I think I do have a sense of perspective. I think its wrong to make third class citizens and I think these people will be treated badly.

I agree -

LL should either verify or not verify - Not play games, and give residents ammunition to discrimiate against people.

If they feel their non verification policy is legitimate? then why this step?

What is the big deal with the "unverified" characters?

I pay Premium on two accounts. If I want a free Alt, what's the problem? This char has a Basic Account. I can't own land, but I can still create and contribute to SL society. When I made this char, an Alt, I had to input my NAME and BIRTHDAY which, if SL has a halfway decent system, can be entered into the Name field and cross-matched to any characters I have in game whether they are on Premium or Basic accounts. If I cause a major problem, All of my accounts can be easily found and eliminated, if that is what LL wants to do with them.
If you have Alts that are on Basic accounts and which can be easily cross-referenced with your main account/s, why penalize Those accounts? You don't need my Credit Card or PayPal info to cross-reference. Use my name or IP addy or both.

If a person chooses to make a Basic account simply to grief the residents, they should be reported when they create a disturbance. LL should then investigate to make sure that they didn't just bump into someone because they were lagged out and kept moving out of control. It happens.
If they are seriously hindering residents from participation in activities, LL should close their account and log their IP addy as a banned IP address. To get another account, they would have to use another computer--another IP addy. Eventually, they will run out of computers.

With tagging the Unverified accounts (they are all Basic accounts, since you pay for Premium) and isolating them to an area where they can't interact with Premium residents, you lose rents from renting to some of the Basic account residents. If you hold a Premium account and can purchase land, why rent? I have rented out an apartment to someone with a Basic account. Moving them all to their own zone can restrict another avenue of income for me.

IMO, perhaps some of the current paying, registered residents should be dressed in rags and relocated to an ugly, smelly, industrial, fish manure producing area. Just becaue someone paid for a Premium account doesn't mean that they have a squeaky-clean attitude toward other residents. Intolerance is not very becoming, especially when it is not substantiated with irrefutable facts that "this Entire class of citizen is a problem."
There IS recourse for problem accounts. Don't label all unverified accounts as a problem. It isn't necessary. Deal with problem accounts as problems, and leave those who don't cause problems alone instead of throwing negative labels at them. After all, fostering good will and tolerance is part of what SL is all about. Group discrimination is looked down upon in all other areas of SL. You can't justify discrimination against all unverified account holders, either, and maintain the standards of conduct of a responsible SL citizen.

If we aren't going to discriminate against unverified accounts, whats the use of pointing out that they are unverified?

Let's face it.. The unverified are lesser beings..

I have to agree katykiwi, probably because I have the same dry sense of humor and tend to use it toward the ridiculous. I agree with a lot of posts in this thread lol. I do agree also with Ebay lol, and it is funny that you found that similarity. Makes you wonder if we are 'selling' ourselves in some way with the description of 'unverified, verified, the good, the bad, and the ugly...' I know I would definitely feel like I was in a caste system of some sort. If I were a new member entering into these shenanigans. Even though it is of our own choosing to whatever account we are paying for...this is our decision...human nature simply carries all potential to put people in a group. Even if it is not our intention.

So...is this new system force-feeding us to choose who we are, if we are selling our 'good name' by whatever citizen we are? Maybe - but I guess you have to consider other things such as...does a person belonging to a certain group, with a certain title, put a stigma on themselves also.

Even though I am a cynic, self-admitted, I still think most people know the basics of right/wrong, fair/unfair, etc... With saying this, anything is possible with whatever new rules and regs are put on accounts. I just hope for the best, it is all we really can do if we do want to continue the game. Is it really that scary to place our 'fun' on the citizens of SL and who we play with? We already do it everyday, those of us who have been in the game for awhile anyway. But I do wonder what the 'new' generation of SL'ers will think of this, how it affects their 'fun'. I would really like to hear a point of view from some of you out there :)

PS...lol funny about the rl pic thing, although with meeting some of my SL friends irl, mine is real - does that mean I am Verified First Life??? :p

This post was funny!!

I dont think there is a problem to include the words verified/unverified in a profile, after all we see that in Ebay and other sites. (hmmm...wonder if this verification inspiration came from the ebay guy...)

But, the indication that the account was successfully used and billed is unneccessary. It does feel like a scarlet letter style system of status.

What about the letter "D" in the profile for DEADBEAT? :D
