ignores a detailed explanation of the new forum "ethos" that they'll be applying in the future. Jeska certainly seems to have had a humour bypass recently, noted well by her comment when locking Jauani Wu's thread. I found that kind of ridiculous.

I suspect we'll see even more inconsistency in the moderation as well, especially reading conflicting comments by ResMods on their understanding of the rules they're applying. We'll see more extremes and, without doubt, we'll see some favouritism going on, or ResMods with axes to grind using their tenure to work some of it out of their system.

The ResMod program, interestingly, also gives LL something to hide behind. They can say that the initial moderation was done by residents and not LL, so it must be what the community wants. I suspect there's much more to this than LL are saying, but we'll have to wait and see on that.

Of course they can do what they like with the forums, it's their system, but curtailing discussion to only the positives would seem astoundingly short-sighted. But then, they do seem to love unabashed ass-kissers.

And they are bloody well failing.

Resident Moderators Selection Criteria:
- Must be both an Second Life Resident and forum participant for at least 3 months

Some of the resmods have hardly been forum participants *in* three months.

- Write thoughtful, constructive posts

Some of them basicly never post.

- Clear from past participation that they value positive discussion and will contribute to the overall tone of the Second Life Forums

The overall tone of the forums has gone to hell in the last two days. Nobody has any idea whats going on and even I, who normally am very relaxed and am inclined to let things be, even I can see that threads are beign moderated with no rhyme nor reason, and absolutely no consistancy. And now somone has a formal warning on their record for doing *nothing* that warrented it, all because of this mess.

LL, you screwed up. Pull the plug on this before it gets worse. If you want to keep it going, fine, but shut it down until you get the bugs worked out of the process, don't subject us to your experiments.

This is a good point. I've been accused of being a "fangirl" for Linden Lab for quite some time and it's true that the vast majority of my postings (on this forum and external sources) has been fiercely pro-Linden Lab. I've never had ultrior motives, I simply call it the way I see it and as it happens I feel Lindens usually do an outstanding job. I hope this fact gives me some credibility when I condemn the resmod program. I'm not trying to stir the pot, or cause Linden Lab trouble. Everybody knows that is not my nature.

I agree wholeheartedly.

If we fail to deep-six the resmod program, could we at least provide a means for the general public to veto a resmod selection by vote? While I have nothing but the highest regard for all the resmods selected, some highly respected people have privately expressed concern (and forwarded me links to past posts) over one or more of the selected resmods. This gave me even greater concern over the selection process which I considered deeply flawed to begin with.

I keep seeing certain words and phrases through out the forums being thrown about and I can't help but wonder why in all the time that these forums have existed that LL has never bothered to adequately lay down the law and tell us in a black and white manner what the rules and guidlines.... other than harrasment and personal abuse there has never been anything.

I keep seeing some people say this is a PG area....really? when was this defined and why would we have a pg area when we are all adults...we have to be in able to join SL and these forums.

People keep saying certain threades are off topic to the general forum....how is that possible unless the thread has to do with non SL issues?....most I've seen moved to OT over the last year or so were done because some one added a pic or people started joking.

As far as consistancy there has never been any and at this rate never will be any. How is it that one forum poster with a heavy finger can abuse report 5 or so posts in a thread which effectively abuse reports the thread and original poster 5 times?

Whats the criteria to move a thread to review? The amount of AR's? The amount of Ar's by different reporters? Whats the criteria to move a thread to OT especially if it contains general issues with or about SL? Whats the criteria to nuke a thread and take action on a poster?

Second life in general is full of everything from whore houses to churches....PG to XXX it reflects the world we live in and more....why should the forums be any less than that?

I think what Moopf stated earlier is spot on... LL wants to crack down on the forums... and the resmods will be the sacrificial lambs to do the job...

Heya Torley.....when did you join the dark side lol

Since you're asking for the criteria, that above is a link to the Forum Guidelines. I saw some folks asking what they exactly were. I'm looking over them as well. Also Jeska mentioned the Big Six of Community Standards is something she goes by as well.

If that's a joke it is NOT funny and if it's serious you have got to be kidding. Please explain.

I also believe that the Community Standards are agreed to upon playing SL - not entering the forums. How then do they become the standards for the forums.

Okay. First off, I personally didn't find any posts in here offensive. But it has been reported.

This thread has been reported for: Reposting (refer to link about Guidelines).

But I read this thread and don't see it as a repost. For me, there's no harm in questioning LL and their policies in a civil manner. Also, several points have been brought up in here that make it relevant. In my personal judgment, this thread should not be taken away on a too literal interpretation of the Guidelines.

So I've acknolwedged the report but don't see the need for any more action, especially disciplinary. I don't have the final say though.

This is, uh, easily one of the mildest threads on a contraversial topic I've seen in ages. If there is indeed action taken against the participants, the ResMod debacle has left the realm of the amusing and entered the realm of the absurd.

I didn't understand why the original thread which got Talen his initial violation was deleted so I felt a need to speak up and inquire here before it disappearred as well. I never would have guessed that he'd receive a cornfield for the last one therefore had no reason to think he wouldn't get one this time, too.
