From: AliceSandra Burnham Thanks for the reassurance whim. I must say so far the SL experience has been very friendly and positive. Hope there aren't too many rough boys on the mainland. Alice AliceSandra, These forums have many more rough boys than you'll find on the mainland in SL! Use the search button on the bottom of your SL screen for "New Citizens Plaza" and teleport there. There is usually someone around to ask questions and help you get acclimated. There are also some freebies and a sandbox. It's a very nice place to call home while you get your bearings. Welcome to SL!

I think Help Island is over done anyway. I just don't see the need to have tutorials to teach newbies how to script or even build. It's just not necessary to teach them that level of doing things in SL at the beginning. I once met a newb that said he was having trouble getting down the scripting and wasn't comfortable leaving Help Island until he did. OMG, are you kidding? Help island should only be for the basics. Learning to change clothes, how to use the inventory, how to do other basic things. How to create a look and save it. Give out a few basic things for free, but beyond that it's totally unnessasary(how ever you spell it). I think by offering all this stuff there, the newbies are in a situation that makes them comfortable and then are AFRAID to leave. I once held someones hand as we teleported to NCI hQ. It was amazingly stressful for her, but in all actuality it was just a simple TP. I think someone needs to bring this up to the voulanteer coordinator or HI coordinator and make some changes to HI. It will free the island up for mentors to REALLY help people, not create an environment that they don't want to leave when they really haven't seen anything at all, yet.
