Ok, so Torley basicly you are asking us to look at the event listings and abuse report the bad ones right? (Because I just did that for 2 24 hrs yard sales, and I can keep doing that each time I log on, look for 2-3 to abuse report)

So exactly how do we 'report a bad event listing'?

So exactly how do we 'report a bad event listing'? Lewis Lewis, Torley said in her post: You can help us help you so that your actual events, which you put a lot of passion into for the enjoyment of all involved, aren't drowned! See a listing which is not an event and thus doesn't meet the Event Posting Rules? From inworld, please use the HELP menu ---> REPORT ABUSE with all the juicy details, including who posted it, the date, time, and description of the NON-event, and also important: if this has been going on awhile and hasn't stopped. |

Since spamming the events calendar continues to be an ongoing problem and the community isn't willing to follow the very explicit Events Posting Rules, we have no choice but to consider charging for listings and further enforcing disciplinary action. If you would like to see event postings remain free I would suggest reminding your fellow Residents that the calendar is not meant as a way to avoid paying for Classified ad space. Issuing warnings to the forum cheering section won't actually achieve much. If you would like to communicate this to residents, using the forums is a poor way of doing so. Only about 5 to 10% of SL residents read the forums. If this is a real problem, why not use the text displayed during logins to make people aware of the rule and LL's decision to actually enforce them. As I said in a previous post, I think this is a rule that is not needed, that was instituted without real discussion (two hours and fifteen posts from suggestion to implementation), is randomly enforced, and only serves to distract from the real problem--the lack of effective filtering tools for the Events (and other Find) listings. What really annoys me is the implication that LL will start charging for event postings. If LL's desire is to control the number of commercial posts, this will be counterproductive. Ask yourself this: who is more likely to be able--and willing--to pay for event postings? A commercial event making a significant number of L$, or a non-commercial event that is running at a loss, or barely breaking even? |

Carl each time you post a event you agree to the rules that they are finally enforcing, those rules have been there for as long as I have been on SL if not longer.

Carl each time you post a event you agree to the rules that they are finally enforcing, those rules have been there for as long as I have been on SL if not longer. All the events I post are hosted events with a start and end time--events that follow the letter and spirit of the rules as currently written. Feel free to search on my name for events I post. Just because I think a rule is nonsensical, doesn't mean I am violating it--or have ever violated it. |

Issuing warnings to the forum cheering section won't actually achieve much. If you would like to communicate this to residents, using the forums is a poor way of doing so. Only about 5 to 10% of SL residents read the forums. This issue has been running for months, and I have had several conversations with a Linden (whose name escapes me now) about ways to improve the functionality of the events calendar, and better ways to police it - including a 'notify' button. It's good to have been involved - albeit in a small way - in improving the experience for the 99% of people who can follow some simple rules, because of the 1% who can't. Lewis _____________________

Thank you, Lindens! I don't know how much good this will do in the end, but I hope it helps.
Some of the event spammers (i.e., groups I've seen spam the listings before) seem to be wising up to this already, and now have disclaimers in their postings about how no, really, it's a real event. "This is an hour long event only," my butt. Edit: Bah, I thought this was the similar thread in the Events forum. Oh, well. _____________________
