Booted from Help Island

Hello all,

Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction for help on this. Last night, I was logged out of Help Island by the client. This has happened before, because of lag or high server load I guess. In the past, I have just logged back in with no problems. However, when I logged back in, I was informed that the sim was down, and I would be logged into an alternate location. This location turned out to be Korea3.

I've heard that once you leave Help Island, you can't come back. However, I am definitely not ready for the mainland, and I didn't leave Help Island voluntarily. Is there anyway that I can be relocated to Help Island?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Taurus Woodin

I don't think so, Taurus, but it's been so long since I was a newbie, I'm not an expert on Help Island. If you can't go back to Help Island, try doing a search for New Citizen or The Shelter. Both of those places are excellent starting points for new residents. :)

Hiya Taurus,

Unfortunatly you can't return to Help Island. HOWEVER fortunatly there are places you can go for help and ways of contacting people for help. Your best bet, when you login, is to look in your help Menu for 'live help' and ask if they can get hold of a Mentor for you to help you. Mentor's (some of whom are also Live Helpers) are Residents who enjoy helping people, especially our newer residents, find their feet in SecondLife.

There are also areas similar to Help Island on the main land, Siobhan has pointed you to two of them.

Hope this helps.

Kat.

Unfortunately you can't return to Help Island, but you can try Orientation Island Public. It's te Help Island of old and well, it does have some of the skills required to enter SL.

Actually, if you're that new, ask a Liaison if they can get you back. Not all can do it, and I can't remember the names of the ones who can... but ask a Linden, or in Live Help.

Also, there are some tutorial posts in Waterhead near the Linden Lab office which can help, and of course the Ivory Tower in Natoma. You might also just try a teleport home ctrl-shift-H. If you didn't leave HI via the conventional method, it may not have reset you.

I had that happen this weekend to a new alt I was creating, Ceera Kitsune. She was still on the help island, and the sim apparently crashed. When I logged in again as Ceera Kitsune, she was in the Korea sim! Fortunately, in my case, it didn't really matter. I had pretty much done all that I was planning to in the Help Island. But that must have been VERY disorienting for a bunch of other real newbies who suddenly found themselves in random positions on the main grid!

Dammit, I opened this thread thinking Taurus was fessing up to being banned from H.I.

Then I find out he's a nice, respectable, serious SL resident who's been victimized by the crappy asset servers like the rest of us.

Dammit, now what do I do with all this venom? :)

Unfortunately, Orientation Island public is just that - an orientation island. it's not a Help Island, there's no mentors there, no real help for learning building, or any of the things you'll actually find at Help Island.

Heck, I did the same thing when I started. The very first steps I took were to grab the first notecard, take a look at the map... and then double-click on an info booth icon to see what it would show me.

Luckily I knew others in-world who got me through the box-wearing stages.

Taurus- It's best to just look around and see if you can get someone to help you out and get started. If you just want to RTFM, go to Search, and look for Help Island (it's a mature area, make sure that option is checked!)
I think there's also a place called The Shelter, with beginner info and some freebie item collections.

Hiya Taurus! I remember actually meeting you on Help Island 2.

Sorry to hear about the displacement- If it's any consolation, I've had to travel to the Korea sims before to meet some of my students who have accidently been teleported there immediately following a Help Island crash. As Siobhan mentioned, some Lindens can teleport residents back to Help Island, while some can not- I've had about 50/50 luck when it comes to this. Hope to see you back on Help Island though, as you were rather well-mannered and were quite enthusastic about learning.

Why don't they let people go back there?

I think it is to avoid new rezzies being an easy target for griefers though there may be other reasons.

*sniff* never even knew there was a Help Island. After orientation island I learned everything else in the Morris Sandbox.

Pack it up in a freebie box with a couple of nukes, a machine gun, a fighterjet, maybe even some sort of large gas-masked heavily armoured blackish grey avatar, of course.

Thanks for all the advice...and venom :-) I've finally gotten home and am currently in Live Help awaiting a resolution. We'll see how it goes...

[UPDATE] The rep said that the best they could do was teleport me to an orientation station, because I am "a bit old." Oh well, it's their world...

Dearly Darling,

The folks at Live Help are always there for questions! Every one I've met through there is nice. The Shelter is also fantastic. The Teazer Learning Programs are also top notch...and all three are free. If there is anything I can help you with feel free to holler.

And by the bye, welcome!

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Mmm shame your support wasn't as good as you'd hoped. I'm a live helper and they DEFINATLY could have contacted a Mentor for you (Live Helpers dont allways have newbie help landmarks etc. as Mentors are there to help new people - some Live Helpers do act as Mentors tho or are indeed both).

This thread has worried me a bit. I am very new and have just been logged off help island because of a server going down. I am rather reticent to connect again.

Could it be that one only gets relocated if one tries to reconnect while the server is still down? I am inclined to wait a bit - I think Korea might be too disorientating .. hope it is not North Korea!

That is exactly how I left Orientation Island.... Don't worry.. You will soon find your mainland bearings. Lots of people are happy to help. :)

Thanks for the reassurance whim.

I must say so far the SL experience has been very friendly and positive. Hope there aren't too many rough boys on the mainland.
