Ok here is my estimate....
edit: note this is totally wrong by a power of 10 due to mixing of square areas.
Around 1600 sims?
Each sim 256mx256m = 65 536 sq. meters
~1600 meters in a mile
Wisconsin = 65,503 square miles
so.....
1600 sims * 65,536 sq meters / 1600 meters in a mile = 65 536 square miles.
Put another way... each sim = ~41sq. miles
USA = 3,537,441 square miles (or 86,279 sims)
Moon = 23 sq. miles (or 560,975 sims)
Earth = 316million sq. miles (or 7,707,317 sims)
I'm sure some of it's wrong.. will correct errors as I find them.
Now.. how much of it will be flat.. and how much will be 24/7 tringo?

1600 * 65536 = 104857600 square metres. 1000*1000m=1,000,000 square metres, or 1 sq km So, we have about 104 sq kms of SIMs. It's about as big as Anguilla From: someone Colonized by English settlers from Saint Kitts in 1650, Anguilla was administered by Great Britain until the early 19th century, when the island - against the wishes of the inhabitants - was incorporated into a single British dependency, along with Saint Kitts and Nevis. Several attempts at separation failed. In 1971, two years after a revolt, Anguilla was finally allowed to secede; this arrangement was formally recognized in 1980, with Anguilla becoming a separate British dependency.

Another way of looking at it is we have 1600 sims, that's about 40sims across and 40 sims down.
A sim is 255m across the top and 255m down the side.
So,
40 sims*255m=10200m, or 10km across the top (roughly) and 10km down.
10 km x 10 km is 100 sq km.

well so much for my math skills. so ok let me try this again in miles. 1600 sims. square root is 40 so a block of 40x40 sims this would make an area that is 10240m on each side or 6.4 miles. (phew I was off) So the 41sq miles I come up with was the grid not each sim! DOH! 2/3 the size of washington D.C

It's odd that we call some parts of the map "continents" when, in the real world, they are tiny.

HP I think Blake said it best: "To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour. A Robin Red breast in a Cage Puts all Heaven in a Rage..." There's more, but I'll spare you
