"emergency break" for new accounts, a new tool.

Simply put, any user older that 3 months may target a account younger than a month and type a command that disables their ability to use, control or direct scripts. Not only this but the command automatically returns all their objects ressed in the last hour. Their "No outside scripts, no scripts no objects" flag lasts for an hour or sooner if the person who typed the command repeals the punishment.

Yes, it could be a pain if some newb somehow figured out how to rent and buy furniture had it all returned to him.... but otherwise lets be honest, you see 5tr0k3d xai the pain in the butt alt pulling out C4 and sneaking up behind another avatar *bam* his fun is ruined.

This tool allows older, wiser resident a better defense against grief... oh yes this hash number stuff is full proof!

One only needs to put in an old soundcard or enable their onboard lan to change their number. Yes... you only have so many spare computer parts around... but even then you can spoof hash's with the right dongle kit... as simple as an open USB and a laptop or spoofing a virtual drive.

(people just found abusing newbies will have the power removed from them)

The status is not perminent, and they grow past being able to be flagged. It is an emergancy tool that can be taken away from people abusing it...

its not draconian and not applied to newbies by default.... but basically, do you expect the older members of SL would just use this on someone randomly to be mean? Honestly is the game that cold?

The only way this could be abused is if it was used on someone who wasn't griefing or about to, in such cases the user would loose the power to use the emergancy break.

The downside is all the jackasses in SecondLife are going to fly around suckerpunching newbies just for jollies. Your suggestion is poorly thought out, at best.

Let me spell it out for you.

Griefer wants to cause lots of problems. Every day for the next 3 months he makes 10 new alts. Three months from now he starts to use these alts not only to grief the old accounts with immunity, but now he has a really cool, built in way to grief all the newbies!

And all he has to do is keep making 10 new alts a day to replace the ones he loses each day and he has an endless supply of grief bots.

You really should think about these things at least a little bit before you post them.

I'm all for well, thought out posts though... I know its a little too much to ask around these parts.

Those suckerpunching jerks are easily delt with, lets up the requirements for us and the results of misuse.

Barring a newbie from scripts/ressing for an hour that isn't doing anything wrong results in a three day suspension... this means the power will not be used lightly.

Using it requires you see the newbie, or the newbies objects doing the following.

1.) unwelcomed (ToS breaking) assult.
2.) orbitting mass numbers
3.) grid attacks (grey goo)

any use outside of these above offenses results in that three day suspention and lost of the power.

This is a very good suggestion for Second Life, because obviously everyone over 3 months old is a benevolent saint, while everyone under 3 months old is a terrible child begging for punishment.

(Hint: your age in SL doesn't mean a thing, sweetcheeks.)

Easily delt with, if we're banning by hardware hashes all of those accounts using the same hash will become locked out. Even if he does all the spoofing I spoke of it'd take out many of his alternate accounts and he would have to waste time and money buying and switching out computer parts.

Alternatively, I guess I can see a griefer waiting three months just to be a pain (you know, despite the fact that most of them want instant gratification unless they got banned and have a long standing grudge ) so lets up it to six months.

Is six months a fair buffer, given the new banning methods?

1. You're assuming that length of time in SL equals "wiser". That's not necessarily true.

2. Like the other "dumb post of the day" it puts power into the hands of users which could easily be abused.

Rather than go to the trouble of actually giving users another tool to grief with, why not just give us the ability to be immune to push scripts from other players? That's what Robin mentioned in her blog, and if we actually get it, it will be a very effective defense against these morons.

Why not just let the newbie defend themselves to begin with instead of having to go through this Rube Goldberg machine of idiocy?
