If you make content and offer it for sale, that's content, regardless of 'quality'. _____________________

My business is much more a service than a content.
I really either save people time - or allow them to look a certain way they havent worked out how to yet. *************** I dont think 90% of content is crap. Maybe 50 or 60% some designers dont do so well at first but get better with time. Now the really amazing things out there well that number is prolly less than 10% - But there a lot of items that are in the useful and nice catagory that arent amoung the best but certainly not crap. |

How many people upload stuff into SL?
"" Rez stuff, even if it's a plywood box? "" Script? "" Chat? I'd say all of that qualifies as content, even if it's not out for public display. _____________________

My av has been needing a mesh shirt, for like, forever. Snaps to this suggestion! Someone get this nice man a shirt, please. Stat! I really miss Pandastrong. me tooOn a more serious note: I think the slide entitled "Costomer Segments" is particularly interesting. ~PC Gamers 10 Million 90% of in-game content for The Sims user-created ~Digital Artists, Technosavvy Creatives 1+ Million 120,000 copies of Poser 3D pirated (oh, um, sold) in the last three years. ~Virtual Self-Expressionists 10 Million Use the internet to express themselves and find communities Now unless these are just 254 people's alts and assuming that the numbers represent reality on *this* planet, it appears that LL is betting on the strength and imagination of content creators. All three groups, I think, create content. N.B. It says, "expressionists" not "exhibitionists" ![]() _____________________

I have to chime in on this and say we must start seriously considering event producers and live Musicians as content creators. As of right now the majority of the population takes them for grantedand things there services are not worth a good hot damn.
But we work as hard as the builders and scripters and if you think truly putting together a quality entertainment product is easy I defy to try it. Tomrrow I am doing Dublin Rocks a 14 hour event with 12 live acts U2 in Sl and fireworks. 14 hours of serious entertainment product, and a hell of a lot of people sweated blood to to make it rock tomorrow and yet, I have seen residents spend 200L on abadly made piece of clothing or what have you, and refuse to pay for an event like this. - which btw is free Until we start classifying this as content we are the underappreciated bastard step children of Sl _____________________

Live performers and smart well run events certainly add something to the SL experience. And most certainly we should be willing to pay for such an event. =) |

I see the whole SL world as content, LL created the platform all the rest of world is content, so that´s a pretty lot of content here and there, spoken language, prims, anims, scripts, events, games, etcetera.
There is a good lot of creators all around, I think its more than 3% and classifing bad or good content creators wont help, everyone has a different taste for good or bad stuff. For me, I like what a friend mine says "Theres bad taste and theres my taste, that´s all". I think that woldnt be a very accurate way to measure things ![]() |

Sounds like you are describing Services. It would certainly interesting to know the number of users providing services and content. events are services? See this is the type of differentiation I'm talkin about. If I make a car and sell it - its content If I throw a fun event - its content If I run naked through Waterhead - its content Content can be broken down into services, events, crimes against virgin eyes etc, not the other way around. eg: My fun tour service is content etc I'ma hafta retire from this forum section again sheesh! *wanders off grumbling* PS: Pol in a half shirt..... MMMMMmm *faints*_____________________

MMMMMmm *faints*Well yes I would agree with all that. However if that is your definition of "content" then there may be a use (or not) to further define subcategories of "content creation" in case there is an interest in knowing what % of content creators are creating prim based objects vs. hosting events, vs. streaking the welcome area. One could argue that 100% of SL residents are content creators. Who am I to say that sitting on the beach and admiring the sunset isn't content creation? However when the original "5%" quote was coined, I suspect they had some very specific kinds of activities in mind, even if we call it something more specific than the general "conten creation" term. _____________________
