I am in the same camp as Taco on this one, I don't see this as a service best provided by LL. It just seems like a waste of resources and infringement into user's businesses.

As I stated from the beginning, LL should either buy adspace on user-owned stations or offer them as PSAs. Post them on the website for download so they can go into rotation on other stations. NO ONE is going to hang around infohubs to wait for a "Linden Announcement". Doesn't LL want as many people as possible to hear these things? If so, does a closed radio format only available on land that is not visited by the vast majority of the SL population seem like a good idea and a good use of LL time and resources?
Sure, have resident-created music playing on Linden Land... great idea. But to have the announcements and official Linden stuff ONLY on that channel -- isn't that ass-backward of the Infonet terminals? With those, you chose a no-bid user-created network to be the sole source of "official Linden news" in-world. Now with the radio, it's a Linden-created outlet as the only source of "official Linden" stuff. Only this time, you get to look like the good guys because you'll play a few songs created by users. Make up your mind -- either let the world you created run free without the Lindens constantly meddling with their own services and "features" that are stolen right from their own residents, or get it over with and take control of everything, eliminate the L$ and start charging US$ for everything. _____________________

I don't understand how Linden Radio WON'T compete with existing radio stations. Every new SL-related stream that becomes available for parcel owners creates one more opportunity for them to dial away from their current station pick. That's competition!
The difference is, the new stream on the scene comes pre-packaged with Linden clout (don't pretend it doesn't exist!) Resident talent will naturally gravitate towards Linden Radio for legitimacy and listener base. _____________________

Hey All

I'm gonna clarify a few small things to try and address your concerns. There are no development resources being redirected to Radio Linden. You wouldn't want me programming;
so I'm working on Radio Linden. Radio Linden is a few remote Lindens banding together to both attract people to the infohubs but to also provide a variety of different types of resident music AND to provide an extra resource for announcements and SL based learnings. Help Radio tips will be played, Resident and Linden made music with radio shows to come. We'll build as we go. Thinking we may not have enough content is underestimating the resident's of Second Life. Some of us involved have a history with these types of projects and are well aware that we need to provide a vast variety of content in more than one genre. As far as competition, we are making no profit off of Radio Linden. We won't have resident commercials. Our stream is not intended to draw attention from other Radio stations, it's intended to help spread the music of Second Life residents, which can only have a positive effect. Once their songs and names out there, it would be ideal for other stations to contact them about playing their music. Furthermore, Radio Linden will not be playing music that is distributed by ASCAP or any other royalty holding company. We won't be able to play pop hits, and that's what the majority of listeners flock too. If anyone has any reservations about the station, feel free to IM me in world, I don't mind chatting about it. Mostly , it's meant to be fun, informative, expressive for resident's and Linden alike, and we are very much aware we shouldn't compete, and won't. As far as content: Here's a sample of a band we'll be playing. Please have a listen and let us know what you think. http://www.mp3-host.com/uploads/a454a.eb90a.mp3 Adam _____________________

I'm not questioning the virtue of Linden Radio. I guess for the most part I approve.
I just think it's silly to say it won't be competing with existing stations. It WILL. The level of damage caused to the existing SL Radio market will be proportional to Linden Radio's success at capturing market share. This is true even if it's not Linden Radio's intention to capture market share. _____________________
