So I'm launching a new PSA. Visit Sim Neighbours. Sim Neighbours is a site to look up which Sim your Sim is sharing a Server with. You can read more about Sims/Servers/CPUs in this forum post by Lee Linden. If your Sim is not in the database, you can get a Registrator-Tron. here. To use Registrator-Tron is very simple. You wear it, and touch to submit a Sim [When you are in a Sim]. That's it, thats all. As a public service, you can go around registering Sims if you happen to be an explorer. Currently, I have visited ALL the Old Mainland Continent - There is still most of the private islands, as well as the North Continent left to register. -Max.

Do I have to be in SL for this website to display who my neighbors are? Maybe I am misinterpreting the intent of the site(?).

If I enter a sim name and the neighbor is not registered, do I get a response that there is no neighbor?

Chance - yah - it's about sims on the same server as your sim - follow link to Lee's post.
Gabe - if you have no neighbours, and put sim name on site, it will just show your sim.
Thanks to Torley, we now have one known complete set - All four neighbours mapped for Sandbox Newcomb.

Something like this is particularly catchy because I think of how it's collaborative and communal. All these pieces of the puzzle (different sims) and assembling them to come up with the whole database. I was curious about this because to my knowledge, there hasn't been a list available like this to Resis before. Plus, it helps with the whole curiosity aspect--and you may even get some extra exploration done.

Wow, very cool! Can you tell us a bit more about how sims are sensed?
It seems that the mainland sims get mostly found; is it more necessary for the island sims to register? Would a full list of sim names be helpful to you? I might have some stuff in the SLBoutique database that could help.
Regards,
-Tim

I started doing a few on the Northern continent. I think I got 6 so far. Philudoria is the one I am in and it shares with one other. Unless I just haven't made it there yet.

Flip - The sim info is in every email header. So, to kickstart the initial DB, I teeped through the old mainland continent. If your DB has the Sim info, that could be useful, otherwise the full list won't help to much. Thanks for the offer.
Petgirl - I didn't get around to doing any others, so that's why Anshe's sims aren't in there yet. You can grab a device and add them.

After the grid comes back up doesn't all the data collected thus far become useless?

Usu - Maybe. From what i recall, they don't change around hardwareso much anymore. I suspect I will find out, eh? Also, wildcard searching now enabled, so you can type Sandbox and get a list of sandbox sims in the system, for example.

From: Torley Linden Something like this is particularly catchy because I think of how it's collaborative and communal. That's very special talk for the cute little Lindens to bat around during their coffee breaks. From: someone I was curious about this because to my knowledge, there hasn't been a list available like this to Resis before. The question is why the hell not? How hard is it to publish a simple fracin' query, listing all the sims, to an official web page? How many more minutes would it take to add a sort field to reissue the query and reprint the updated page to the browser? LL withholding this kind of very simply published data, forcing us to collaboratively build clunky communal solutions just to feed the social experimentation mill, make my oh never mind, I suppose everybody's stopped reading this post already. I should try to fit in a little better. It's too bad Max's hair! code can't at least tap an RSS feed of the boobies! query so that his system can skirts! access a full, coffee! current data set.

I doubt its an issue of withholding data. More likely, they have better things to do. And I'm still reading this thread And yes, it would be nice if my hair could query boobies.

I added my sim, and after searching it I got this:
Your Sim Neighbours Are Clara [show] [goto] Brauni [show] [goto]
Clara is in the southern continent, I'm in the north?
Strange.

NO, thats exactly how it's supposed to work This is about finding who else is on the same server as you. Think of it like a sister sim - not connected by SL geography, but by RL placement. See the link to Lee's post for more info on sim/servers/cpus

Ok, so you can now re-register any sim, so if a number has changed, the registrator-tron will update it. This mans the mainland probably needs some redoing. BUsy adding a Who submitted field, so we can have leaderboards

Problem with wildcard searching?
02-13-2006 11:31
Great project, but noticed there may be a problem with the current wildcard searching.
When I do a search for the Io sim, the search returns all of the sims with "io" in any sim's name. It then prompts for my selection from the list. Upon making the selection, "Io," the site then loops back to another wildcard search which gives the same multiple results and another request for my selection.
Not sure how many sim names this might affect since Io is fairly unique, but thought you might want to know.

Bradder - Yes - thanks - that is exactly what I am hoping. Thans for the report. I will look at that toute suite. I knew I should have slapped the word BETA somewhere onto the logo. [EDIT - This issue is now resolved ] All- I updated right now so we know who submitted what - there will be a leaderboard at some time in the future. The mainland is be fair game as well, since some of the numbers have changed. So, if you have an old Registrator-Tron, drop by and get the new one and have your contribution be counted! Though always appreciated. I have also added Auto-Update to the device, so you shouldn't have to go get a new one anymore - it will let you know when/if there has been an update, and deliver a new one to you. Sorry for the inconvenience to those who have an old one.
