you do realize that would be an easy way to copy no copy objects right?

I pick up everything from the sim, pick picture B, roll back sim, everything in my inventory and all new stuff on the sim.. not going to happen.
Interesting. It raises the question of why they do rollbacks at all - do they journal everything that's been rezzed? If they do, it would simply be a matter of reversing it all. I don't really know.

I really dont know how they do it, but I know they dont it for every request nor do they take it lightly when they do do it...

It might yank everything that's rezzed in the snapshot right back out of your inventory as if you were rezzing it manually.

Though I'm sure that that could be exploited too. And I'd wonder what would happen if you had transferred the object to someone else in the meantime.

Or it could ignore no-copy objects.

I think it would be a good idea to offer automated rollbacks. Would be a lot of work, but save a lot MORE work down the line.
How about letting us download a (possibly encrypted) image of a parcel and any full perm (at least) prims on it, so anyone can handle their own backup and restore?

You still have the same inventory issues with no-copy items - you could put away some items that are in the backup, then restore them and have additional copies.

What if a User-initiated sim-restore only restored copyable items? (and discarded no-copy items).

Granted, that would make the decision by a sim-owner to actually perform a rollback a tough one... but shouldn't it be something that's not done frivolously anyway?

Just a thought :)
